I heard this discussion on the Adam Jones show yesterday.

He made some valid points;

1. Brady will be traded before he declines
2. Pats kept JG for a reason (he's the future)
3. Manning and Montana were traded once their teams found their next guy
4. Pats can get value for Brady in 2018

I'm the first one to think "We can't ever trade Brady!" And I don't want to see him traded.

But the reality is he likely will be traded if Kraft and BB believe Jimmy G is that good.

I can't disagree with anything said here. Would I LIKE to see Brady play until 2020? Sure. But at some point, we fans need to also start thinking like business folks and look at the reality of the situation. At some point, he isn't going to be here anymore.

Better to walk away on your own terms, then to do a Favre and keep begging for a chance to play with some team, any team.

I just never want to see this:

With Bill B NOTHING is impossible. I have felt for some time that it's very possible TB will end his career elsewhere. Hell, even he has publicly acknowledged that possibility. Now, whether he's traded or leaves on his own, I'm not sure. I can easily envision scenarios in which either could occur. I won't like it, but...

Unfortunately I'm becoming more and more convinced that this is probably Brady's last year as a Patriot. I hate it but I feel the writing is on the wall unless Kraft personally steps in.

He looks as in good a shape as he ever has unless he has some unforseen injury or setback I have to believe they ride with Brady.
I cant bet against the man.
Plus this is unknown waters has their ever been a QB who takes care of his body this well,?
Shows no signs of declining has a unmatched desire to play is in a league that frowns on taking shots on the QB.
It would be hilarious to watch Tom dominate the sport in his late 40s.
However he has kids a model wife tons of money and a potential young stud QB the team seems high on.
It's a great but awful position to be in.
However if they would ever trade the legend I hope they would do him the decency to make it San Fran.
Toms team and far out of our division.
No Brady in a AFC jersey ever please.
Drew in a Bills jersey still looks weird.
Anyhow if Brady plays lights out and has no injuries or signs of slowing down this season there's no guarantee what happens next season.
My hope if Tom leaves when he knows it's time.
Wins the Lombardi next season goes out on too and a Patriot.

No significant decline yet if anything he has gotten better each passing season. The last images we have of the previous season, is Brady leading the biggest comeback and having the greatest game in SB history. I know BB likes to get rid of players a year earlier when value is still great, but this is TB12 the greatest player in NFL history. Jimmy G got injured 2 games in as a starter that's more concerning than Brady's age. What if Brady is winning and having elite years for 2-3 more seasons with his new team and Jimmy G ends up being injury prone with Brisett still not ready? My opinion is don't get rid of the GOAT at least not until you see some sort of noticeable decline because even a 75% of TB12 is better than most QBs in the league.

I personally believe yes, this is Brady's final year with us. It's potentially 2-5 more years of elite QB play vs. potentially 10+ years of elite QB play, from a business value you'd obviously go with the latter.

That's not to say Garropolo is better though, not at all. What Brady is doing at age 40 is absolutely incredible and it is difficult to say that Garropolo is at least 80% as good as Brady without a bigger sample size. However, considering that Belichick raved about Garropolo and the fact that Belichick didn't trade Garropolo despite approaches from Cleveland, it does seem to suggest that Garropolo will be a Patriot for the next couple of years (barring a Herschel Walker-esque offer). And we won't be paying two QBs a combined $30+ million a year.

BB is all about getting value. If Brady is willing to let his salary decline as he keeps getting older, he can play here for a long time. Usually the wrinkle in the works is that other teams are willing to offer the veteran more $ than BB is and hence people finish their careers elsewhere, like Wilford, McGinest, Vrabel, Welker etc. If all these people had been willing to take lower salary, like Bruschi did, then they could finish their careers here too. I think Tom has shown willingness to let his salary and cap number remain manageable relevant to performance and expectations of Kraft and BB. Tom probably wisely realizes that by being in a competitive team he will likely retain higher earning potential from endorsements than to quibble on his salary with Pats. I think the relationship will remain fruitful. I think Tom will keep wanting to play for 4-5 more years, and I expect him to keep restructuring etc to lower his charge as a % of overall cap (if overall cap rises fast, you might even see his salary stay flat).

I would LOVE for Brady to be SuperBowl MVP with us in 2032. It means we won many more Superbowls and Brady kept playing at a high level for 15 more years!!

Two golden rules of Patriots fandom are in conflict here

1: In Bill We Trust
2: Never Count Brady Out

Interesting to see which fans default in favor of which rule.

Personally if I had to choose between the two, I'm a Belichick guy. Sun Tzu said it best, battles are won and lost before they are fought. Bill wins the battles before the games happen. His supremely capable field commander helps this to happen, but the master plan is Belichick's and he's proven he can win with someone else.

That being the case, I would hate to see Brady go, but it's nearly the end of the road for him anyway with at most 2-3 more great seasons in him after the point at which we need to choose between Brady and Jimmy G in 1-2 seasons, this is true no matter how well he takes care of himself, and I am 100% confident Belichick has no intention of riding Brady into the ground when he can hitch his wagon to a rising star instead.

Or to put it this way -- if you have to choose between 2 more years of transcendental quarterbacking and at least 1 more Superbowl ring making the playoffs consistently for the next 8, I know which one Mr. Kraft is going to prefer as playoffs are where the money happens. I think Garoppolo can put us into the playoffs far more years than not, especially with Bill's brain trust behind him. I think we'll miss Brady's flair IN those playoffs though, and it's going to be a tough pill to swallow if we go one-and-done in the first two post-Brady campaigns. But transitions are like that.

I think Brady will retire before playing with another team. His wife was (according to him) asking him to retire after this last championship run.

It really depends how he plays. I have done out the math before in another thread and it is fairly clear on this matter.

Assuming JAG is anything but an elite QB (By elite I mean somewhere in the skill range of Brees/Rodgers/Manning/Ben R.) and Brady shows he likely will be elite next year and very likely beyond by showing no decline then you keep Brady.

That is cause if you go by pure odds of winning a SB (the only thing that matters) 1 year of elite QB play gives you at minimum 5 times better odds to win than even very good QB play (and even less if lower). This means assuming Brady plays 2-3 years of elite football after this year and assuming JAG is the next level down (and not lower which he could be very easily) you are better off keeping Brady if your goal is to win as many championships as possible.

So you trade Brady only if at least 1 of the 2 is true from a logic stand point.

#1 If you think JAG will be an elite legit HOF type QB you keep him and trade Brady.
#2 If you think Brady won't play like a elite legit HOF type QB again or just 1 more year after this one.

Anything else if your goal is to win the most SBs you can the odds say keep Brady.

Found it my thread.

Why maximizing Brady's run is so important

All the information is here with numbers to back up the arguments.

Anytime I heard Adam Jones talk the Pats, he was always looking for the turd in the soup bowl. Never had a positive spin at all. I only listened on late drives home when the other choice was Mike Adams.o_O

Does anyone know what team is his that the Pats have embarrassed repeatedly over the years?

I think there's a distinct possibility that the Brady camp has reached out quietly to Belichick and his crew and let them know that he's considering hanging up his cleats and that's why we still have Jimmy G.
