Why does Eli look like his mom dressed him up all warm to wait for the school bus on a winter morning?

I think Eli looking like a scrawny dork is emphasized by the contrast between him and every other QB. I can't imagine any coach would consider trying Eli at QB (looking like the nerd he is) if his last name wasn't Manning (hence no QB's look like Manning).
