Can’t wait til draft night and we trade down

i thought he had a concussion issue. I stand corrected and thank you. I would say the blood clot issue he could recover from and be able to play.
No sweat; I also should've mentioned that perhaps it was Develin about whom you were thinking...Speaking of Andrews, it sounds as if he's cautiously optimistic about returning in 2020, depending on the results of his next tests.

we need both Andrews and Develin to be healthy next season.

This needs to be a 2010 type draft. A home run. Honestly, it may be time to bring in a full time GM. Let BB focus on coaching only.
Because a ten year track record of
10 division championships
125-35 record
1682 point differential (ie averaging win every game by more than 10)
9 afccg
5 sbs
3 championships
16 playoff wins

Is a sure sign your GM failed.
Of course this means every GM ever has failed worse

I don’t see them giving up the capital needed to move up to #1 overall. They didn’t do it when Mayfield came out two years ago and they’re going to have a lot of other needs to fill as some of the core guys are getting a bit longer in the tooth and the contracts of other core guys are coming up. But I can see a move into the lower part of the top 10 with no problem.

Do you think Baker Mayfield is worthy of a #1 overall pick?
Would you have been happy if he were coming out this year and the Pats went all-in with him?

I think the blood clot issue could be a career ender if he has a cause for hyper coagulation. He may be at risk for another clot in the future. Death and morbidity from a clot is potentially much worse than a concussion.

If they trade up? Quarterback, TE, RT, WR, DT, LB, S. Take your pick.

Do you have players that you think are worth 2 firsts, a second and a third? It seems unlikely that the top 5 can be gotten for less than that?

Then why are you in the draft forum at all?

Options

1) to assess players at various positions of need

2) to understand the choices available in trading up or down

3) to choose players that we want on the short list

4) to decide before the draft who the patriots MUST take

5) and, of course, to consider the top players we want, even though we would go apshit if Belichick ever traded the resources needed to move up into the top 5.

When Terry Brooks is playing meaningful (& season-killing) snaps because your wonderful GM decided to throw away a top-120 pick for the privilege of drafting the Little Duke (but Not of Dorchester) Dawson instead of Justin Reid, then that's a Failure.

When the Best TE in Football is available at the end of the 4th round but your wonderful GM decided that he would rather have Indy Clots Disease-carrier Dwayne Allen & his bloated contract, then that's a Failure.

Do you really want me to detail what has now become a 17-YEAR (& counting) laughingstock of WR drafting ineptitude since Branch & Givens in 2002?

Or how about not even drafting one damn TE (excluding the execrably less-than-useless Izzo) since Gronk & Hernandez in 2010?

Believe me, you do Not want to go toe-to-toe on this issue here...

It’s easy to go toe to toe. You are whining about little stuff and I am pointing out he has the best Overall results anyone ever has.

I agree with you in some aspects, there have been some misses. Having those players you speak of would have certainly been nice to have especially now when we look at all the potential holes in the roster we could have next year. But we’re talking about Belichick who regardless of who we draft seems to have this team competing and are always looked at to be favorites to go all the way. Now don’t get me wrong I was fuming when he drafted Jordan Richards in the second but you quickly start to forget those kind of things when hes put the team in position to hoist the Lombardi almost every year.

Mr. 6,

It’s entirely possible to be incredibly successful overall while also being dismally bad at one aspect or another of your job.

Overall, Belichick so far has been able to offset his awful recent drafting by making the Patriots the first place veteran free agents go to rebuild their value. The problem with this method is it costs more in cap space and results in constant change. Plus, it’s not sustainable.

If a rebuild is at hand or just around the corner, improving this team’s recent draft performance is essential towards being able to successfully rebuilding this team post-Brady. To pretend otherwise is foolish.

Hard to say if they trade down at this point. I'd give it a few more weeks when we will really start to see the dust settle on who is going where. If there is no brainer value at#23 of course we take it but if not I can totally see trading #23 and one of the comp 3s and a 7th for a high second , 5th and future first.

Homer logic:

Bill Belichick has been successful. Therefore, Bill Belichick has never made a mistake.

BTW, the last time they traded a first-rounder into a future year, they traded #28 in 2011 to the Saints for #56 in 2011 and the Saints' 1 in 2012 (which ended up being #27).

"Little stuff'?

Now I know you're not serious about engaging in objective analysis.

Homer.

Belichick goes toe to toe with all the other GMs of the league.

If Brady leaves or doesn’t play, watch other teams overtake us who have been superior drafters. Like the Colts.

I have more confidence in their GM than in ours. And the insightful point by Ken Simms in our leg up in bringing in free agents not being sustainable over time is proving true right before our eyes.

And the cachet/aura of the team is gone when Brady is, the GOAT.

Good info to know.. I can see something similar happening.
