Brady's Bucs Contract - Next Year?

This might belong in a cap discussion, but I was just wondering... I read that Brady is on track for an additional $2.5 Million in bonuses if he wins the Super Bowl (all that is left is $500K is for a Super Bowl win). I was laughing to myself as I thought, do these bonuses now convert to LTBE for 2021 instead of NLTBE? If they do become LTBE, how crazy would it be that a "Winning the Super Bowl" bonus becomes "Likely to be earned"?

I don't know for a fact, but I would guess no. It's not all that uncommon for NLTBE clauses to be included, such as Super Bowl, All Pro, x number of wins, etc.

No. I think that if Brady's next deal with the Bucs is, as you said, "will be similar to the one the Patriots should have given him two seasons ago", then they are nuts.

The Bucs have nothing to lose but money... Brady gives them hope, helps them sell corporate sponsors on those ridiculously expensive boxes, puts fannies in the seats, attracts free agents willing to take less for a shot at a ring etc... all the things he did here...

It is the Post, so take it with a grain of salt, but things aren't as rosy as you think in TB: Buccaneers can’t risk offending Tom Brady amid contract dilemmas

Remember, the salary cap is going down to $175 Million and Brady's cap number is going up to $27.5 Million because he won the Super Bowl. So Brady is 15.7% of their cap next year. That's a big percentage.

A one-year extension through 2022 should be sufficient. Then they can kick some of the 2021 hit into 2022 when the cap will go up more. This is what a lot of teams will do, but it makes even more sense when you have a Super Bowl contender that should be all-in for the next few years. Also a lot of other contending teams don’t have as much flexibility because they’ve already been restricting and kicking cap hits down the road.

I don’t see a lot of risk there.

They should roll some of his cap hit into dead money into future years, bring more weapons in / retain who they can, and win it again next year. Dead cap for future years after Brady retires is irrelevent. They can have a year off to absorb it.

They’re going to be a wrecking ball in 2021 and probably 2022. There will be a redux of The Brady 6 where a bunch of teams take massive amounts of criticism for not aggressively courting him last year, and people will laugh in retrospect about Philip Rivers, Mitch Trubisky, Jimmy Garoppolo, Drew Brees, etc.

They’re winning multiple titles. This is one the best positioned Super Bowl winning teams in recent memory. And I usually say to pump the brakes.

History repeats itself with teams passing on Brady and then regretting it and offering embarrassing rationalizations.

Brady is the biggest bargain in the NFL for non-rookie contract. $25M while other elite QBs are getting $40M.
