Fake punt plays in 2019 !!

He buries the ball on kickoffs ... return rate @18% ...

Ghost kickoffs are getting weaker ... so ...........

Kick off specialist too....or....convert him to another position....what position did that kid from Kent state play?

From McGinn, best punter in the draft. JK Scott was really good last year for the Packers and had that like 70 yard punt out of his own end zone against us. Athletic as hell (played some running back), holds, punts, and kicks off.

PUNTERS

1. JAKE BAILEY, Stanford (6-1 ½, 200, 4.75, 5-7): Compared by one coach to JK Scott, the Packers’ fifth-round draft choice last year. “If you’re looking for a hang-time punter this is your guy,” said one coach. “Similar to JK Scott at Alabama. (Scott) could really get the ball up. He started off having a huge gross average. His average kind of went down but his hang times went way up. He was trying to get his net average up, and I think this guy is from the same mold.” Punted and kicked off for most of his four seasons. Averaged 43.8 on punts and 63.3 on kickoffs with a touchback rate of 59.5%. “He’s been a spectacular kickoff guy, too” the coach said. “JK kicked off one year at Alabama, I think. He’s athletic. Has a short approach on kickoffs. Turns a lot of punts over. Got good hands. Very straight leg swing. He holds, punts and kicks off.” Excellent prep long jumper, also played soccer. “Very confident kid,” another coach said. “Competitive. Good hands. He’ll get drafted.” From Solana Beach, Calif.

The draft is four rounds long, folks. The vast majority of players being taken now will never amount to anything. Taking the best punter in the draft is as good a move as any. It's like when they took Matt Slater or Nate Ebner. You can take some likely camp body at a regular position or a potential elite special teams guy. Michael ****son was the best punter in the league last year for the Seahawks as a rookie and he was a 5th round punter.

4.75 40-yard dash time! Whoa. Rob Gronkowski had a 4.68 40 time. James Develin ran 5.02.

I don't like this pick only because I am satisfied with Ryan Allen. Allen is one of the best punters we have ever had so idk what to think.

I was fine with Allen but he only signed a one year contract. If Bailey looks good in camp - as he probably will - and we have a good punter for 4 years instead of 1, that's a good pick.

Couldnt find anyone to trade down with.

He'll get the phantom injury in camp and he'll be stashed for next year.

I like the pick.

I like the pick, goes with the running game and defensive philosophy patriots are adopting.

Think that Stephen G for the time being will handle kickoffs but his leg will wear out one day. So that is why they probably need Jake in a couple of years to handle them one day.

looks like Bill traded up to dump the 7th round picks...just doesn't make sense.

Because 7th round picks don't matter, and they decided there was no one left worth drafting besides a punter. Don't watch day 3 of the draft guys, it's not worth it.

Actually makes some sense the more I think about it. Allen is very good but is only on a 1 year deal. You can have Bailey for cheaper for 4 years instead. Plus, he can take over kickoffs for Gostkowski (who is getting older) without taking up any additional roster spot. In turn, you save some wear-and-tear on Ghost’s leg and maybe keep him kicking FGs a little better for a little longer.

I’ve loved Allen but it makes business sense. Mesko was pretty good too before Allen took his job. BB turns the page on punters fairly quickly and this one makes even more sense than just the usual “he’s cheaper” reasoning.
