Shula implies Brady a fraud, Dynasty needs an asterisk

How ironic that Shula is notorious for having committed the single most egregious act of "gamesmanship" in NFL History. Going into the 1982 AFCCG, the Jets Freeman McNeil was virtually unstoppable. There was little doubt that the Jets would beat the Dolphins, with the NY Sack Exchange in full force against the inept David Woodley. So Shula watered the Orange Bowl field all week so that it became a mud bowl, neutralizing the Jets athletic advantage. The Killer B defense swarmed all over Richard Todd and a Miami team that had no business making it to the SB got their due to Shula's devious wit. For him to make sanctimonious statements about gamesmanship is the height of hypocrisy. It's another example of how as men age they tend to gloss over the errors of their own youth and ascribe to the younger generation sins new and strange. But nothing is new under the sun.

Big difference. Apples and Oranges. In the Jets/Dolphins case both teams had to play on the same field. In cameragate both teams did not have the equal advantage of videotaping each other's signals. Finally, Shula didn't break any NFL rules, BB did.

There is nothing wrong with gamesmanship if it is within the confines of the rules of the game. When gamesmanship is in direct violation of the rules of the game it's justifiably called what is is....cheating.

Its only this black and white to mental midgets. If being in violation of the rules is cheating, then every team that has committed a false start is also cheating. The anticipated response "thats different!" in about 20 words. No? Apples and Oranges still? What about every team that has committed a personal foul? Aren't they cheating? All the late hits on Tom Brady.. do you think Tom Brady being sidelined 2 months hurts the team more than the video camera helped? Anticipated response "Whats your point?" Well if you calculate the impact of the rule infraction.. Personal Foul...Brady being sidelined vs using a video camera for the "competitive advantage" ...yeah I think you know which one has a bigger impact. Still don't get the point? The chargers had a late hit on Brady. You think Brady being injured in the 1st quarter and out for 4 weeks helps the Chargers playoff chances, ofcourse it does..especially if they win week 2. Do you think us recording defensive signals helps us more than losing Brady?

Btw stealing signals is not cheating, please reference the NFL rulebook if you have contrary information.

Or... wait...maybe the players who have committed personal fouls are cheaters...but since they're individual players...we can't brand the entire team as cheaters. But since the coach, who manages the team, violated a rule we can therefore brand the entire team as "cheaters." Is that how it works? But since Kraft is the owner and was unaware of the camera, and he is above Belichick I suppose we then can say the Patriots are not cheaters?

What defines who is a cheater, if breaking a rule brands you a cheater...Then I can list you about 1500 current cheaters. Or are only the people sanvara decides labelled cheaters. That must be it. Isn't it.

Bonus question.

If a team is penalized 5 yards(or forced to use a timeout) for excessive crowd noise. Who is the cheater in this case? The entire city? The coach for not controlling the crowd? The players for encouraging the fans?

This rule was abolished recently, but had infact been enforced. I remember a case I 'believe' Jeff Fisher was called for this.

Just heard it on Westwood One, with all-world loser Jim Gray leading the way. I really expected more from Shula. He must be senile and dribbling his apple sauce. BB has always admired him so much. It's hard for me to say a bad word about Shula, I had always respected him as a man and coach. The media must be confusing him about the issue. He thinks Brady was getting secret radio signals before each play telling him exactly what the defense was running for the last 7 years.

Sounds like Don has consumed a few too many scotches at his steak houses over the years. The brain cells are definitely deteriorating.

Speaking of radio signals to Brady, I assume you hit the hilarious You-Tube link that was put up yesterday?

Let me get this straight. The fact that they played on the same field means it is not cheating? Obviously Shula believed that watering the field into a muddy mess gave his team the advantage, or he wouldn't have wasted 120,000 gallons of water and some poor sap's time. If he was interested in a fair competition, he would have left the field alone.

Shula almost had a heart attack over the snow plow incident, but he has no problem turning his field into a swamp if he thinks it helps his odds at winning.

Don't those loser Dolphins have a message board? ...or maybe you just can't stand wallowing an anymore of that gutt wrenching depression so you have to come here and try to rain on someone else's party.

Go back to moonlighting as Don Shula's butt boy somewhere else.

Don Shula is still alive? Who knew...
