Almost all the decisions have been made. Health is likely to be the deciding factor on the last couple of decisions to be made.

WE CARRIED 7 D LINEMAN LAST YEAR I WOULD ASSUME THATS NOT GOING TO CHANGE, WITH 6 ,IF A COUPLE GUYS GET DINGED UP YOUR REALLY THIN, ITS TO IMPORTANT OF A POSITION TO LEAVE AT 6

Maybe it's me but I see 7 DL listed

I like it, personally I would remove Vinnie T. and replace him with one of the final cuts:
- take your pick of Washington, Caldwell, Kight, Rogers, Chad Brown, Baker, Mitchell, Mills, James, Wesley, Rivers, Mays
OR
- I find a backup RB from the waiver wire.

If Vinnie goes to the shadow roster I wonder who our emergency QB will be... last year it was Troy Brown.

Unless Cassie is injured and can't play game 1, it makes little sense to put Vinnie on the 53. Keep a developmental player, a Richardson, a Rogers, whatever.

How about Asante Samuel? I also think we will be watching the waiver wire for running backs, or even offering a 6th rounder.

My money's on Mike Vrabel. Apparently he was doing a good job impersonating QBs yesterday.

I still believe strongly that there's almost no chance we keep just 5 WRs. 6, in my book.

You really mean 8. We will have two on the PUP list. That doesn't count Childress or Kight who are likely to be on the Practice Squad or on speeddial.

You didn't list the "Shadow Roster" eligible players. The fact that these players can safely sit there and not go to another team makes the Team very deep, and able to carry a couple of more youngsters that need development. They are:

Vinny Testaverde QB
Josh Miller P
Artrell Hawkins DB
Larry Izzo ST/LB
Chad Brown OLB
Corey Dillon RB
Gene Mruczkowski G/C

Troy Brown WR/CB PUP for first six
Chad Jackson WR PUP probably for nine and IR
Eddie Jackson CB PUP
Dwayne Thomas TE PUP

That is a team that is 11 palyers deeper than the standard 53 plus 8 PS. In addition, we have two more already on IR. The Team can be as deep as 71 players, all of whom have NFL talent.

A query for you. If Belichick chose to place all the players eligible for the Shadow Roster on it; what woud the Team look like then?

Izzo is active in every game. It is silly to think of him on a Shadow Roster. In any case, Izzo would be on someone's roster within 24 hours. He is certainly a better special teamer than the bottom player on almost any roster (including ours), certainly at least one.

I don't list Shadow Roster players or Practice Squad players for a reason. We have no more rights to activate them to the active roster than does the jets. Of course the IR players and the PUP list is a different story. the PUP players could be important in this year's playoff run, especially DAVE Thomas.

MG,

What changes would you make to your roster if Seymour starts the year on the PUP?

Also does anyone think Rashad Moore has any shot as a backup NT? At first I thought it made sense but know I see it as a wasted roster spot. In a worst case Warren, Seymour and Wright could create a rotation.

There is exactly zero chance of Seymour ending on the PUP list. Even we thought he wouldn't be ready until Game 4 or 5, we'd use up the roster spot.

But in answer to your question, I'd keep Moore.

MG,

It's unfortunate Moss and Stallworth have both missed so much pre-season time due to injury... I think this means we have no choice but to hold onto both Caldwell and Gaffney, given the fact that they are the only two WRs with established timing and experience with Brady.

I think they'd be especially sought after by other teams, and they might be expendable if Moss and Stallworth had seen more pre-season time with Brady but its more important that we go into the season with the best WR corps available.

I'd say Washington is a trade or a cut given his contract. Some (Reiss) think Gaffney's contract is too expensive for a #4 or #5 WR at $1.5 million but I don't veiw that as overly expensive given the depth he gives us - i.e. a bonifide #3 or even #2 WR for that amount of money.

Dona't forget Gaffney is hurt with another undisclosed injury (knee apparently). Return is unknown. The two top TC WRs are both out (Moss, Gaffney). Moss appears able to return in the near furture but Gaff is unknown. Don't forget Bam. Our return situtaion is still unsettled and he has been among them, while being more consistent throughout camp at WR than Washington.

Moss, Stallworth and Welker will be active and IMHO should receive almost all the wide receiver reps in the first couple of games, whether or not their timing is perfectly in synch with Tom's. I would expect to see all the tight ends and all the running backs active.

I think the question is which ONE additional receiver should we have active for Game 1 and Game 2. Your answer seems to be Caldwell. Mine is Washington. You seem to think that Brady will want Caldwell active because he can count on him. I think that Brady would rather count on Moss, Stallworth and Welker. I would have Washington active to play special teams, and to be available in case of injuries. In four and five wr sets, Watson and/or Faulk would be receivers, as in the past.

We also need to decide what additional receivers need to be on the roster in case of injuries later in the year. Your answer seems to be Gaffney. I agree.

We both seem to think five wide receivers plus two on the PUP list plus perhaps one or two on the Practice Squad is sufficient. And ther's always a receiver or two available on scotty's speedial list.

While I think Caldwell needed FAR too much time to adjust to our routes and schemes last year, that experience did show that, yes, WRs do need time to adjust to and learn the tendencies of their QBs (and vice versa).

(By comparison it seemed to me that even after joining the Seahawks late, Branch seemed to pick up the offense and adjust quicker than Caldwell - even though Caldwell had a full pre-season).

All that being said I think Caldwell is a bit of a safety net on the depth chart given a year of experience with Brady - as opposed to Washington, who has more upside.

Timing is more important IMO for deep route WRs so I think there is going to be some additional adjustment time for Moss and Stallworth - hopefully they can catch a few deep passes enough to keep defenses honest until they are fully up to speed - otherwise I think we'll see the same type of pressure we saw last season and in the Titans game last week.

While I predict Caldwell as being retained ultimately I'm fine with whoever the team decides to keep at that spot. Again, my lament is the fact that given injuries and the lack of pre-season playing time of the WRs that we don't have the luxury of being as deep as I would have liked, and that ultimately you were right - that it's looking like injuries make a trade of a WR unlikely.
