Former Hawkeyes OL James Ferentz signs with Patriots

First, Kirk Firentz, then James' older brother Brian, who coached GRONK in 2011.

Also signed UDFA Sam Cotton, TE out of Nebraska, a team note for throwing the ball to a TE about once per game, on average.

Cotton is 6045/246. His 4.80/40 isn't very exciting, but he also posted a 35.5" vertical, 127" long jump, 4.24 shuttle and 6.87 3-cone.

I've never heard of a slot TE.

Yeah it was a poor joke about a TE having slot receiver 3 cone quickness, hence the Slot TE. But you're right. I forgot about that dude.

This guy Ferentz has almost 0 history and what is there is obtuse. Ex: All of the transaction news just refer to him as an OL, but he is technically listed as a CENTER (currently the WEAKEST DEPTH position on the Pats). I would think identifying him as a C would drive folks to discuss if he is just the emergency option or 2d string or ? But no one seems to be talking about him.

I can't seem to find any accurate snap count data or what type of plays he was in on (offense or STs). Supposedly he was active for 15 games in DeN in 2015 and I think 3 games in 2016.

So does anyone know when in Denver, was he in to snap-offense, long-snap-SpTms, or extra lineman blocking/no center duties?

It sounds like a guy who went from PS (Hou) to playing (den) 15 games to playing 3 with a very minuscule snap count, is on a downward glide path and is likely just scrub camp competition. But of course with Saint Scar ('miracle worker'), you never know what may result.

Anybody know anything about this guy??
