I think we can say Edelman does not have to have Brady

It certainly didn't hurt Jules to have Brady throwing to him. Unfortunately, at this stage of their careers, I don't feel confident that either one will make it through a whole season.

no, but he shouldn't have to be relied upon to be their deep threat. Belichick needed to get this team a legit outside WR. Cam could be chucking it up on broken plays...it's a glaring need..and frankly has been for years.

He’s our safety valve, so de are spamming the hell out of him. He’s going to wind up like Welker if we aren’t careful. He should not need to do this. It’s been an issue for awhile

I really hate the argument or debate that his guy made that guy or this coach made that player or vice versa. It is silly. Edelman had made himself into a great player. Brady played a role in his development, even he says that but his success is his hard work and grit.

Both. He made a jump, but I think at the end of the last year when Harry showed signs of improvement Brady already judged Sanu and Edelman as superior options so Harry had to be the most obviously open read to get a chance

Think how many games he has played extra with all the playoffs. 2 seasons worth. Actually missing 2017 may end up extending his career - gave his body a rest. I think Jules enjoys looking like a wreck though. You think he is dead, then BAM

Harry is actually averaging fewer yards per reception this year than last year...

8.5 vs 8.8 ypr is statistically insignificant. Reception per game, 6.5 versus 1.7..................

Uh...

It may have made a difference if Harry was actually not on IR for 10 games.

Also, Dorsett got a lot of snaps over Harry when he did join the team late in the season.

Harry showed great toughness when he was walloped, and that last play at the goal line was clutch, but I mostly saw him run the type of routes Cordarelle Patterson used to run for us.

Jury is still out. Would like to see him become that intermediate threat we need.

I am pleasantly surprised by Byrd. He is becoming our Malcolm Mitchell guy.

EDIT: just checked Harry's stats with Brady. In the last few games he was targeted 7 times each game, but they certainly weren't connecting. 14 targets, 5 receptions. So, as the season progressed, I wouldn't say Harry was frozen out as much as the two of them were certainly not on the same page.

There is so little to go on. We shouldn't make any judgement about Harry's development yet.

Certainly not in relation to last year when he was on IR for 10 games and then played behind other receivers (even Dorsett started over him).

The whole Brady/Harry vs. future Harry debate is useless when you realize he was a rookie who was on IR.

No one knows what the future holds for him. Personally I wouldn't be at all surprised if he became a solid starter for us. Unfortunately, I can't say I would be surprised if he didn't become anything more than, say, a Donte Stallworth.

If it was so easy for Brady to make a guy we'd have a lot more options at WR than we did. I think Cam is showing that we have to rely on the same people that Brady relied on. We don't really have options.

Maybe it's true that Brady made some careers that never went anywhere without him, but those players were not long for New England nor were they world beaters when they were here (Gaffney, Caldwell, Stallworth, several others). Edelman has shown he can do it anywhere.

But he is 34 years old. That's as old as 43 QB years at WR.
