Report: surgery for Gronk

Except why the hell were they sending a 265 pound TE who was recovering from a puntured lung and couldn't even get on a plane 8 days earlier twice on long bomb patterns? It was nonsensical. BTW, one of those two plays was the same type of fly pattern he reinjured his elbow a few years ago. "Hey, let's send him out on fly patterns and watch the guy crash". It's a bit foolish twice now when he is just coming off injury. It's not like he is a WR. The dude falls like a ton of bricks. Play with fire and you get burned.

Exactly!

Well brady's gonna have to spread the ball around. It wouldn't be as terrible if w knew our defense could get stops.

In fairness, the defense has made some improvements the past two games, generating turnovers and getting stops when needed, especially late in the Jets game.

Tell me what tight end aside from Bennett is currently on the roster who is just as good as Derby or better.

Didn't think so.

Derby is a TE in name only. In reality he is a big body WR and we have enough WRs on our roster. The real loss as others have pointed out will be in the run game because we will be easier to matchup against, which is why keeping Lewis healthy is now paramount.

Well, crap! If only TFB knew how to run a spread offense.

Oh, yeah.......

Live or die with gronk by sending him on a deep pattern. He has been injury prone.

Are you saying Derby as a blocker is useless?

I hope we dont see the effect of this on the oline. Bennett has been huge part of the blocking and with gronk in , his #s went down because pats could use gronk off the line. Now if they move bennett out who knows how it effects the oline.

Cheesh! It's page 13 of the thread.

Why am I the first to post a big Thank You to Gronk for all he's given the team and us fans, especially when he's playing hurt? I wish him a full recovery that allows him to return to playing the game at a high level again or at least to a normal life after football if this proves to be a "surgery too far."

The Pats are clearly a different team without him and we can't pretend otherwise, but all of this whining is kind of pathetic.

So he was just afraid of flying 8 days earlier?

Is it that hard to believe that there were two separate injuries? That he hurt his chest in Seattle and hurt his back against NY?

That said, ultimately (depending on where it is in the back), I wouldn't be surprised if they were related. That is to say, his back slipped when he fell against the Jets, but that only happened because his chest was still swollen and his back would have been fine if there was no other swelling around it.

Do we know that he's definitely done for 2 months? Some people heal quickly, and if so, it would be BIG getting him back for the divisional or AFCCG. Two months from tomorrow is January 27, a few days before the super bowl.

I don't understand your issue here. If a player gets cleared by the medical staff there is no reason not to send him out on a deep route. If this happened on a collision on one of those infamous seam routes I would be more inclined to agree with your point.

This could have happened as easily on any block or wham play later on.

No more blocking for bennett. Someone has to block. Hope bennett can be a factor. He doesn't have to be gronk. Just give us a target.
