Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

McCourty and other veterans say it was not a last minute.

We might find out over the spring.

This is way too big of a story.

Someone will unearth it.

Well someone forgot to tell Eric Rowe. Someone's obviously lying.

I actually think that Belichick should be on thin ice if the reason for Butler's benching is lame.

Unfortunately, it was probably lame. Anything real serious would have leaked. Drug use, a crime of any type, stuff like that would leak. It’s something dumb

Pat Chung the player who ran out of town similar to Butler just a few years ago?

Nobody held a clipboard for us like Jimmy Garoppolo - what amazing things he did for our franchise.

Gronkowski, well seeing as he had 12 picks in 2010 I’m glad he was able to get one player in the second round who was good.

The fact you have to go back almost 20 years for Matt Light speaks volumes to his success in the draft.

It’s not whining it is disappointment that one mans areogance cost a group of players and its entire fan base a chance at being the best team in the league.

Cherry picking draft picks to pretend Belichick isn’t building strong enough team’s is crybaby bullish.t.

Since you apparently know why Belichick benched Butler please share the reason with us?

You have to be kidding right? Did you, watch this game? Did they bench their #2 corner for some BS power trip? Went for and won every key down / trick play. Pathetic to defend any of this! TB suffers under this crap.
the eagles trick play was the SAME EXACT PLAY that patriots tried earlier in the game, Foles had an easier catch then brady did.

So nobody wants to hold Malcolm Butler accountable for his own actions?.

I think we as fans would hold Malcolm accountable if we knew what he did. As of right now BB says it was not a disciplinary issue.

I really wish we knew what the hell he did but I have to assume it was something. I'm just baffled otherwise..

Agree.

BB deserves his criticism unless/until we really know what Butler did and that is the only question that matters right now.

I kind of respect that BB made whatever decision he felt was right and will stick by it without throwing the player under the bus but god is it frustrating. And without knowing why makes it impossible to defend.

Agree. All we know is Malcolm said the team "gave up on him" and it was not related to dicipline.

You f'n kidding me? Did Pederson bench one of his starting corners for no apparent reason? Did Pederson ask a slow strong safety to cover a fast WR 1 on 1? Did Pederson play a DB who routinely sucks over a starter who is one of the best tacklers on the team? Did Pederson decide to start the game with his best tall CB not playing on the other teams great tall WR? And then wait way to long to make the switch?

Pederson showed a ton of guts which ended up making the difference in the game. Those 2 Philly 4th down conversions won them the game. The guys got a huge set.

Okay so pederson did one thing better then BB. i gets that equals "coaching circles" around someone now.

Link to this? I've seen the Rowe comments but not the McCourty.

Or maybe he was "just coasting" through practices, dogging it on a lot of reps or something?

Thats another aspect of this that might be lost in translation.

We all know the expectation of the coaches is everyone needs to prepare to play.

We know Malcolm took snaps just like everyone else.

What we don't know or is unclear is it standard practice to verbally tell players they are starting?

No, he shouldn't. It was a terrible coaching decision that he'll probably later admit to in a memoir or an interview, but he's still by far and away the best coach in the game.

You need to save that **** for someone else because Belichick winning is more of product of Tom Brady being the best player in the league for the better part of the last 2 decades than it is him. The fact is Belichick routinely gets out coached in Super Bowls and Brady has to pull out a game winning drive for us to win. We label Brady willing us to success in the second half halftime adjustments by Belichick. It is complete garbage if you take Brady off this team you have what you had in 2008 a decently coached team that will be a first round playoff team at best.

Brady would not be as successful without BB the same way BB would not be as successful without Brady. They feed off each other.

I think all signs point to it happening just before the game if you look at it logically. Butler crying on the sidelines prior to kick off and now this comment from Rowe. Who knows.

Ya Butler isn’t crying like that if he had known the deal that looks like a guy who was hit with some bull **** news

Yeah, how dare BB come up a strip fumble short of winning a third championship in 4 years. For ****s sake we didnt even make it to the SB in 2015. This is embarrassing. Amirite ?

Meanwhile Hue is 1-31...

thank you. you handled that way better than I was going to.

I'll be honest, I don't see the play that Butler would have definitely stopped. He's tenacious and unafraid, but he's on the short side for a #1 corner and he can get outmuscled by big receivers. the Eagles aren't a great matchup for what he is.

That's probably not why he was benched, but it is why I'm not sure that benching or not benching Butler is as pivotal as people seem to think it is.

I was going by what others on the board had said. I'm looking and I can't find a link...

He would have had better coverage on Agholor than either Chung or Richards did.
