Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

There's got to be something wrong with Bill where he gets a kick out of handing teams a championship. It's like he likes it when people say,"you could have won." I don't know, hard to figure out. This is as puzzling as giving away that game in Miami couple years ago by doing nothing but running the ball. Cost us homefield.

If that decision is one of 5, what were the other 4?

We can come back to this after BB retires from coaching. This one is definitely up with them because it sure as hell cost the team a superbowl win.

In 3 years no one other than people around here will even remember it. I challenge anyone to rewatch that game and watch our defense closely and conclude that Malcolm's presence would have resulted in a win. It wouldn't have. For crissakes, as I said to a friend yesterday, having Ty F###### Law at cornerback wouldn't have saved that game. Idiotic homer hysteria. We were beaten by a better team and we still would have been beaten by that team with Malcolm playing every snap.
you don't know that..one pass break up, one tackle short of a first down probably changes that game...they couldn't stop Brady

So you guys (and gals) think Butler would say anything different, he's a free agent, he's being smart to get a contract. If you still don't think anything happened, then I don't know what to tell you.
You may be right, however how easy do you think it would be to verify any of the “stories”, how hard do you think it would be to prove that police were involved, how hard do you think it would be to prove that he was at a concert? Or that he broke curfew? If he came out and lied about things that are easily proven than he would be hurting himself much more, as oppose to if he just kept his mouth shut.

I can’t take anyone seriously who thinks Ty Law wouldn’t have helped in the game.

Btw you’d be surprised what people remember 3 years from now

Yeah, nobody remembers the Seahawks throwing at the goal line, after all.
It mean please stop with your take.

Butler being in this game gives this defense the best chance to stop Philly, period.

The defense couldn’t play any worse, so the whole “Well Butler wouldn’t have helped anyway!” take is just lazy and wrong.

At worst, you lose in a similar fashion. At best, he helps make the stops necessary to give Brady that shot to win the game.

We already know the “at worst” scenario. The “at best” one was taken away from us because of Belichicks arrogance.
We differ in our opinions.

Bill doesn't name starters on a Tuesday

No but he should have seen Butler in practice on wednesday and Thursday. He had plenty of time before sunday at 6:30 to inform him. There was a reason that Butler was crying - it’s because the coaches kept him in the dark that they were thinking of benching him.

Didn't say it did (though there are several implications here, whatever the reason).

You said he "liked" the post. He did, and then he did more than that. He threw in with Butler - I doubt the coaches like that part, as THEY KNOW that it heightens the criticism they'll receive.

So many people here really don't get how this stuff works. I do. I work in entertainment. There are consequences to (even) "likes."

I didn't realize you were an "expert" of interpreting people's true meanings on social media. There are consequences to "likes" for people with low self-esteem and weak character because they actually put credence into that BS.

My Ty Law reference was the employment of a literary technique known as exaggeration for emphasis.

Personally, I think that BB's decision to bench Butler is going to end up in the top 5 worst football decisions he has ever made, on many levels.

I think it's possible this is in the top 5 of any coach's decision. This is up there with starting Rob Johnson over Doug Flutie.

NEWSFLASH!!!! Everyone already thinks that and BB doesn't give a sh!t what we think. It has worked out pretty well so far.
Well, except for Sunday. That's why it's kind of a big deal. Not just some regular season benching. Not just a snide remark. Not cutting a JAG on the eve of the Super Bowl or Milloy before the season. Those things "worked out well" because they were trivial by comparison.

My first post since before the SB.
This thread is full of mostly a lot of speculation, misinformation and personal agendas.
Not to mention some stuff that just ain't true.
According to Mike Reiss, who I'll trust above anyone else in the media,
a high-ranking Pats official(not BB) said it was known up to 2 days before the SB that Malcolm was not part of the defensive game plan.
He also said 2 Patriots captains also knew " well ahead of the game" that Malcolm wasn't playing defense.
So that shoots down all the bogus talk if this being a "last minute" thing.
The same Pats official said Malcolm had struggled all week at practice with what the Pats wanted him to do vs. the Eagles.
We also know Malcolm had been seriously ill, enough that he required an IV.
That's really all we know.
Malcolm and BB are not saying different things. It's a good possibility Butler was in a weakened state at practice after being sick. So BB and his staff decided they needed to go with different personnel.
That's really all we know.
I believe BB.
I also believe every word that Malcolm posted.
The 2 are not inconsistent with each other.
The only question left is why did BB not at least try Butler after halftime when everyone else was getting toasted. I don't know why.
But BB is the goat for a reason.
And he doesn't owe any us any kind of explanation.
I have probably been Butler's biggest supporter on this board and have butted heads with many of you who didn't view him the same way.
But I have no problem with anything BB did.
I also believe Malcolm did nothing wrong.
He's probably gone in free agency.
That's too bad. He had an off year but has proven himself as an All-Pro and Pro Bowl cb. I really believe if he somehow came back he and gilmore would become one of best tandems in the league.
But it is what it is.
But this thread is a joke. 125 pages wasted on gossip. I just posted to refute some inaccurate things some posted. And now I'm done with this ridiculous thread.

Not only that but if he's lying he's basically taking a gamble that no one is going to tell the 'truth'. If someone were to reveal something happened he'd look so much worse than if he had said nothing. Because then not only did he break rules and get himself benched but then he also lied about it and is now untrustworthy. There is no way Butler is lying about this. He'd be risking his free agency on everyone else keeping silent.

Butler is saying the exact same thing Bill is. Don't know why people refuse to believe what they are being told right from the horses mouth. But instead are sticking with rumors and innuendo being spread from third and fourth hand sources.

you don't know that..one pass break up, one tackle short of a first down probably changes that game...they couldn't stop Brady
You're right, I don't know with 100% certainty and you don't know the opposite with 100% certainty.

So TB12 supports Butler, what do the BB KoolAid crowd say about that? IS Brady a malcontent to?
I don't know if putting butler in would have won (maybe we would have) but im pretty sure BB is going to have a hard time controling the locker room after this. Even brady has come out in support of butler. there maybe a bigger turn over this year than usual
