Two McCourtys Are Better Than One | By Jason McCourty

Anyhow, I remember early on in training camp, we were out there doing drills and Bill called us both over, super serious. When we got to him, he looked at both of us back and forth a couple of times and said, “Do you guys have to wear the same f***ing sleeves?”

And then of course, we wore the same sleeves for the rest of camp. Had to. Too funny not to. And Bill still struggled with it. Even when we were in jerseys wearing our different numbers, he’d just called me Dev too.

Some good stuff. Difficult not to root for him not only because he is on our team in his first postseason..

Really nice article. If he plays as well as he writes he might stick in this league.

I’d forgotten his INT against Buffalo to seal the clinching win. Would be great if he can top that with a pick to seal a win in a playoff game.

Got a new look for the avatar I see.

I predicted when they had signed Jason he'd be a good fit for the obvious reason he's playing with his brother. And he's been a good signing.

I hope we can resign him to a similar contract for next year. I was surprised to learn he was rated a top 10 CB this year.

“Like when I first got here in April, there were so many times I’d be in the training room in the hot tub and someone would walk in and just kind of pause. I knew what they were doing. They were waiting for me to talk first to figure out whether I was the player who had been with the team for a decade or the new guy. They knew if the person in the tub greeted them with a joke or something funny, that was Dev. If it was a “Hey, what’s up?” that was probably me. Unless it was Dev pretending to be me, which, I’ll admit, historically has happened.”

Very nice article, validates the "character" of the McCourty's even more..

Written better than most articles written by sports scribes who do this stuff for a living..

Jason part of our secondary that was rated #2 this year.. forget where I read that, but it stuck in my mind. PFF??

JMac pretty much became the starter at LCB in week-2 (effectively replacing Rowe), and that was his primary role until Jackson emerged after the BYE.

JMac then took over for Jon Jones in the slot, but also played a safety-ish role at times. He's played man, zone, pattern-matching, off and press coverages, and followed specific receiver at time - and done all of those things very well, especially for his first year in the Pats schemes (although I'm sure he was further ahead than most guys coming in, because ... Devin).

The only Pats CB who's seen more snaps this season is Gilmore (834 to 1014), and JMac also contributed 114 ST snaps. He ended the regular season with the fourth most tackles on the team (70), and the 2nd most PDs (10), plus the INT and a force fumble.

The thing is, those stats are entirely consistent with the numbers he's put up for his entire career. The surprising thing to me is that it took this long for folks to notice.

Folks notice more because Patriots.

He played for a couple of ho-hum teams in ho-hum markets before he got here. Glad he’s finally able to enjoy the exposure, and share it with Dev.

Great article! Hope we win one for JMac! :)
