Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

What is that argument?
That Belichick made a bad decision based off issues he had with Butler both talking about his contract and getting the flu believing he wasn’t all in and thought reconfiguring the defense would be more productive. He needed to be talked out of making the change against the Jaguars. Then made a hard decision after Butler got sick. In thinking he was removing a distraction he compromised a top 5 defense in points in the process. Then he handled it in a terrible way when communicating it to the team and had players on defense playing more than they played all year and out of their natural position and thought he could still win despite them getting torched and never moved back to the defense that got them there and ultimately lost.

With his actions he did. It's like blaming the judge for getting the Bubba treatment in jail.
No it’s not. Tell me EXACTLY what he did. Belichick could have put him in the game at any time. He DECIDED not to.

And no it’s nothing like a judge using ore established sentencing precedent to send a criminal that was convicted in a trial to jail.

Or Belichick misjudged the situation, he is capable of making mistakes. Like dismantling a top 5 defense and removing his most consistently played player and watching them get torched
If he thought Malcolm could help him win he would have played him.

Malcolm was not consistent in 2017. He admitted that.

He was consistent enough that Belichick played him more than any other defensive player. So did Belichick make the mistake before the Super Bowl when he was the most used part of a defense that was top 5 or completely unused in a defense that was breaking records for poor play in the Super Bowl?

We have no information that on that day, BB did or didn't make a mistake.

The only reason fans are still *****ing about this issue is because they lost.

No one is a better source than Amendola for confirming what many of us thought all along: that the incredibly bizarre benching lost us the game, or at least positioned us to lose it. Many non-Patriots fans believe this and many Pat fans do to, and Amendola now joins with us to make our belief stronger.

Respectfully disagree. There are a lot of better potential sources for information on this subject than Amendola, someone from the defense for instance. In fact his thoughts on what went down on the opposite side of the ball don't carry any more weight with me than Gostkowski's or Allen's would.

Yeah it’s sport the result dictates the reaction. You can’t seperate the two. If Belichick lost 5 more games his legacy and his decision making would be viewed completely differently. That the harsh cold nature of sports.

People aren’t wrong to say he was the most played player on a top 5 defense and then went on to be benched and that defense crapped the bed. You can argue the reasons, but it comes down to the decision and the result.

To say you are Pro BB is a understatement. In BB you trust he doesn't win those Championships without Brady and thats a fact. That said in the SB your Idol thought that Jordan Richards was a better player in that Pathetic Defense than Malcom Butler. I know the Majority of Patriots fans whether they want to admit or not disagreed. I haven't forgiven BB yet for that Blatant Blunder.

belichick made a big mistake, but he’s entitled to a pass. without his game plans, there’d be zero super bowl banners at Gillette.

So BB sat Butler over issues with a contract and the sniffles that's what you're going with?

We know he had the flu and we know he had been bringing up the contract all year. It’s more established and based in reality than Butler fighting with coaches or doing drugs

I don’t think many have a problem that Butler wasn’t starting, but to not give him a shot in the 2nd half was asinine. We had friggin P. Chung covering N. Agholor! In no ones dreams can Chung on Agholor be a better matchup then Butler covering him. Really still boggles the mind how the coaching staff f**ked that up. It’s no wonder guys like Amendola are still pissed.

He did.

And yes, victory would have made the massive screw up easier to let go, of course.

People are going to latch on to the decision and use that as the reason they lost because it is easy to do.

If BB felt he was the same player who was out there 98% of the time he would have started him.
