In an attempt to bring some ultimately useless, yet possible-to-argue discussion to the table, I thought it would be interesting to analyze Dante Scarneccia.

A name that demands respect in the halls of Patriot Place, and the fans who follow. Scar is on the level of reverence that precedes the likes of Ernie Adams. Not a person you'll hear much from himself, truly someone whose efforts you can only judge on the field.

Pass defense for the Patriots was certainly a priority, and when we had a healthy O-Line, it was evident. With that was also an amazing ability to scheme out other team's best DE/LB's who were known the get to the QB. It played hand-in-hand with Brady's quick processing.

I'd love to do a little post-mortem on his ability to coach up a line that had great run blocking, though. 2018 we saw a good rushing attack towards the end of the season and into the post-season. Gronk and Allen played a huge part, as did our FB. Ridley had a number of decent seasons here, and Blount was very on/off.

Tl;Dr - what's your "grade" or analysis of Scar on the run blocking side of O-Line coaching?

Happy Easter, folks. Stay safe!

Family friend went to high school with him and saw him at their reunion. They said he’s a great guy.

Thankful to Ron Meyer for bringing Scar here with him from SMU.

Only Adams and Belichick have comparable legacies in participation in Patriots championships and history.

And the Patriots do have a lengthy, very impressive list of unselfish and phenomenal contributors on and off the field, who are largely (but nowhere near completely) recognized in the team HOF.

Some guys have a modicum of success, get a reputation, and get job security, and maybe not intentionally rest on their laurels and accept media worship. You see that all around the NFL.

Scar never sought or coveted the limelight. He's always been the real deal.

It's no coincidence that when he was interim coach, the team played better than they ever did the rest of the time. He's all about football, and he and Belichick are cut from the same mold.

Like with Brady, no one is going to fill this guy's shoes. We all just move on, as we always have to do in life.

I anticipate lots of Patriots success in the future. No matter how much it is suppressed or ignored, the efforts and sacrifices of players, coaches, staff, friends, family and fans beginning in 1959 will always be the real foundation for team greatness.

I really liked getting Antowain Smith from the Bills in '01.

I like guys who move the pile and beat the defense up. He was one of them.

Damn, I am still as upset as Scar is about the '07 line allowing so much pressure in SB XLII......

Rushing the passer was the solitary thing the Giants did well all year.

And Tom's ankle was hurt.

On a side note what's up with DeGuglielmo.
He won a Superbowl with us, the next year was the "head bob" incident in Denver, he was gone, and Scar was back. Was that because Scarneccia was available, or did they beg him to come back?
Was the Superbowl level play the residue of Dante...kinda like Barry Switzer winning a Superbowl with Jimmy Johnson's team (major F-up, Jerruh)?

My impression was he shuffled the linemen too much.

He has basically been sh!t canned from every organization he has worked for and still seems to land another job. Most recently fired from the Colts:
Colts fire offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo

Strathan has admitted many times that had the D-line not had the game of their lives, they were going to get blown out. In fact he had a meeting with Osi or Tuck or both leading up to the game and told them this.

Brady’s ankle was also a huge factor the media has ignored repeatedly after the loss. However, this is all they talked about before the game.

McDaniels has admitted Spags threw a lot of different looks at them that the Pats haven’t seen and threw them off completely. This was part of the protection problem.

Neal getting injured didn’t help.

Gugs was canned from MIA last year and was last seen interviewing with NYG

Despite what happened in SB XLII, I have never seen an OL protect the QB as much as they did for Brady in '07. Brady's jersey was clean...and he was working with a virtual semi-circle wall around him at all times....looking short for Welker...or going deep to Moss/Stallworth...it was a beauty to behold.......that was an amazing season.....and we still ALMOST pulled it off...had Brady thrown that last ball maybe 6 inches further....21-17 Pats and immortality......SMH.

I really thought he was going to catch that. Moss was probably exhausted on that play and why he couldn't jump for it or go up more aggressively for the ball.

If that ended up a TD, it would easily be the best play in football history.

We were in the opposite end zone of the direction of that play and from my angle it looked like he caught it until I saw the ball rolling on the ground.

Wow, that's heartbreaking.

Now for the Edelman catch we had the perfect angle. From where we were for that one there was like this perfect window to see in and see the ball bounce off the defenders leg and Jules double clutch the ball. We couldn't be sure it didn't hit the ground but we had as good a look as one could get from the top sections. And I felt good he caught it.

Man I love this team.

I thought this was pretty cool:

Why Scar was ahead of his time: Offensive tackle Chris Hinton, who played for the Colts (1983-89), Falcons (1990-93) and Vikings (1994-95), was flattered to hear just-retired Patriots offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia continue to say he is overdue to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Scarnecchia coached Hinton for one season in Indianapolis (1989) and Hinton gave me some insight last week.

"It wasn't so much the technique he was teaching. We're talking the late '80s and that was still during the time where 'I'm the coach, you're the player.' With Scar, it was 'we're in this thing together.' That's what I mean he was ahead of his time," said Hinton, 58, who was a Hall of Fame semifinalist in 2017 but hasn't advanced to that point since. "He knew there was more than one way to do it. So he would coach you up -- it was clear he was still the coach -- but he also wanted feedback. That was the first time in my career that I had that type of interaction with a coach.

"I think back, in particular, about the time I went to him and said, 'How about if I stay in a two-point stance if I'm uncovered?' I felt like I could do everything out of a two-point stance if I'm uncovered, if not better. He was open to it. He said, 'That makes sense, give it a try.'

"It's funny because now, offensive tackles, a lot of them are in a two-point stance 75% of the game. So that's what I remember about Scar."
