Game Thoughts: I am embarrased by this loss edition

Who would you sit apart from Brady and who would be the replacement ?

Everybody. If you're going to rest guys, rest them. There's a backup at every position.

It's like you have no idea who Belichick is.

If he decided to run down the time because he determined that given everything it wss more likely that the Jets get another shot at a FG then thats not scared but clever and the most Belichick-esque thing ever.

If you play poker and determine that the percentages are not in your favor you fold to live another day.

It takes a special talent to twist this into something negative.

LOL! Stop making excuses for Belichick. You have Brady. The score was 10-3 at the half. In fact, it was 3-3 before the Pats got the ball back right before the half. It wasn't like the Jets were lighting up the Patriots. Belichick coached scared of the offense for the last two weeks.

Brady passed 5 times in the first half. He didn't throw a real pass in the first two drives (he pitched the ball to Bolden on play that counted as a pass because it was in a forward direction). His first real pass was the third play of the third drive which was a screen pass to Stephen Jackson. That was all by plan.

Again, Brady passed 5 times in the first half. That was the game plan to keep it on the ground. Any QB could have run that offense. If they needed to go to an aerial attack there was no law that if Brady was the back up in this game that he couldn't have replaced Garoppolo.

So if the Dolphins have another bad snap and we recover the ball deep in their territory you think we would just blindly call runs?

It is called situational football for a reason. Just because the Dolphins were able to play an almost error free game and no shortfield situation came up it doesnt mean that it was a bad idea to be prepared for one.

I was disgusted last week. Two of the team's worst performances in a row. But at least last week, they played their hearts out against a decent opponent. This week, they played like they didn't even seem to care.

Personally, I'm always most concerned about a team's psyche right before they enter the playoffs; their final state before the playoffs begin. And I do mean across all sports.

Ergo, when I say that I'm not optimistic, I'm pointing at the state of the team spanning the last 6 weeks. And I'm not just stating that because they lost 4 of their last 6. Rather, it's because of how they played. It appears many have been making excuses for this team every single week of late up to this one. The MIA game was simply a culmination of where they've been headed...where they are at, now. Ya know, they say you're only as good as your last gig.

Who can they beat right now? How about playoff teams that finished strongly?

And some will argue that players will come back and they'll be fine. Got it. Are they just going to "plug in" and make it all better, even thought the team has been been trending downward for the past 6 weeks?

IMO, the coach has to fix this. And he has to fix it for the duration of the season, else the threads will change quickly to the draft, player predictions, and how great next year's season might be. o_O

Ummm...... Did you watch today's game? The Pats ran the ball on 3rd and 8 on the second drive. On 3rd and 14 on the Dolphins' 28, they ran a draw. There were plenty of plays today where the situation dictates you pass the ball and Brady handed off.

So a) you really have no clue what makes BB one of the greatest coaches of all time b) you lol at your own reasoning not my excuses for a why we didnt go no huddle with a makeshift OL and c) "You have Brady" makes you sound like a 15 year old who has no deeper knowledge of the sport.

Brady is a human and cant do **** if the OL doesnt give him consistently more than a second, all quick WRs are out or on a significant snap count, the opponent crowds the intermediate game and doubles Gronk because there is no running game and deep throws are not possible without setup time.

But sure.. by all accounts try to force something to happen.

I am not worried about this team's psyche in the playoffs. When I talk about Belichick hurting the offensive psyche, I am talking in a given game. I think when the head coach shows no faith in you in a certain situation, then you lose confidence at that point. I think Edelman returning will be a huge boost to the over team psyche.

Whats your end game here Rob?

Do we fire Belichick? Label him an idiot? What? What do you hope to accomplish here?

Right. Because his gameplan was SO good, us mere mortals can't understand it.

Because running a draw on a third and long in FG distance has never happened before even when we were playing at full health.. I must have imagined all those angry comments about playcalling in the past then.

Dolphins were playing nickle against the two TE sets we had on those plays so guess what we checked into.. yep runs..

Belichick is the greatest coach of all time, but he is also human. Belichick makes mistakes. He is not immune to it. I don't blindly think everything he does is perfect. I think he is more right than any other coach, but even he makes bad decisions.

And you keep on making the case the Pats should have sat Brady today while arguing against it.

I didn't imply that you were. That is simply my own insight in regards to the rest; something I believe indicates the pulse of what is really going on. And it extends before and beyond a single game.

Nope. Those are overreations. What we do is question his gameplan and move on to the next game.

Huh?!? I am pointing out that I think he made a few mistakes in recent weeks. Why does there need to be an end game? I am not trying to do anything other than state my opinions.

Seriously, are people here so thin skinned that if you point out that you think Belichick did a bad job in a game or two that you think the person has some kind of agenda?

Right. Because his gameplan was SO good, us mere mortals can't understand it.

There is nothing subtle about it. We played two games in a row with absolute vanilla defensive schemes and purposefully conservative offense.

Doubt anyone is foolish enough to think we will approach a playoff game similarly.

He wanted to win but not very badly....there it is

Well, we have a poster in another thread who hinted just that. That the Pats would play in the POs the same way

When they are in makeable field goal range, the Pats usually pass on third and long in a close game because if they don't get anymore yards, they can still kick the field goal. The Pats usually only run on third and long when they are not in field goal range and back up on their side of the field because they want field position on the punt.

Again, all it takes are blown coverages or turnovers and suddenly it becomes a bit more questionable if Jimmy can deliver the same way that Brady could if a situation would present itself.

This isn't soccer. They could put Brady in to take advantage of a situation like that and then take him out again if they wanted to.

And who said that they would approach this way in the playoffs. And they did anything but play vanilla last week. McDaniels took almost every trick play out of his playbook in that game. They played a lot of zone though last week because they were without their two starting safeties and playing man would have been suicide.
