John Farrell fired by Red Sox

His time had come ... a new voice is needed to energize the fan base.
Just look at the amount of posts here about the Sox ... not many giving a crap that they were in or run out of the playoffs. So hopefully the person to energize going forward is available and accepts. As Dombrowski alluded to today ... not everyone wants to manage here.

The Saux issues have most to do with $100 million dollars of wasted salaries providing little to no benefit on the field and that has nothing to do with Farrell.
That being said.....this guy is a tedious wonk with a personality that most accountants would mock....and I couldn't imagine having to endure him on a daily basis.
As Icy P stated....it was time.

Out of those names, my top 3 in order are:
DeMarlo Hale, Gary DeCarcina & Brad Mills.

Torey Lovullo should've been named permanent FM here after the 2015 season. Now that ship has sailed.

The more I think about it, the more I agree with you.

Consider....this team won 93 games despite:
$18 mill... Fat Panda provided nothing
$20 mill Porcello....worst starter in baseball
$20 mill Hanley...... .240 hitter/little power
$30 mill Price......next to nothing/turned reliever
------------
$88 mill spent with little to no production to show for it....and still 93 wins....Farrell delivered.
This team did not impress me at all. So many games scoring little to no runs. So many lousy pitching efforts. Farrell had to win playing small ball without the pitching staff to make this strategy viable...yet they won 93.

Big Dave refused to offer an explanation of the firing which is telling. It can be argued that the Saux didn't want to go down the 'smear 'em out the door' highway again similar to the Francona departure....and they shouldn't.
Pointing out that the team regressed in many areas is fair game though, IMO.

My gut tells me the team stopped paying attention to Farrell, spurred on by a lack of respect by certain team leaders....and the front office wants to reestablish a sense of order. And they should.

Three successive managers that have been tuned out by the players. Hmmmmm.....any common denominators?

probably something nobody wants to talk about, but they need to decide what to do with Pedroia. He goes balls out every day but he has been hurt the last few seasons and when in there, does not seem to be the same player. i am sure i will look foolish when i look at his numbers this year, but at this point he is on the down slide imo.

Looking at Little Pedey's stats in recent years compared to his career, what is clear is that the diminutive one is no longer capable of taking advantage of the wall at Fenway. His home /away splits in terms of both doubles and HRs are nearly identical and completely underwhelming......9 Fenway doubles in '17.....4 Fenway HRs.
Did you know Pedroia has 15 triples in his entire CAREER. For a player with such quickness playing 2nd base, he has to be the slowest middle infield base runner in all of MLB.
The Saux issues are many and Pedroia isn't necessarily a primary negative in their lineup IMO. The bigger issue is the combined lack of production from their two middle infielders who deliver so little power in this new era of bombs away. Teams with ambition can live with one light hitting middle infielder but not two, especially when they are positioned at the front of the batting order.
Watching Pedroia in the batters box every night, I fully expect a 3 hop chopper to the left side and a double play with a man on base.
It will be interesting to see how Pedroia moves forward as a Saux. Part of me believes the guy will hang it up before the end of his contract based on self realization that his skills have diminished. On the other hand, he's a stubborn little bastard who may have to be pulled off the field against his will. Then there is his team friendly contract that certainly benefitted the club more than him....and he may say..."One way or the other, I'm going to get all that I'm owed."

how about never. whats so great about demarlo hale? if it were up to me i would go with gardenFire. i like his track record with the twins. yes i said gardenFire.

Cora was my #1 so I like the choice. Watching Cora on MLBN, the guy is impressive....great communicator, lots of energy, knowledgeable, with a little bit of old school vibe.
The big question is his ability to manage a pitching staff.
