AAF suspends football operations

They need away uniforms.

Hackenberg's somewhat less terrible this week.

Hackenberg still got benched. Replaced by Zach Mettenberger, who just threw a TD pass to... former Patriot WR Deven Lucien.

Saw Brian Tyms and Sealver Siliga playing in the earlier game today.

Should we give Gilbert another shot at the PS?

That list isn't even completely accurate, because I know I saw Siliga and Trevor Reilly play for Salt Lake yesterday.

Sterling Moore is on the Hotshots too!

It is good to see these players have employment opportunities. I think the product is pretty good for a Spring league. As with the CFL and the European league that the NFL had, some of these players will get chances in the NFL. So, this is a win for everyone.

I am actually mildly interested in the AAF....yeah I am a football junkie....LOL...lord help me.

Been rooting for the Fleet...(it's where I live). Their best player is Gavin Escobar. And surreal seeing Mike Martz coaching on the sidelines 17 years after SB 36......and a week after BB wins his 6th....

Yeah, it's a pre-season list. I had to move Lucien from the Hotshots to the Express as he was traded.

Anyone watching the league?

Yes. The quality of football is steadily improving, which isn't a surprise. If the league survives for a few seasons so the coaches can really get their cores together rather than being 8 expansion teams, I would not at all be surprised if it does indeed become the mini-NFL its executives want it to be. Where players, and especially coaches, can pad their resumes and show what they can do and become another vector for talent to reach the NFL in an environment that is almost but not quite NFL caliber.

At least a handful of AAF players are probably going to be wearing NFL uniforms next year. Probably the most obvious example being the kicker Younghoe Koo, who's been very impressive in the AAF. He's something of a meme but good kickers are hard enough to find that some team will sign him.

That's good to know ...

Orlando Apollos QB Garrett Gilbert will be the Kurt Warner of the AAF | Commentary

"A message to my fellow Central Floridians: If you want to see Orlando Apollos quarterback Garrett Gilbert, then you better hurry and get your tickets because — mark my words — he’ll be on an NFL roster next year. My prediction: Gilbert will go down as the Kurt Warner of the Alliance of American Football. Just as Warner went from the Arena League to NFL stardom, I believe Gilbert has all of talent and intangibles to go from the Alliance to a starting quarterback job in the NFL. He’s big, he’s tough, he’s smart, he’s athletic and his passes are prettier than Angelina Jolie."

"He’s been on five NFL scout teams and even has a Super Bowl ring from when he was on the New England Patriots practice squad as a rookie. “To be able to play football again has been a blast,” Gilbert says. “Playing NFL preseason football is fun, but you only get a few series here and there. The Alliance is just what I hoped it would be — a chance to play extended, meaningful action against great competition and guys who have been in the league. “Everybody here wants to get back to the NFL and I’m not different, but right now I’m not thinking about the NFL. I’m trying to be the best quarterback I can be for the Apollos every single day. My job and my responsibility is to try to lead this team to a championship.”

Yeah, Gilbert's probably the best QB in Florida right now. Sorry Nick Foles.

Johnny Football is back!
