OT: Tyrann Mathieu Extended

They must feel good about his chances and/or how he's looking to lock him up now as opposed to waiting.

I don't think them deciding to extend him to has anything to do if he will be ready week 1. He will obviously play this year and they obviously think he can bounce back because he already did when he tore his ACL and LCL in 2013

It's kind of like extending Gronk, obviously he's not on Gronk's level in-terms of All Time Great. But you aren't going to let 2 injuries stop you from keeping a great player. Especially when they've shown they can bounce back from injuries and play at a high level.

Okay. True.

Somewhat relevant since we'll face the Bird Gang Week 1...without our true field general. He'll probably see time against both TE's.
He tore his ACL late last regular season so I think he's on PUP now as he rehabs. There's a slight possibility that he won't be on the field week 1 also. If he does play though, would a 5'9 guy really have a chance of covering Gronk?

Good for him, he should take week 1 off and enjoy his money.

Yeah, I forgot it happened so late. And nobody has a chance against Gronk, unless they're rolling out a 23-year-old Shaq. Lol

Good point lol. I feel sorry for Chung and the other boys trying to cover him in camp.
Not me but only because it can only make our boys better. Every other TE in the league should be pie after having to go against Gronk all summer.

If the Pats were to give Gronk the same deal as Mathieu they would lose cap space all six years of the deal.

Miguel, how do you see a new deal being structured, especially if it really is to free up monies to sign the Big 3 (possibly Big 4 if you include Sheard)? And based on what you know (and I know things can rapidly change), is there any way the Pats can realistically lock up the big names AND Bennett and/or Knighton if they play well?

Kid had 'question marks' during the draft, didn't he?

Sure turned into one hell of a leader.

Yeah, major character concerns given that he was kicked off of LSU's team. Between him and Marcus Peters, I'm looking forward to a decade of teams ignoring these types of concerns going forward.

Yeah. And they'll have to considering college players are only becoming more and more "entitled." We have freshmen Gators who are already in trouble here in Gainesville. It's ridiculous.

this UF LB did something great. then again, he was a walk-on, so probably not too entitled.

UF football player, co-worker intervened to end rape
Thanks for posting this. I feel players like this are becoming fewer and more far between sadly. He obviously has a different appreciation for being in his position. Walking on at UF, even though they have not been as dominant in recent years, is still extremely difficult.

This is good news for Eric Berry.

I view him more as a corner than a safety since the Cards play in Nickel most of the time. He's a top 5 cover guy. This is a great value signing for the Cards

Don't see how a deal that would increase Gronk's cash intake by 10 to 30 million will also lower his cap hit all four remaining years of his deal

AZ is saying they feel good about Mathieu being good to go for week one.

My wife and I are watching All or Nothing right now. Mathieu seems to have found the right environment to allow his skills to flourish. Good for him on the payday.

Also, as an aside, although the Cardinals come across as a likeable and earnest organization, the level of coaching is pretty basic. BB can run circles around BA before he's even had breakfast. Patriots are a deeper, smarter, better prepared team.
i just binge-watched the series over the weekend. i agree, the cardinals seem like they have a good lockerroom and steve keim and michael bidwell seem like a good GM and owner, but the coaching seemed more rah-rah than teaching players about the fundamentals, technique, and situational football. maybe NFL films just decided not to show those parts.
