Adam Schefter: Brady not yet committed to playing in 2018

It’s a stretch to get Rosen.

No it's not. He might actually fall a little if somehow the browns take a guy like Josh Allen. Some teams might be willing to move out of the top 10.

Hard to fault anyone for a choice like this. On the one hand, it's a massive committment to keep playing, and you lose out on years with your kids you can't have ever again. But when you've been doing something at such a high level for almost 20 years, it's not easy to just walk away. You may never be this good at something ever again either.

It does leave the team in an awkward position though, given what just happened with Jimmy.

For me, there’s no denying Rosen’s pure talent. His mechanics are impeccable. My question is whether he has a long-term passion for the game. That said, I think they’d have to trade up into the top 3 to get him and I just don’t see that.

Matt Miller of Bleacher report, Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network & Benjamin Allbright all have Rosen as the QB to slide & currently outside their top 5 in mocks FWIW. I think McShay does as well as of yesterday.

Definitely a fair concern over Rosen & why we may even have a shot at him. I know you’re a Mayfield guy & I’d gladly take him but it looks like he’s heading to the Jets @ #3.

It’s doubtful he falls.

Browns take Allen, then all of sudden Giants already telegraphed Darnold if he’s there. That means Jets are near certain to go for Rosen if he’s there and if they go Mayfield you still have to get past the Broncos and hope you can trade last the Bills if that happens.

The safest bet for Rosen is trading for the 2 it’s risky to even trade for the 4.

And again you are saying goodbye to a massive amount of picks for him.

I don't see the broncos taking a QB this season. I think the jests will select mayfield. I got the donkeys taking Nelson from notre dame who likely will be a stud at guard.

If the consensus 2nd best QB is there at 5 I see no way the Broncos don’t take him unless Barkley or Chubbs is on the board imo and the only way that happens is if the Giants go QB. Either way, you’d have to get past the Bills

Browns - Allen

Giants - Darnold

Jetes - Mayfield

Browns - Barkley

Broncos - Nelson

Rosen, I believe, will drop out of the top 10 unless some team trades up.

Nelson has been thought to be the best player regardless of position. He's one of those can't miss prospects at guard. They have a QB.

Well that’s kind of ****ty to read. Though I really doubt he doesn’t play this season. I just can’t see him hanging them up yet when he’s clearly still got it.

Regarding QBs, I think they’re targeting getting one in the draft already, but I doubt Belichick will treat the position much differently than any other - he will target the position but won’t reach for it.

I have a response for why he might, but ill get yelled at to keep it isolated to another thread.

He’s committed. He wouldn’t be throwing the ball around with Jules if he weren’t.
Throwing the ball around with Jules is a good sign but Shefty has pretty good intel.....he also covers his tracks well when hes wrong.

I’m not trying to go down this rabbit hole, but you can’t trade the GOAT while he still plays like the GOAT. The guy gives us the best chance to win Super Bowls now. If Brady looked like hammered **** at the beginning of 2017 or his INT total was noticeably increasing, I’d have been on board.
Correct me if I'm not wrong, but wasn't Tom Brady the MVP of the entire freaking league last year?

Damn, there's a lot of self-hating so-called Patriot fans on this board...

The Brownies are stupid enough for them to take Allen over Darnold or Rosen.

And then the Jete say, hold my beer, we're drafting Mayfield.

The player says he wants to play until 45.
The team ships off the next great NFL QB.
The OC turns down a lucrative HC position to remain OC

And Schefty indirectly insinuates: Brady might just be a liar who will screw over his coaches and team.

Not much of a legacy boost if such an event unfolds

Here's my limited hot take: Brady will be in Brookline 10 months a year while his kids go to school anyways....might as well play some football. Might as well prove the TB12 Method is truly the Fountain of Youth. And being able to put on a football uniform limits his wife's opportunities to dress Brady in matching outfits with her.

Oh Schefty....you are looking very pale, blotchy, and slightly bloated. You, my friend, are the one that needs a hiatus

Some of the attitudes in this thread are downright embarrassing. Brady has earned respect and a little dignity. We can be clear-headed about planning for the future without resorting to insults and ill will. And at the end of the day, football is still just a game, not something to get worked up about on such a personal level.

My hope is that we see three more top years from Brady. That is the fan in me, however. The father in me says that if I were Brady, I would have retired last year to be with my family more.

You’re talking to the wrong guy. I’m not overly high on Jackson in the first place.

I wasn't referring specifically to Jackson, just saying that I don't think the front office should prioritize short term floor over long term ceiling.

With a little more time since my last post to process the knee-jerk emotional fan in me, I will say this:

A Patriots fan who complains about Tom Brady being a little bit selfish at the end of this unprecedented run of success, is like a person winning $500 million in the lottery then complaining about the taxes.

Listen Brady's playing this year. He just came off probably his best game ever in a super bowl which they lost. We will see what they do with the draft picks but you gotta be smart about it.
