I wouldn't.

If they're looking for a first (highly doubt they get that much back) I'll just wait until next year. More than likely will be a much deeper draft.

Trading a player for the 22nd pick, and not picking until 29 is bad value.

Not if you want to trade him and your only other option is trading him to a team in the early 2nd.

Would the following be legal? The Pats arrange a trade in advance with another team. The team picks a player whom the Pats want in the first round. After the pick, the teams trade that player for Garoppolo.

Not that I want them to trade Garoppolo, but it would be the most massive GFY to the League I could think of.

I'm not going to get my hopes up but trading JG makes sense for everyone. I'm sure he's getting tired of not playing, we know our draft situation and this year's draft group at QB isn't exactly star studded.

If we could get no less than Houston's #2 and Hoyer (we'd need a backup) I'd be interested but would really like to add a conditional 2017 pick also.

It would be legal but Miguel tweeted that it wouldn't be doable do to the rookie pool. Here was his response when asked about the chances of it :

CapSpace=$13,638,036 ?@patscap Feb 27
None. Player would not then fit in the Patriots rookie pool

This was the question :

@patscap any likelihood the Pats trade late round picks to a team, with the agreement being they draft a certain player for NE in the 1st rd

If BB got a second round pick for JG he would likely draft a QB with it. The Pats would be poorer to do so assuming JG has been a good student so far.

Interesting.

I don't understand the rookie pool, but it makes it sound as though a team that traded its first and second round picks next year for an extra first round pick this year (common in the past) wouldn't now be able to do that.

The pool is determined after a team's picks have been made (and is based on where that team picked and the salary slot for those positions). So a team with extra firsts in a draft would end up with a higher pool, AFTER making their picks.

I still wouldnt do it.

From the little we've seen of Jimmy, ive really liked. If the FO feels at any way hes good enough to be the heir to Brady. That's worth way more then a second rd pick in a below average draft.

Only if they can maximize the return of course.

goes without saying....but if you consider

DE is easier to replace and we already have sheard to step right in.......drafting a DE in the 2nd and having jones' cap space provides better value even if we only get a 3rd rounder for him

I like Jones, but if he's not going to get top dollar from the pats, then he is gone after next year then moving him now and realizing the return sooner than getting a comp pick in 2018

I don't think they should trade garoppolo, but in theory, if you are a team picking in the 20's, would you rather have a guy like Connor cook or jimmy? To me it's not even close. That's why I could see him having first round value.

Clearly, with Brady's two year extension the chances of trading Jimmy just went up a notch.

Big time, close to a garantee really.

Getting the 29th pick for Jimmy Garapollo is amazing value.
That said, it is ridiculous. The market is a 3rd or 4th for a guy who was drafted late 2nd and has sat on his butt not playing football for 2 years.

I wonder what Goody would do if BB works out an NBA draft style trade and has the team who wants Garopollo draft our guy for us and trades him directly for Garopollo.
That would be a big FU to goody...

It'll come down to how a team views Connor Cook and Hackenberg. Houston has Hoyer, the 49ers have Gabbert. If they think Jimmy is an upgrade on either of them (he is), then he's absolutely worth a 2nd plus.

an overly simplistic view

he didn't sit on his butt

for every 1 hour of game time, there are 30-50 hours of practice and preparation.....it would depend on what the suitor saw

I hope some team is high enough on whatever substance it is to actually even entertain the idea of offering a 2nd round draft pick for Jimmy Garoppolo.

Only came to this thread because the title made me giggle like an embarrassed schoolgirl.
