He's been god awful in New Orleans. His best attribute, as we know, if playing physical to amp up the defense so when you have a good team and overall good defense that can cover his mistakes and win games it's great. When your team sucks it's annoying.

I think Rob Ryan's undisciplined nature is rubbing off on him and Belichick understood how to put Browner in a position to succeed. Rob Ryan does not.

Saints' safeties dropping all over the place hasn't helped at all. Browner's good in a very specific role, but that role requires safety help over the top. It should not be ignored that his successes came with Earl Thomas and Devin McCourty--the two best FS in the league--playing next to him.

The Saints could've hoped for some reasonable approximation of this if Jairus Byrd could stay healthy, but that hasn't happened. Byrd was out yesterday, and his backup is on IR for good measure.

I will always appreciate Browner's contribution in the SB, killing the Seahawks pick, enabling Butler to be in position to make a play. A physical corner was what was needed.....

The mysterious reason (at the time) for Browner leaving was money, we all thought it was a consequence of Revis leaving and then becoming difficult to fit Browner in a zone scheme, but I read a interview with him still in the off season and he was all thankful for BB and Kraft etc but "when they asked me to take a pay cut I thought it was time to leave there", something along this lines.

So I think BB wanted him to stay, but at a reduced cost, probably because BB knows he is not a CB1 and maybe not even #2 depending on the match-ups, but he is solid in certain packages. So from a management point of view it would not be wise to pay starter money to a rotational player. I believe this team would be better with Browner still here, I have a feeling BB also knows that, but how better and at how much? We are entering in the final years of a lot of studs, it's a luxury we don't have now. If they can work something out though, it would be a nice addition. The Saints are hot garbage and will keep being mediocre for years .

He played well for the Seahawks under Carroll (who, whatever else you think of him, is obviously a DB whisperer).

He played well for the Patriots under BB / Matt Patricia.

He is playing terrible for New Orleans under Rob Ryan.

I know that Browner is 31 (when some cornerbacks can have a serious drop-off in performance) and his safety help in New Orleans is hardly what it was in Seattle and New England, but I have to think that a major part of the explanation is that the New Orlean coaches just can't figure out how to use him the way that Seattle and New England did. It is hard to beat BB as a defensive coach, and at this stage in his career Carroll appears to be a very fine defensive coach also. Rob Ryan....not so much.

And, more importantly, when to keep him off the field so he doesn't get burned. Browner is the quintessential role player - a shutdown corner in specific circumstances and a burn victim in all others. He should only be on the field against certain teams, in certain situations. Otherwise he's a liability.

If traded to the Patriots, we wouldn't assume his signing bonus, so his cap hit in 2015 would be really small (prorated under 1.5 million).

His salaries/roster bonuses for 2016/2017 are 5 million each, with 2.75 million fully guaranteed in 2016. Info per Herald link below, assuming that's accurate.

He'd be a bargain in 2015 for us, but still not worth the 5m in 2016 most likely. Would it be worth trading for him knowing you're tying 2.75m of cap space on him in 2016 regardless of his being on the roster? I don't know. I do know that he was really good at what he did in 2012-2014. Question is if we could still play him in that manner when the CB opposite of him is Butler instead of Revis/Sherman.
