Building the Patriots Big Board: Runningback

I like him but apparently not as much as most which is fine.

He runs through a lot of clean, big holes. Im not looking for physicality for the sake, just pointing out this isn't someone who will create for themselves.

You draft him for size/speed. He can break arm tackles and take it for a big gain. That's his yac and that part of his game will translate.

Carson has really poor agility though (7.53) but for late round / UDFA, he is a nice body to bring into camp. His explosion numbers (37" VJ and 10"10" BJ) show that he is not merely just a plodder but more of a battering ram. DraftBreakdown feature 3 of his games.

Normally that would be a big red flag, but for his running style, I don't care about the 3-cone numbers for once. He's a one-cut runner exclusively, and he's actually pretty good at making the first person miss. His singular change of direction is quite solid. He's not going to look like Dion Lewis, with multiple cuts and dodges, but he does a great job of one getting upfield and changing angles once. He also has a lot of experience in the passing game. I think he could easily replace Bolden.

Love that you had leshun Daniels listed. He is rocked up, but gas impressive movement skills to go with his size.

For perspective, he put up almost identical pro day to Dion Lewis, but 30lbs heavier.
How come I've never heard of this kid he looks like our kind of back.

Keep in mind that there are literally thousands of college football seniors, but only around ~ 250 draft slots. That's why every year we get surprised by UDFAs who go on to do great things. I know the top 500 - 700 players, most years, based on consensus boards, and I still don't know every player who gets drafted, let alone a camp invite. It's just impossible for one person to track.

Fun player to watch though:

First off, at some point we should probably draft some guys from that OL.

WRT Daniels himself ...

Built like a brick sh*thouse - CHECK
Good vision, burst - CHECK
Decent agility, but no dancing - CHECK
Decent long speed - CHECK
Generally carries high-and-tight, covers up over-and-under into contact - CHECK

OTOH, that looks like a man/power blocking scheme more than zone. Easier for an RB to know where the hole will be in man/power blocking and to hit it hard. Can be tough for RBs to adjust to having to anticipate where the hole will open (before it does) in zone blocking.
