Today was great news for John Farrell haters .... eh ... I think he's good enough and it's all about talent anyways.

i think farrell suks. i cant stand to listen to him speak. the sox should have fired his ass and made Torey Lovullo the manager

We gave up all of our best prospects (except Devers and Groome). Sale is great though. Still an overpay when combining both trades and players involved.

I'll take it ... so hard to get a pitcher of Sale's talent ... he's locked up for 3 more years so we have our top 3 pitchers locked up ... that's very worth it.
Would love to see how Moncada developed but you have to give to get ... Basabe is one of the other players ... very raw 20 year old and some pitcher Diaz who will be bullpen fodder.

also we've lost Ortiz ... and we're not replacing him for next year so we needed more pitching.

Douchebags Felger and Mazz talking about Sale cutting the shirts ... losers.

I'll never argue with building a strong rotation and pen so I'm reasonably pleased with the recent Red Sox moves. Scoring runs isn't the problem, shutting other teams down is. You need pitching talent to do that and the Sox are collecting said talent.

Absolutely ... the goal is to beat the Cubs and the World Series goes through them so the team needs to be built to get there and beat them.

Ok, who is the 5th starter for the Sox? Yikes, what a staff!

wow. you knew DD would deplete the farm soon enough, but getting Sale was great. The only part of this i do not like is the Sox are paying the rest of Moncada's $31M. I think that is a bunch of crap but we have a deadly rotation and bullpen now.

Love the trade. Elite starting rotation and good bullpen. Good defense.
Some risk that it looks like Sandoval is the starter at 3B, but that's what they are paying him for.
Sox will be hard to score on. Starting three of Sale, Porcello, Price. Getting Carson Smith back, good closer, an upgrade in Thornburg, and plenty of current starters available for relief.

They won't win as many double A games, and who cares.

Holy Crap.. did not see all of this coming when I heard about Thornburg was pleased.. then Sale and then Mooreland.. great haul.

Might be able to watch a whole game again..

Sandoval is reportedly thin again..

There will be more moves made...

Dombrowski does not seem to be a "prospect guy"... their young outfield is still intact.

Out and about yesterday and happened to be listening to Felger whine about what will happen 10 years from now and how Dombrowski mortgaged the farm..

Switched the channel..

they act like the redsox aren't going to have a draft again. DD knows how to draft too. he has a long history of success going back to the marlins. and they didnt lose any picks.

A lot of the talent was blocked. There is a nice window the next 4 years. We probably can't sign all the young players as it stands. Bogaerts, Betts, Bradley, will all be FA about the same time. But we have a young outfield (with Young and Sweihart coming back, the only age on the team is at 2nd base amd 3 base.

Remember we also have the 8th inning guy from last year coming back from injury, Kelly looks like he fits well in the BP, Perhaps Pomerantz becomes a BP are and spot starter?

Will be fun next year.

We're losing the production of the selfish egomaniac Ortiz, so we need…more pitching?

You make the trade because there is a great chance your playing in a World Series. Versus, waiting and hoping all the positions are good for a chance to be in the World Series. Also, who is to say we don't land one of these guys as a free agent down the road.

I like the sale trade. but I'm not sure they are going to the world series. people assume Porcello will pitch the way he did this year. i remember how he pitched the previous year. it wouldn't surprise me to see some of the RedSox take a step back. a lot of them had career years last year. I don't think its realistic to expect all of them to have the same production.
