Semi OT: Hurricane Florence and Patriots traveling to Jacksonville

Flo' is tracking farther south than predicted yesterday, and if it does so one more time, there may be some rain and wind for the game after all.
Yup, the high pressure is blocking it from going north. It could turn and go down the S.C. coast towards Georgia and have the coast all on the bad side of the storm. Right now it is going to sit off Wilmington for nearly 2 days - pray for those people.

FWIW, they're projecting thunderstorms here for the game. Might be delays in game play. I hope not because my response if that happens will be to go to the stadium bar and spend money hand-over-fist.

I've seen some projections of it being anywhere from a 2-3 in that time. If that's the case, those people should be fine for the most part. Load up on beer and snacks and charge your mobile devices as best as possible and HUNKER DOWN.

Until you have seen the damage a hurricane can inflict first hand, you can't imagine. It's sensory overload with ruptured sewer lines, dead animals, rotting food, stagnant water..... and utter destruction...
I've seen boats 30 feet up in trees and churches with entire lower levels gone with just steel beams supporting upper levels with choir lofts untouched.. and houses 3 miles inland that were affected by storm surges ( walls of water).... Blue tarps on roofs as far as the eye can see for those houses still standing...
Google Gulfport MS and Katrina and click images....

I’ve seen it many times. A Cat 3 can get a little hairy. Cat 4 and 5 nobody should even be around for. It’s like a bomb went off.

If this is what happens, and Flo' stalls on the coast as predicted, Myrtle Beach will never recover from this. It just won't have the buildable land left, even if somehow the money and desire shows up.

I'm in Wilmington and we got bad news today. The storm is now tracking to be a hair south of us. That puts us in the worst spot you can be in a big hurricane- the NE quadrant- where the most powerful winds are and the worst damage happens. It's a deadly cat4 now, projecting to be a very high cat3-low cat 4. That's brutal. Hope it moves more northerly again, but it's not looking like it.

Yup. My wife organized 4 trips down to Vancleave, MS after Katrina to help rebuild. Wild stuff, like you say. Boats in trees. Entire buildings gone with just steps remaining.

Can't. My kids are staying on a hotel in Charlotte.
I'm about 5 miles from the beach so storm surge not an issue.
I'm only 1/2 mile from the Cape Fear River and that will crest but I live on very high ground not in a flood zone.
Biggest danger will be the cat3 winds. I've been thru that before and it's rough.

The spotter planes recorded 83' waves in the ne quadrant of the hurricane this morning.

From the perspective of enjoying Mother Nature, that is very cool.
It won't be soon, I know, I know.

Looks like the heat is going to be brutal for this game. I'm seeing 92 with a heat index of 100. Whatever that means.
