Mathieu can play safety, corner, slot corner, outside linebacker, can blitz and do many other things on defense.

Mathieu's "normal spot" is in the box at slot cornerback, despite his position being listed as safety. Last season, before he tore his right ACL, he played 519 of his 833 defensive snaps in the slot, with another 170 lined up as an outside linebacker.

When did these snaps take place? Linebackers on 3rd and 10 basically just have to cover. Linebackers on first and 10 have to be prepared to take on guards and fullbacks. There’s a big difference between Mathieu doing the former compared to the latter.

Interesting. For the same season (2015) up until early December, PFF has this to say:

"Overall, he has been on the field for 720 defensive snaps this season. Of those 720 snaps, 66.7 percent of them have been at cornerback (mostly slot), with just 24.4 percent at strong safety, and 8.9 percent at free safety."

No word about Outside Linebacker.

No he hasn’t. It is not documented because it did not happen. He is a db who in sub packages played db and lined up in the general vicinity of where a lb might line up, but he played the responsibilities of a db.
It’s not that hard to understand. 5’9 186 lb players don’t play lb in the nfl. Ever.

If I was in charge of the Lions (being from Detroit, I've probably said that a gazillion times, give or take), I'd have given Zenner a 2-year, ST-level deal, signed Murray, tried to trade Abdullah (for a 7th) and found an OL coach who can teach guys how to run-block for a change.
