Chad Brown possibly back? Per Agent...

I'd rather have Charlie Brown of peanuts fame on this team than an old washed up beatup guy like Chad.

Are we really that desperate at LB, even for pocket change?

Why don't we just bring back Monty Beisel too by trading Bruschi to the Cardinals in exchange, makes as much sense as signing a worthless aged LB.

I would rather see Roman Phifer come out of retirement and back on the team,He was great here and I bet hes still in top condition.

I agree...Chad Brown cannot get out of his own way.

Is he really better than anyone else on the roster right now? Maybe he would provide some TC competition but I can't see him beating any LB that is on the team now for a spot on the final roster. I thought the first time around was enough.

I'm not doing cartwheels about this, but if Brown did make the final 53, what does that say about some of the LB's now on the roster?

We were having a *Football* conversation here. What happened?

I think that when Brown was actually being useful for the Pats he was a 3rd down only specialist used to either cover a TE/RB or used to rush the passer. Seeing that Vrabel/Thomas/Colvin can all pass rush, what would his role be? I guess he would be just depth and maybe he can play ST? What does he bring to the party that is better than one of the kids?

Well, assuming that Alexander/Woods or another younger player doesn't make a compelling case for playing time, the Patriots are thin at inside linebacker with just Bruschi and Seau, so Thomas and/or Vrabel will have to take some of that load. In that case, there would be a place for an OLB across from Colvin on some downs at least.

Signing another linebacker for depth makes a lot of sense to me -- whether it should be Chad Brown is another matter.

A cursory examination of those lists shows me that the only possible UFA candidates who fit the 3-4 OLB size requirements of the NEP might be Carlos Emmons (durability issues), Grant Irons (back issues) and Nick Speegle (talent issues). In other words, this particular cupboard's pretty bare. If anyone thinks that I missed someone, let us know.

I suppose that Chad Brown could possibly serve as mentor/competition to Pierre Woods and Justin Rogers. Nothing wrong with that; however, I am still hoping against hope that the FO addresses the need at ILB. There are still several qualified candidates available, starting with Isaiah Kacyvenski.

There's a need at ILB? The starters are pretty set in stone. I don't believe there's an ability to upgrade from the current FAs with Mays, Alexander, Lua waiting in the wings.

Chad Brown would probably make a good LB's assistant coach, so why not keep him around and let him compete for a job?

Back in his heyday Chad was a 3 time Pro-Bowler. Having him in TC hurts us how?

Let's see, Chad was playing alongside Beisel, he was playing behind a struggling Wilfork who didn't get his head right until much later, they lost Sey for a few games in that stretch...plus the new system/out of position arguments.

Chad's re-signing would be insurance, anyone telling me the kids on the roster look better than he does wasn't watching too closely when those kids got late game reps. I believe there's room on the roster to sign him for TC and not lose one of the young kids trying to make the league. Of course this could just be an agent playing one club against another too.

Hate to flip flop with you on this one, but i think we're set for senior citizen LBs this year if Jr.s healthy. Why impede the progress of one of our youngsters?

Let him play in camp, but if everyone looks good, cut him. Good, if old, 5 man rotation and I would like to see a youngster fight for some PT while kicking butt on special teams.

I think Brown can hang around in shape in case of injuries.

I don't think any team in the league would put him on the 53 at this stage.

What does previous Pro Bowl accomplishments mean in today's NFL? - Squat

Hell, Andre Tippett was in even more pro bowls than Chad - I don't want Andre as a LB on this 2007 team either

Yet I wouldn't have a problem inviting him to camp if he wanted to attend and try to make the team. But I do have to draw the line at Ray Nitchske.

Please no! What a washed up player, him and Beisel never fit into our system, we still just have to cut our losses on them....

Chad Brown was a failure at ILB. He is certainly worth having in camp as insurance against injuries. Personally, I think it likely that he'd beat out Woods.

I hope he makes it. He went through a lot in 05, as did the entire defense. I liked the way he handled himself that year. Good luck, Chad.
