ESPNews: Goodell issues statement: "Pats violated league policy"

Fact of the matter is, they got caught doing this against the Jets this week. Whatever else has been said are accusations. Nothing concrete, no investigation and nothing was ever decided by the league.

In the one game we did happen to violate the rule, it made no difference in the outcome.

We'll probably find out tomorrow that what the Pats are 'found guilty' of is having a camera on the sidelines. Well get a 10,000 dollar fine for having the camera and nobody connected with the NFL will ever utter a word about being fined for cheating or stealing signals.

That's my story and I'm sticking with it so I can sleep tonight!

i was ready to be ashamed but then i read what 1 of the refs said how he used to be a coach and then he guranteed it happens by everyone. including Jets.
Do you have a link by any chance ? That's the infuriating thing, somehow the Patriots need to get others' dirty laundry out there so that the focus gets to the actual wrong doing - this cheating thing is stupid. Especially with Peter King saying the Colts are one of the biggest sign stealers.

Re: ESPN NEWS just said Goodell...

so what is it?

for all you know BB has a grudge against Polian and the competition committee and is trying to make a point.

until somebody shows me how it is cheating, i reject the assertion we cheated.

we violated a rule. that's the extent of it until someone - anyone - shows otherwise.

Someone please show me the error in my thinking here. If I'm taking a test in school and I copy the answers from the guy sitting next to me simply by looking at his paper and that is not cheating, then why is it cheating if I take a picture of his paper and then copy the answers from the picture?

Actually, no.... YOURE team should be the last one. Ever heard of Harrison?..and now this. Not to mention prior stolen signal implication at Green Bay. You have absolutely nothing to say about Merriman anymore. You just trumped us, so thanks.

You're back?

After you've been proved wrong multiple times.

What a troll.

You were wrong about who this guy was (i.e. not on Jets' sideline.)

You were wrong about how the Miami Dolphins cheated against the Patriots last year.

And now you're about to get a beat down on Sunday badly in front of a national audience.

I'll do this line of thinking one better. If you take a picture of the guy next to you with a Polaroid camera, that may not be cheating. but if you use a digital camera, then that's cheating. The Dolphins got a hold of a tape produced by a local TV station, an iso-tape. The Patriots had one of their own guys produce the tape. What's the difference? Is it intent?

Well, I guess from now on the Patriots will have to put a media outlet on the payroll so they can cheat legally the way the Dolphins did.

I'll have to re-read it, I didn't get the ex coach part you referred to.

Hey Richter, you're not the only one, but you're the biggest proponent here of "what should be the rule," and how terrible the rule is, and how everybody does it, ad infinitum.

I did not notice you posting against this rule prior to this week's revelations.

Why the campaign now?

PFnV

I don't get it. You wanted him to castigate the rule prior to this week?

Huh?

Good post, logical. Now please one of you holier than thou hypocrites respond. I'm calling you out.

For those of you that think this is no big deal I would really encourage you to watch the next addition of Total Access on the NFL Network.

This story has only begun and there are alot of very upset people around the NFL. The Patriots were the cause of a memo to be sent out on this very thing to all NFL clubs. Goodell will not take this lightly.

The questions are only beginning.

How many games did this affect?

How many divisional titles did this affect?

Like it or not the Patriots credibility will be taking serious hits.

EXACTLY!! right on the button! The definition of cheating is
v. tr.
To deceive by trickery; swindle: cheated customers by overcharging them for purchases.
To deprive by trickery; defraud: cheated them of their land.
To mislead; fool: illusions that cheat the eye.
To elude; escape: cheat death.

v. intr.
To act dishonestly; practice fraud.
To violate rules deliberately, as in a game: was accused of cheating at cards.
Informal To be sexually unfaithful: cheat on a spouse.
Baseball To position oneself closer to a certain area than is normal or expected: The shortstop cheated toward second base.

n.
An act of cheating; a fraud or swindle.
One who cheats; a swindler.
A computer application, password, or disallowed technique used to advance to a higher skill level in a computer video game.
Law Fraudulent acquisition of another's property.
Botany An annual European species of brome grass (Bromus secalinus)

Both of you are idiots. When the Dolphins created a competitive imbalance last year by stealing signals, the NFL was fine with it.

Not sure how wide spread this is in the the NFL..In any case we are going to get creamed PW wise and thats a shame....BUT if the Comish wants to make an example out of the Pats, then I'd rather take a forfit and give the J-E-T-S the win and move on....
AND WIN 15 FREEEEEKIN GAMES IN A ROW !!!nuff said

I don't like it because the Patriots got caught. Other teams steal signals, no?

Everyones acting like the Patriots invented stealing signals. I have no proof but if you and everyone is really tyingto be honest then you have to and I mean have to conceed that the Pats have had signals stolen from them just like every other team and the league does to each other. We got caught with a camera and that may be the only difference. The Dolphins did it but used regular media footage. Same stealing, different method

LOL, you mean from people that are jealous and who can't stand losing to us.

Have you noticed that this board is littered by Chargers fans who are the most upset? LOL. I don't see any Lions or Packers fans here.

Move along, and stop being so jealous of our 3 rings. It's a silly way to go through life.

The thing that really irks me the most about this is how the Patriots apparently did it. It's like the Three Stooges. The league reminds teams that no camera's or recording equipment is allowed on the field/sidelines during a game. So Moe has a guy(Curly), dressed the same as Patriots coach's are dressed with a camera taking pictures of the Jets D coaches signalling in D calls. How stupid can they get? Was nobody going to notice this? The have guys making sure players socks look OK. They aren't going to see a guy with a camera? I don't really care if it was a small camera. It was dumb. I think all teams try to steal signals in some fashion, but do a better job hiding it. And if Curly hasd been caught doing it the same way against the Packers last year and maybe the Lions, too, why not change the way you do it? I'm not really bothered that they tried to do this. I'm bothered by how, IMO, stupid they look doing it.

Credibility? Smedibility, If they want to point their finger and call us the bad guys let's have some fun with it, let's celebrate for every touchdown. let's do the lights out dance constantly against the chargers if were up by alot let's keep throwing deep balls for scores.
Let's throw out some cheap shots only if were ahead by alot and let's give them a reason to hate the Patriots!

The basterds

With all due respect to Pats fans who don't think this is a big deal, pay attention to the momentum of animosity that is building around the league. PFT is reporting that Pats defensive players might have been wired. I just watched Adam Schefter's report on NFL Network....it doesn't look good.

I hope this doesn't become a distraction for your team this week. We want the Pats to be at their best Sunday night.

Good luck.
