ESPNews: Goodell issues statement: "Pats violated league policy"

This is not going to be good. This is going to hurt right down to the bone.

You are in the minority with this opinion, bro.

And I care why? The majority just wants to crap on a team they are jealous of, the majority of fans want any reason they can to tear down a successful franchise that they aren't fans of because that's the American way - if someone is better than you, don't venerate them, do whatever you can to take them down a peg to make yourself feel better. If you can honestly say that there is a moral difference between having a guy stand on the sidelines and steal signals and chart them and having a cameraman record them for later viewing, then I'd have to call you crazy.

Re: ESPN NEWS just said Goodell...

Who is saying it's going to be a few picks. I've heard all this speculation all day about picks but I've not seen it coming from anywhere credible.

You must be new here.

I think the only fair resolution would be to have the Patriots forfeit the game. How many times do you think they have done this in the past and not been caught? Send a message, reverse the win to a loss and give the Jets the win then that sures up that the Pats will never do this again.

Maybe if this was Little League. It's not. It's the NFL.

I can read just fine. You're like Michael Vick saying that it should be okay to soak dogs and electrocute them. All of your talk about that it should be okay is totally irrelevant.

Don't you DARE compare me to that dog killing piece of garbage. There is no comparison between doing something that is woven into the very fabric of a GAME, and murdering a defenseless, innocent animal. You are a joke, and your talk is what is irrelevant.

yeah, we'll do that as soon as you clue me in how videotaping signals gave the Patriots a competitive advantage in the Jets game. What did the videotape allow the Pats to do differently or better than the guys on the Jets sidelines and in their coaches booth who were breaking down the Pats signals? I'd really love to know.

Then every other team will have to forfeit as well because they all do it in their own way..the Patriots got caught violating a rule..that is all. Besides, losing a draft pick for a team that drafts as well as New England is punishment enough.

If you can convince me some dude with a camera was the reason Ellis Hobbs ran back a kickoff 108 yards I will agree with you. Until then I think you should worry about how the Fins lost to the Redskins.

If it didn't help, then why the hell would they do it?

Imagine that.

Sorry, I backed up my Goodell hatred in another thread and didn't bother to repeat. I think he will single-handedly ruin the image of this league with his overbearing punishments and this need to 'clean up' what was already the number one sport. Half the celebrated players we know -- LT, Namath, etc -- would be thrown out on their asses if Goodell was the Commish in their time. How would that have served NFL history? He'll cast a shadow on everything.

Gee, I thought it was the Patriots who brought integrity BACK to the league...go figure!

My guess is the punishment will be a hefty fine for the team and possibly the loss of a few weeks of pay for Belichick.

You would have made a good Nixon supporter: paranoia and self-righteous indignation and denial.

Morality would dictate that cheating is prohibited, period-- whether RG prohibited some certain type of cheating or not. Even if every other team cheats, that still makes us cheaters, too.

Actually, morality dictates that you do the right thing even when you are the only righteous person. What code of morality and ethics do you subscribe to?

Yes, morality does dictate that you do the right thing - and the right thing does not always equal the legal thing. Unless you are naive enough to believe that the law, or the rules of a league in this case, are infallible. But I don't think that's the case, you're just being intellectually dishonest because you want to trash the Patriots and you're a troll. You know damn well that the Patriots only did wrong by the letter of the law, not by the spirit of the game. Not that you'd ever admit it.

I guarantee on your children's lives they will not take away a win. Especially since their actions had zero outcome on sunday's game.

It's NOT cheating. There is NOTHING wrong about stealing signals - it's not even against the rules! The entire game is built on deception and misdirection, and deciphering the truth of your opponents intentions, and unless the spirit of the game truly ran counter to this, which it does not, it is not immoral. But you can't see that, you're too busy lobbing personal attacks for lack of a coherent argument.

If true, are we and football fans everywhere stupid enough to believe this isn't a more common thing?

Come on, this team seems to be nailed for everything lately. Oh well, it takes the pressure away from the team and how good they are supposed to be.

Especially considering this WAS legal just last year. It's not like it's even been categorized as cheating until now. So, what was not cheating last year, is now cheating this year...Ooooo such a lack of integrity & class.

Basically, what this means is that everyone was doing it last year and the Patriots still did it one game into the season...BIG DEAL!

So what do you guys think - will BB give his usual media stonewall on this or will he come out and level with all of us as to what actually happened? I think that he owes those of us who support the team and organization a little more than the usual nondescript bs that he feeds the mediots.

I'm a huge Pats fans but if they cheated - and it looked like they did - they should lose a 1st round pick.
