I don’t see them giving up the capital needed to move up to #1 overall. They didn’t do it when Mayfield came out two years ago and they’re going to have a lot of other needs to fill as some of the core guys are getting a bit longer in the tooth and the contracts of other core guys are coming up. But I can see a move into the lower part of the top 10 with no problem.

Do you think Baker Mayfield is worthy of a #1 overall pick?
Would you have been happy if he were coming out this year and the Pats went all-in with him?

I think the blood clot issue could be a career ender if he has a cause for hyper coagulation. He may be at risk for another clot in the future. Death and morbidity from a clot is potentially much worse than a concussion.

2) to understand the choices available in trading up or down

3) to choose players that we want on the short list

4) to decide before the draft who the patriots MUST take

5) and, of course, to consider the top players we want, even though we would go apshit if Belichick ever traded the resources needed to move up into the top 5.

I agree with you in some aspects, there have been some misses. Having those players you speak of would have certainly been nice to have especially now when we look at all the potential holes in the roster we could have next year. But we’re talking about Belichick who regardless of who we draft seems to have this team competing and are always looked at to be favorites to go all the way. Now don’t get me wrong I was fuming when he drafted Jordan Richards in the second but you quickly start to forget those kind of things when hes put the team in position to hoist the Lombardi almost every year.

It’s entirely possible to be incredibly successful overall while also being dismally bad at one aspect or another of your job.

Overall, Belichick so far has been able to offset his awful recent drafting by making the Patriots the first place veteran free agents go to rebuild their value. The problem with this method is it costs more in cap space and results in constant change. Plus, it’s not sustainable.

If a rebuild is at hand or just around the corner, improving this team’s recent draft performance is essential towards being able to successfully rebuilding this team post-Brady. To pretend otherwise is foolish.

I have more confidence in their GM than in ours. And the insightful point by Ken Simms in our leg up in bringing in free agents not being sustainable over time is proving true right before our eyes.

And the cachet/aura of the team is gone when Brady is, the GOAT.
