Patriots Player Departure Josh Gordon Stepping Away?

I have had a blast watching the Hogan’s, Amendolas and Browns being dependable. I make a fair argument. I don’t like that we put up the time and draft capital into the Gordon run. What is your disagreement?

We got 3/4 of a season out of Gordon. Honestly that’s about what we should have expected. No way we were going to give josh a multi year extension. This move was solely for 2018. I’m not too concerned about our draft capital. We’re gonna get 2 comp picks higher than the one we gave up for Gordon.

I don't have any disagreement with dependable and talented , which those guys are/were. If you read my post again, you'll hopefully notice the word "merely" next to "dependable" and the absence of the word "talented."

I'd say the very minimal investment paid off a touch more than equitably. You are severely overestimating the "draft capital" involved. 50 (or so) draft slots at the bottom of the draft where it's a crap shoot anyway is not much to cough up for 720 yds. Not to mention the games that might not have been won without him, he tasked defenses (particularly the Bears) in ways that disrupted their game plans. His presence alone drove Indy's D to distraction and opened things up for White and Gronk.

Yes it sends a message to the team that this guy is important. They gave Gordon attention and resources that a normal guy would not get. I’d rather we focus on guys who can be dependable.

So, in your mind, Gordon getting a locker next to Brady is somehow an "extra" expenditure of attention and resources that cost the team something that it wouldn't have with a "normal guy"?

You're claiming that no other WR ("normal guy") joining the Pats after the season had already started would have gotten the locker next to Brady, so that he and Brady would have more opportunities to talk and to get on the same page quicker? To you, it's not even a possibility that someone like Tate or Thomas would have needed or benefited from that (not to mention the Pats offense)?

You'd rather that the team focus on "dependable guys", regardless of talent? Like Gronk?

Serious question ... how old are you?

Gordon was just a distraction the team does not need.

Especially this season.

No offense but this is just a more extreme equivalent of the Pats drafting or trading for a talented player whose an injury risk, the fans getting excited about them for a few weeks, then an injury happens and everyone gets bent out of shape.

Everyone knew this was a huge risk with Gordon and this was the reason we got him as cheap as we did. A bottom feeder like the Browns practically threw him away.

I get the sense that the team saw this coming......you can tell when someone is falling off of a wagon.

Dude had nothing to do with the success / failure of this years team

Yeah, I agree with this. Looking back now, it does seem something was up the last couple of weeks

Yea what was up with that.

Sounds like he should be calling REMAX and getting his resume together.

This was on a bye weekend. Can you imagine what an entire offseason would bring? No doubt that the Pats considered this a one-season thing, and he didn't even make it through that.

So we've given the Browns 3 picks for free, basically.

How do you figure it was 3 draft picks?
The Trade was Gordon and a 7th for a 5th..
The Pats only traded a 3rd for Shelton and got a 5th in return..

As you have read Gordon got bye the security the Pats had on him every day. He did so on the bye weekend. He failed many tests before being suspended. He not only failed the drug test for weed but also other drugs.

As more keep coming out I feel this is a sad case. He couldn't handle his demons.

Pats took a gamble and it didn't work out. I am OK with that.

Gordon is sick, I hope he gets better. As for football in the future, I want him done forever in the NFL. He had more than one chance and blew them.

Sad

Schefter said he ditched his round the clock security team to go do drugs. Pathetic.

Not true. Schefter said that Gordon ditched his security at some point during the bye week. Said nothing about doing drugs in that article.

One thing of interest from that article is that according to the league substance abuse policy, if it was a positive test, Gordon would have been banned , though he could apply for reinstatement if clean..

Imho, there is a difference between suspended indefinitely and being banned. Curious as to which it actually is..

Wow just wow. Not sure how to converse with someone who is so out of touch. Not only are you saying this whole roster is a mistake but you think BB thinks so too. I guarantee you BB does not think this team is a mistake.

Don't mean to pile on,man, but in this case I think it's you that's out of touch.
You are actually insulting BB.
You don't think arguably the GOAT coach is capable of self-critical thinking?
That is one of the primary traits of anyone who's successful- the ability to recognize your own mistakes and take appropriate action.
Ive never met TB or BB but I can guarantee you that both are tougher on themselves than anybody else is on them.
BB miscalculated the wr position. It sounded well-stacked, but virtually all the newcomers plus the key guys(je,Gronk) were coming off injuries.
Yes,there was an element of bad luck in pretty much every wr being unable to play. You don't think BB came to the same conclusion? Why in the hell did he trade for Gordon then?
Yes, no one knew Wynn would miss the entire year.
But he flat-out messed up with the front 7, especially the dl. Yes,again there was bad luck with Bentley's injury.
But the dts have been mediocre-bad.
I don't know what happened to Malcolm brown. We all know how bad Shelton has sucked. Guy has played well but he's a rotational guy. If he's your best dt,you're in trouble.
Flowers is a stud.
High has been a great player but I think BB miscalculated on how effective he'd be coming back. He may still get better, but the Pats needed more.
All of the above is stuff BB knew before all of us, but at that point the season was underway and wasn't much he could do about it.
Watch this season how big a priority the front 7 is.

The league has not said that he failed a drug test. In fact, it's only Rappaport and Schefter just now reporting about Gordon ditching security.

The failed drug test has been pure speculation..

He probably didn't ditch security to feed homeless children.
