You can almost guarantee that whoever we cut to clear a spot for Rodney will be signed away by some looser team. Wouldn't it be better to consider trading a JAG and get a pick for next year.

If we cut R Baker someone scoops him up

Jim Miller on Sirius NFL Radio predicted that Harrison wouldn't immediately start. The main reason to slowly ease Harrison back in was the play of James Sanders. Miller said that Sanders is too in sync with the rest of the defense to warrant a benching. I agree with Miller's assessment.

I highly doubt the Pats plan to cut Gutierrez (since, as a 3rd QB, he counts as a "46th" player on game day).

Chad Brown is a veteran, so he is not subject to waivers; Cincinnati might sign him, but only if he's interested.

[I'm not sure what would happen with Rashad Baker, who is in his fourth season.]

Me too. I always thought Sanders covered better then Harrison, now he is starting to play like a complete safety. I've seem him blitz to the LOS a few times this year and hit a few people. That would be quite unfair to immediately bench a guy playing like he is right away.

Sanders has done well. Rodney is one of our best players. He will make his appearance in the first series (just as Samuel quickly displaced Gay). BB plays the best players.

No one in their right mind would trade any sort of draft pick for any one of those guys. Gutierrez is a project at best (no, Atlanta or Chicago will not scoop him up, except to possibly put him on the practice squad), Chad Brown is about 149 years old, and Rashad Baker is a special teamer who's a complete stiff on defense. Teams don't trade for JAGs because, guess what, there are plenty of "just another guys" available on practice squads or free agency.

Consider that Doug Gabriel, essentially the Raiders #2 receiver last year before he was traded, netted only a 5th from a team desperate for receivers.

I agree that Rodney will be slowly brought along, in a similar manner to Samue who didn't start until week three.

I also agree that Sanders is playing very well right now.

But I think that some are forgetting just how good Rodney looked this preseason. He looked like a force of nature; like he how he did in 2003 and 2004. If he is still on that level now 4 weeks later, I don't see how you keep him off the field, Sanders or no Sanders. Besides, Sanders will still see the field plenty.

This is the kind of argument where you'd say, "well, Michael Turner has been playing awfully well, do we really want to start Ladanian Tomlinson this week?"

Come on guys. Harrison will improve the red zone defense tremendously. There is no way you keep him off the field. He'll be starting in Dallas; Belichick probably feels there's no rush right now playing the Browns at home, but you're crazy if you think Harrison won't be right back in the starting lineup as soon as next week.

Whether this is true or not remains to be seen, but it would not surprise if they did hold him out.

He hasn't been working out with the team and he is not in football shape yet.

I expect him to make his TRUE return, as far as impact, in the Dolphin game @ Miami on10/21.

They'll need the rotation in the secondary in the midday heat of Miami.

Glad to say I'll be tailgating in the Orange section before the game and sitting there in either 143 or 118 watching it live!

Yeah, but it's going to get harder to keep Gutierrez on there when Seymour, Troy and CJ become available to come off the PUP. I wonder if their intention is to keep him on the roster all season. If their intention is to cut and hopefully sign to the PS, I wonder what the best timing would be.

Guts is going nowhere. None of the returning players are a surprise to the Pats. If they weren't sure that Guts belonged on the roster they would have kept Justin Rogers.

He is a capable back-up but we need a tough SS like Landry in the next draft. Merriweather is a great Wilson replacement for 08. Just think Sanders is a product of Bill B's' defensive scheme. He's another JAG to me but I guess decent in emergencies.
I have seen his miss more tackles and coverages this year than any other starter. Is everyone else watching the same guy? He is the weakest link for sure. What does everyone see in him? He's not a rookie. He gets no slack here.

Sanders has been decent, certainly not spectacular, but serviceable in what he's been asked to do. I personally would much rather have Harrison -duh.

But I will say that this is at least the third or fourth similar post where you have ripped into Sanders for one play that the entire defense was probably told to relax for. At that point, BB may have wanted time left on the clock for the offense. None the less, he's not nearly as bad as you make him out to be, but I wouldn't call him a true quality starter in this league either.

I prefer my SSs to have the size of Milloy and Harrison: 6'1", 220.

Sanders is built like a FS, except that he can't cover like a FS.

Sanders is the perfect 5th Safety, behind Harrison - Wilson and Mitchell - Merriweather. He can play both positions, just not at a starter's (for the NEP) level.
