Post Game Thread- Pats beat the Chiefs

Given who we were playing against and how "slow and untalented" our defense allegedly is they played pretty well. The two absolute idiotic fast TDs they gave up put them despite consistently stopping KC in the redzone and forcing two turnovers into "meh" category.

The offense almost **** the bed with turnovers and continuing issues in the redzone. They were playing a defense that was missing 4 safeties. The FG drive at the end lifts them up into the "meh" category.

On top of that ST created two extremely short fields for the Chiefs. That puts them below "meh".

This team is just so damn inconsistent. Whatever, the only thing that counts is the win.

To be fair, I don't see how they didn't call Zombo for an illegal block in the back on Slater on the huge run back. Pushed him from behind. They've called the exact same play at least 3 other times in other games..

Not sure what the deal was with the short kick. That is something that BB typically calls for some reason.

I was thinking I would probably work from home tomorrow, but I know for sure now my ass is heading in wearing my Pats gear.

I get a lot of crap being a Pats fan outside the area so I gotta enjoy times like these. I’m sure many of you on here can relate.

I actually think we owe this win to the defense. Obviously they had an AWFUL second half, but if they didn't dominate in the first half, this is a blowout in the other direction. Brady's bad fumble + terrible kickoff coverage twice gave KC short fields, which led to fast scores and opened up the game again.

Tough to cover Hill. He has speed like Chris Johnson or Randy Moss. Who can stop that quick strike? Mahomes to Hill is possibility the scariest deep threat in the league. Also, deep in mind that KC scored around their average, so our defense did about as well as could be expected (given the circumstances of poor starting field positions + two breakdowns for long scores). Clean up ball security, sustain longer drives in the second, and level Hill at the line, and I think we could hold them to 30 next time. Welcome to the new NFL.

Thankfully, I think we can also hang another 40 on them.

Any ideas on fixing the safety play? Can Dawson possibly be an answer once he comes off IR?

If we play Kc again we need some faster guys in there. Crossen or Jackson should help. The McCourties can’t keep up with him. Jones did well against him on a couple plays.

"Pretty well"? Did you not watch them absolutely **** the bed in crunch time?

And which unit came through in crunch time?

Without the 2 turnovers, the redzone stops and the 3 & out there is no crunch time to come back from. We were not playing the Bills but maybe the most dynamic offense in the league. They held their own and gave this team a chance to win the game.

As nice as this win is, they still have the same problems from last season. They schemed pretzels into Mahomes’ head in the first half and when he figured it out, they lit up the scoreboard like a pinball machine. They’ll once again be our Achilles heel.

Belichick has been riding Brady's coattails for 15 years.
Disagree. Remember who made the decision to keep him as starter when Bledsoe was healthy again, in the face of the conventional wisdom that the starter doesn't lose his job just because he was injured. Belichick made Brady what he is,

Great to get a W.....but man do we have a lot of holes to fill on D....they can’t stop anyone! Mccourty brothers are a liability out there.....no pass rush, sh!tty secondary....inconsistent at best against the run....ST needs a lot of work (ghost I don’t care what BB says kick the fcking thing out of the EZ).....Brady still looks a little off....and lastly ....is there any way we can still trade McD to Indy?!?!

A win is a win, onto chicago. Hope wise is ok

Michel is gonna be a beast if he lasts

Ghost so reliable and under appreciated. White is a stud. Gordon made an impact 3rd week in a row. Gronk had his best showing of the season and it was sorely needed

Been saying it for weeks now but hopefully bb finally stops ****ing around and just kick it through the ez. As infuriating as tonight was maybe its the wakeup call they needed, really could have cost us the game

Dmc a concern as is defense overall, but we only have probably 3 really good qbs left on the schedule and 2 (ben, rodgers) play on heavily flawed teams. They have a chance to build some confidence and iron stuff out going into the real season

Brady quietly had a great game aside from the fumble. And clutch

We already found a way to exploit the roughing the qb rules, haters gonna be livid lmaoooooo

That last Hill TD is why I thought McCourty should have been the deep safety in Cover-1. Harmon took a horrific angle and then didn’t have the make-up speed to push him out of bounds.
Are we still sure it was cover 1?

I don’t think there’s a great answer there. They will be matchup dependent for the remainder of season and, most importantly, playoffs. Some matchups are okay, some are less so. I don’t think there’s a team they will be able dominate in terms of secondary play. Neutralize a guy with Gilmore, maybe, make some plays with scrappiness in Jones, sure, maybe DMac rounds into shape and can make some plays...but it is what it is. I don’t think there’s a down-roster or FA pickup fix that’s going to happen. They gotta coach the guys they have.

Malcolm Brown was sorely missed. Forced the Pats to play a lot of Nickel defense.

I think that Jonathan Jones is still getting his legs back under him from his torn ACL.

Not sure what happened to Rowe, but he was out there for like 3 snaps and looked lost each time.

Hopefully eagles Super Bowl hero Rowe never sets foot on the field again.

Lmao no they didn’t. One play and a score for the Queefs’ last possession. They **** the bed.

The offense needed 43 points and a last minute field goal to win. The defense did not do its job. Sorry to tell you, but your take in the game thread was brain dead. Just take the mulligan.

If the offense doesn't turn it over twice the Chiefs dont score 40.

Are we still sure it was cover 1?
It was single high safety with Harmon taking the deep routes. Looked like Cover-1 unless they were trying to disguise.

I don't think Dorsett took an offensive snap.
Was he active? I guess he’s just less useful right now since other guys do what he does well, better, but he’s not bad, and he’s pretty good depth. I suppose I would rather have a guy the size of Hogan as my third WR (plus Hogan has more time in the system) but he did well enough during Edelman’s suspension.

Any ideas on fixing the safety play? Can Dawson possibly be an answer once he comes off IR?

I hope so. I had him pegged as the guy to take over from McCourty long term when he was drafted. But who knows what's gonna happen..

It was still the defense’s job to stop them and they didn’t. The last Chiefs play went one play for a TD. They **** the bed. Just stop. You sound ridiculous.
