Patriots Player Departure Josh Gordon Stepping Away?

Does that make sense to anyone else or am I just being an insane homer?

Since no one here actually knows any of the details, your guess is as good as any.

And you know this how? Meaning how, exactly, do you know it was weed he got popped for? Are you in possession of the test results? Gordon has acknowledged mental health issues and has admitted in the past to having problems with cocaine, codeine, opioids, xanax, booze and other substances but this time the issue was he simply "likes to smoke weed" and for that we have what exactly by way of proof?

This.

For all we know, he might've gotten "popped" simply for failing to show up for a test, even if he hadn't actually consumed any prohibited substances.

"Violating terms of reinstatement" could mean quite a few things, but likely isn't the terminology they'd use for what would otherwise be a "failed drug test". Like some have speculated, perhaps he missed a test? Or missed some mandatory therapy?

Or refused to turn over his phone to Goodell.

Whatever the reason (route running, hands, whatever) it is pretty apparent Brady and Dorsett just haven't been able to get on the same page. At this point it may just be necessary to simplify his route tree to just a step above all go routes and toss a few a game at him to keep D's honest and take the top off a touch.

Dorsett has actually been used mostly on short and intermediate routes this season:

27/32 (84%) ... 256 yds (9.5 ypc) ... 14 1st-downs on 27 catches ... 2 red zone TDs

In 2016, Hogan and Gronk (when healthy) were the "deep threats"; Mitchell and Bennett were intermediate-range guys outside the numbers; Edelman, Amendola and White were the short-intermediate range guys between the hashes.

Weed, alcohol and cheating on his girlfriend. He has demons.

Or choices.

Gordon never actually loses anything personal because his 2nd chance is always waiting. He still has money and the clout of being an NFL player. Evidently he has no problems with the ladies and I would argue that he is more attractive to women because he is someone to fix.

Everyone feels sorry for Josh.

"The problem" is addiction. The specific substance is pretty much irrelevant.

And some mental health issues that often preclude great decision making..

Demons such as that are difficult to manage and control.. a step in the right direction for him was to admit that mental health was an issue, earlier in the year Everson Griffin took a brief hiatus from Minnesota so he could deal with his mental health issues...

The Pats loss here was about going down 60 picks in the draft to the 7th round, and a decimated offense that has already been struggling..

Wonderful, great sensitivity for addictions and mental health issues... the Pats took a low risk and it failed.

Not sure what women you hang around with but women are not all that adept at "fixing" men with addiction and mental health issues.. addiction and depression (assumed) are "dark passengers" that haunt men and women when they least expect it.. I would argue to not become romantically involved with a man who has these issues as they probably will get worse unless the man takes control, but seldom is it completely "cured" and parts of it will always be present.. mental illness is a *****.

People like you are why Gordon is the way he is.

Not his fault.

This is extraordinary for a guy with 4.33 speed. Few NFL players have better fly speed. That’s a waste of talent.

The dateline on that article is April 11, 2016.

Sorry! I didn't scroll down far enough to see that others had already noted this.
Yeah wrong link. Looks like he was going to get pinched anyways

Not necessarily.

Dorsett also posted a 6.70 3-cone, and has some short-area quickness skill, too. From what I've observed, Dorsett doesn't possess as much of the deep throw tracking/adjustment ability that Hogan and Gronk do. Patterson, who also has good long speed (4.42) doesn't really, either.

However, Patterson has the ability to use his speed for big YAC on intermediate-range throws. Dorsett may be able to do that, too, at some point.

Feel sorry? Naaah......but putting in an effort to understand the situations of others is the decent thing.

It’s the same way with @ssholes.....not all of them have the choice

Well, I said that just from watching him. In my opinion, he's a lost soul that just doesn't have being a teammate on or off the field in him, as talented as he may have been. Too bad.

Remember when people were suggesting we trade a 1st or 2nd rounder for Gordon?

Yikes.. I hope he finds himself the help he needs, but his football days are done. Really put us in a terrible spot with 2 games to go before the playoffs start and a sputtering offense

Oh well, we'll get to watch the pats dog it out like back in the early 2000's

It's darkly funny that the reaction of all the Patriots players has been unconditional love and support for Gordon, while certain fans (the usual suspects) on this board are excoriating the guy as a bad teammate and bad person. It's one thing to be upset that Gordon being suspended makes the chance the Patriots fill the cold void of your souls with a fleeting moment of joy by winning the Super Bowl smaller (that upsets me too!), but it's another thing altogether to have zero empathy at all.
