The team/Tannehill really miscalculated this. Hindsight is 20/20, but the chances are generally slim to recover from a partial tear without reconstructive ACL surgery. Apparently they thought a superior athlete would have a better chance using stem cells and word-class rehabilitation, but it didn't work. I'm not sure if Tannehill would be ready to start the season had he undergone the surgery last December/January, but he may have.

Dolphins' Ryan Tannehill reportedly decides to have season-ending ACL surgery

That more or less ends Miami's playoff hopes, as slim as they might've been going into the season.

I don't blame Tannehill for wanting to try stemcells first. I'm not sure I could have been mad at him for trying if I were a dolphins fan.

Because of the timing, and normal down year after recovery, Tannehill is likely going to, in effect, lose 2 seasons. Miami may decide to just cut him loose.

Yeah, in hindsight he clearly made the wrong call, but it may have been the right call at the time with the information he had.

I'm starting to think his career is in jeopardy of ending sooner than later. As a fellow human, I feel bad. He recently said Miami was his team, but now that might be questionable.

Think they try to convince Cutler to stay in 2018 if they win at least 8 games this season?

I am too lazy to check their cap situation but they might become a player in the Cousins sweepstakes as well.

It all works out in our favor. Cutler's ceiling is known, as is Tannehill, and for that matter, Cousins too. All are capable of an occasional hot streak, but all are capable of long cold streaks too.

My best guess is that Cutler is a one-year experiment that fails, Tannehill gets the job back next year, but after a year and a half without playing football he'll be rusty and not able to get back to his previous highs, which in reality were pretty mediocre.

Having the surgery still in August he will be 100% for the next season.

That Sucks, I know some of you disagree but I'd rather have games be competitive and I really think that Jay Cutler is going to be very bad.

So we lock up AFC East in....week 5?

There but for the grace of God...

Speedy Recovery

A shame they will have an excuse to suck again this year.

Cutler apparently believes that he can sit on the couch all week and just show up for the game, and his career bears out that is the approach he has taken. I think he will get injured early and often and Moore will be their starter most of the season.

I was actually looking forward to the fish competing. That said I have no love for the 30.

How so? I'm having a hard time even calling him mediocre. Plug in any stiff backup and you get about the same results.
