Curran: Patriots will be "extremely and uncharacteristically" aggressive in Free Agency

Man, I don't like it at all but I understand I guess. Forget the rebuild, just try to win now which goes against everything the Pats have been about for the last 20 years. The Patriot Way is officially dead it seems. The worst part is if they trade the draft picks for a loser like Stafford, it just pushes the rebuild down the road which means mediocrity for a long time.

Maybe this is the rebuild though. This idea you have to tear everything down and be a losing team for years isn't necessarily how every team rebuilds.

Chiefs won with Alex Smith while they drafted Mahomes. Saints basically built a top defense in one draft.

Maybe bill feels with a solid drafts. Some good free agent signings and a veteran QB he can win.

The Patriots have to be aggressive just to fill out their 53 man roster. In addition
to weaknesses at many spots, they have more than 20 additional free agents
in March to replace.
At first glance that number of free agents appears to be high. In reality about 18-20 is the norm for every team, every year.

On top of that the Pats are at the upper end of the scale in terms of available salary cap dollars. Many teams will be shedding players off their rosters in order to get under the cap, rather than bidding on free agents.

Belichick views himself in the vein of Tom Landry and Paul Brown: the "system" and "scheme" is more valuable than the player.

He thinks every player is expendable. Plus, he has an ego. He probably looks at last year and thinks they simply lost a few close games.

So I doubt they improve next year.

They did lose a bunch of close games with minimal to no talent.

So if you upgrade at Wide receiver, have a tight end who can catch a ball. And even marginal upgrade at QB (someone who can throw more than 8 tds) you are a playoff team with belicheck. No doubt in my mind.

We went 7-9 with THIS roster. Teams with better talent like the falcons or Texans had worse records

Every great player or coach in this game has an ego.

Bill isn't stupid, he knows there is work to be done. Super Bowl or not, it's not unreasonable to expect to see improvement in 2021.

Everyone on 98.5 is killing Bill for going to the Bahamas instead of going to the Senior Bowl.

let me guess, these are the same hacks that have been whining that bill can't evaluate talent, too?

Maybe Bill realizes he can coach talent but not identify it like he used to.
Let the scouts do their job.
I’m completely good with that.
I think Harry, Johnson, Price,Jackson,Dobson. he can only take so much ironically the one wr we drafted he should of kept recently was Braxton Berrios.
Who here wouldn’t trade Harry or Meyers for Berrios straight up?

Key here was defense first. And McDaniels wasn't involved then.

.
Yeah, since he already have Superbowl MVP Tom frickin Brady on offense. Who had also led the league in TDs in 2002. So he could focus on Defense first in 2003

Pretty bad optics especially with no combine this year.
That is what they were saying. You're already limited with no combine and in person workouts that you would think Bill would want to be there. They had a whole song about Bill skipping it to the tune of "Under the Sea" lol

They have personel there still, Bill doesnt need to physically be there, what a non story

Considering how bad bills judgement has been lately with his "picks" is it a bad idea to let the scouts and other front office guys pick players?

Last week the media is crucifying bill for not listening to the scouts. This week they are crucifying him for having the scouts go look at players for him.

Absolutely not.
Berrios can get separation the Jets game I’ve seen he’s doing his best Wes well welker impersonations getting open in the slot and is used on screens. As well as special teams

Awesome stay in the bahamas Bill!!! let anyone else draft

Meyers has more upside. I would take my chances on Berrios being cut.
