My brother just pointed out to me that this was the biggest margin of win for a Patriots Super Bowl
And the previous high was -- an overtime win.

Even the 85 Bears and 00 Ravens gave up more points in the title game than the 18 Pats...and the Pats faced a much better offense than those teams did.

Let that sink in a bit.

Regards,
Chris

I am running out of drawer space for my Super Bowl t-shirts.
you would need to build an addition if you were collecting starting with division championships

Like I said in the GDT.

We played like the 85 Bears tonight.

So many thought floating around this inebriated head right now:
  • That Jason McCourty play to break up a surefire Cooks TD was insane
  • On that note, Cooks completely dropped far and away Goff's best pass of the night IMO when Goff dropped it in the bucket near the goal line and Cooks completely whiffed because of impending pressure. So happy we traded him.
  • This whole game I got the same feeling as I did in the Chiefs one that we're completely outplaying them but they're still in it. The 4th quarter sequence of TD-interception-FG was unreal to put that to rest.
  • NO FREAK CATCHES THANK F***
  • Michel low key had a very solid game and his propensity for ball security is underappreciated
  • Thought Edelman deserved MVP but would have been good with Gilmore as well
  • Was really concerned when Chung was knoced out then realized how fortunate we were that Harmon was our backup safety. That's a fantastic backup to have.
  • So happy for the McCourty twins!

To be fair, the 7 points the 2000 Ravens allowed came from a kickoff return for TD. On the other hand they faced a throroughly mediocre offense with Kerry Collins at the helm.

But let that sink in, the 3 points allowed are tied for the lowest ever in a Super Bowl. Tied with the Cowboys beating Miami 24-3 in Super Bowl VI. And this against the second-highest scoring offense in an offense-centric era.

Haven't watched ESPN in forever — actually forgot it existed until someone mentioned it her. But love seeing how in awe Steve Young is of this defensive performance. Wonder if this game plan goes to Canton too.

The remarkablt thing is how little the Chung injury hurt them. They just inserted Harmon, a top 10 NFL safety, as a full time player, and moved JC Jackson in... It's a testament to the way the Patriots have built a secondary with a top-3 corner in Gilmore and then a bunch of legitimate players, some of whom were undrafted free agents and some of whom were veterans. Say what you will about the last few drafts but most teams would beg for early round picks as good as Jonathan Jones and JC Jackson.

And, of course, that's the difference with last year. Last year Chung got hurt and they inserted Bademosi and Richards. This year they have Jones healthy plus McCourty. Jackson's your emergency guy as opposed to some special teamer, and Jackson was starting against the Chiefs! Just miles difference in depth, regardless of the Butler sub.
Harmon is a veteran player who has proven himself capable. As much as I hated seeing Chung go down, I had confidence in Harmon.

Said it before ... Saying it again ... I HATE these heart-attack games, but I LOVE this team!

Early pick - no problem. Great D by the Rams - no problem. This team has no quit in them - none. To see a team grind it out like that is an amazing thing to watch.

Special props to Slater, Harmon, J-Mac ... They made some big plays - and Harmon coming in for Chung and not missing a beat says a lot.

To all the haters out there - the talking heads who salivate over the Patriot's demise, the uninformed fans who can just yell "Cheaters!" like a broken record - EAT A BAG OF SIX!

This felt a lot like super bowl 36. Defense was key and just like 36, it was basically sealed with a clutch fg.

Trying not to say anything stupid immediately after the game but I think I like this defense more than 2014 & it’s the best since 2004. 2014 had more talent but this unit seems more aggressive. Easily the best secondary since 2003.

They blitzed 50% of the time. That is unbelievable!

I mean, I think the Patriots have three Tier 1 safeties. It's not that Harmon's a capable veteran, it's that he's one of the best players at his position in the league... a position that's notably undervalued in today's NFL.
