Forgive me I don't know enough about the guy. That sort of money suggests they are planning for him to be a starter. Is he good enough?

PFF has its downsides but they correctly noted Guy as a quiet star for the Patriots, so I'm inclined to trust whoever was doing their defensive line grades for the AFC East. Pennel strikes me as a potentially great but relatively unknown pickup like Guy, and he'd have to try to be worse than the likes of Brown and Shelton.

Hilariously dumb contract by the Saints. Pennel should be an easy upgrade to the run D over both Brown and Shelton. The contract tells you how much BB values what he’s going to bring to the table in that facet of the game.

Hopefully, the adrenaline rush playing for a championship nudges him over the top.

Yep, Pennel has had Lawrence Guy written all over him since the offseason began.

They played against him twice last year, which means they did film work on him as an opponent, plus got feedback from their O Line about him. They should know pretty well if he's good enough.

The D Line could be very good again by year's end if they hit on a draft pick or two.

Yep. Guy has made $8.2m of the $15m his 4 year deal calls for. He just completed Year 2.
