So apparently Hightower’s contract tolls for 2020, which means he won’t be a FA until 2021...if he were considered at risk like Cannon, his contract would not toll...

According to @Miguel , Cannon's contract does toll as I posted above.

You said how do you set a plan in April. They didn't set a plan in April, or May, or June, or days before training camp. At some point you have to do something.
I'm not sure what "plan" can manage what's going on. The only things that would seem to make any real difference would be clinical in nature to combat the spread:
a) locker rooms with much more separation and airplane-level ventilation
b) make masks mandatory for all but the QB while playing, and maybe everyone wears a shield like some guys already do. Be looking at mask designs that allow a little easier breathing while also staying on your face through contact.
c) change all meetings with players and coaches to be via Swivel, like schools are starting to use, where whiteboard sketching can be seen by all attendees

High-risk optouts have their contract tolled like low-risk optouts do. However, unlike low-risk optouts they do get an accrued/credited season for purposes like calculating whether you are a UFA or RFA, pension stuff, etc.

I don't think this is correct. The contracts toll either way its just the amount of money they get that differs and the fact that for Hightower it is considered an advance whereas for Cannon it is actual "new money".

At least that's how I understood it.

I think you guys are right. Cannon's would toll as well. I got my info from Mike Golic and Trey Wingo

We have $24M in cap space now. Not a small amount. Free agents anyone? Remember when we had <$1M in cap space like 3 weeks ago? I am amazed @ChrisR2223 and @captain stone have not supplied a FA list yet. We need a LB and OL. Also have 76 players so 4 UDFAs binkys can be resigned to get to 80.

Chung out as well.

So these players will opt out next year as well? And the next? And the next?

This virus will never go away.

Unlikely when a vaccine comes this winter.

and Chung is out....

Good thing we got Adrian Phillips

As long as our CBs + Devin McCourty and rest of OL aren't hurt these are difficult but ultimately still replaceable losses.

My profile pick will work very well to express my current mood regarding opt outs.

I wonder how many of these guys are cut candidates who took the opt out value as a financial benefit over being released.

I’m getting nervous about the McCourteys opting out now. Ughh if they opt out does Gilly?

How much of the opt outs here in NE are a result of "I have plenty of money, we ain't gong to SB, so eff it" ??

That would be something.

Season starts and ends 4 games in. Patriots UDFAs and scabs are the only 0-4 team in the league and get the top pick in April. Seems straightforward and not too painful.
