Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

Oh I agree, I am not suggesting that he is an addict, but the only person that would be hitting the smack after having the flu would be an addict.

After 2014, there were two people on the Pats that I thought would never have to buy a drink in Boston. Brady and Butler. Brady showed why he belongs on that list but Butler never even got the chance. I just don't understand how he is worse than Richards or Badmosi. I just don't.

I like bademosi and would like to see him have a shot at rcb next year with a full camp. Some size, some range and a good tackler.

I also don’t equate weed with smack. Sorry. Geez.

I'm guessing Butler to Detroit, based on who their new coach will be.

So the Lions could obtain the most expensive special teams player ever? "Matt, we paid him 50 mil this offseason, why is he not on the field?" "Because they havent punted yet. Geez..."

um.. no.

The only reasonable explanation is that Butler did something bad enough to warrant it in Bill's eyes. I would speculate it is at least a 50/50 that we would agree if we knew the details..

If it was disciplinary, Butler wouldn't have been playing in the game at all. But he was playing on special teams. Short of throwing the game on purpose or early-onset dementia, there is no explanation for Bill's behavior.

I shouldn't feel awful about the loss. But I do..... Who knows, maybe if they had been blown out, it wouldn't hurt as bad.

I don’t know. In the 3 sb losses, i feel like they handed the game to the giants on a platter.

Philly was aggressive, foles was on fire throwing dimes, and pederson rolled the dice more than once, something more than most coaches ever do vs the pats.

Goober manning is seen as a hof qb because brady sort of sucked in sb 42 and sb 46.

What about butler’s behavior? Hmmm...seems kind of odd for him to be absolved here if he quietly was a prob, emp

When the actual truth comes out re: Butler please let me know.

As for losing the game, point after, missed field goal and stupid trick play and defense in general.

It wasn't a stupid trick play, it worked. The execution just wasn't there. There's nothing to ***** about regarding that call. As for the missed XP and field goal, that's four points in a game lost by eight. You obviously want those areas to be consistent in such a big game, but Philly missed an extra point, too. That's also a very nitpicky gripe.

The defense allowed 41 points and 538 yards, allowing 10-16 on 3rd down and 2-2 on 4th. To blame the loss on anything but the terrible defense is pointless.

What do you think the guys on offense think? Put up 600+ yards only to lose when defense allows scores on 8/10 drives. Seeing Butler standing there had to be like WTF?

that is silly. sure it could be discipline and he get one lousy snap on ST.. over your two thoughts? of course it was discipline.

pissed off I'm sure

IF ( Huge IF) Butler was caught with weed, I don't know what to think. Does that deserve a benching? Limited snaps? It's hard to judge.

In the SB, you're punishing the entire team.........he's gone after the game anyway.....benching him ONLY served to weaken the team as a whole

Chandler Jones staggered into a police station in his underwear.......still played

If he's a problem, let him go in the offseason. You do not handicap your own team in the Super Bowl to prove a point. Period. You really believe it's acceptable for Bill to screw over all the men on his team who sacrificed everything to make it that far, and the coaches, and Kraft because he was miffed at Butler?

Maybe but do you think Patricia had a hand in his benching?
Don't know, but there was a recent story about the love fest between Butler and Patricia.

Butler's play fell off this year and IMO he stopped taking coaching the same way he did when he made the team. It might be due in part to his feelings about his contract but I think being benched in the SB is mostly about his on-the-field play.

This is such lazy and unfair commenting. Butler was the STARTING CB from weeks 5 to week17 when they had the league's #1 scoring defense. So Butler clearly was a key piece since he was the starting CB and played 98% of the snaps. Don't try to push out some garbage narrative that the #1 scoring defense in the league, the Patriots defense, were doing this with a horrible starting CB. This defense was extremely weak, smoke and mirrors, in the front 7, and its secondary including Butler was the key reason they kept teams from scoring that much.
