What surprise 3rd round pick do you think the Patriots will make?

I have looked at all 7th rounders and UDFA's who could be the pick in the 3rd round. I am putting my money on Khairi Fortt OLB out of Cal. What is also funny, I watched this kid play high school football.

Khairi Fortt, OLB, California, NFL Draft - CBSSports.com - NFLDraftScout.com

Funny you mentioned him as I actually mocked him in one of my drafts today (albeit in the 6th round). IDK if the Patriots make a surprise pick this year though. However if they do you know it is gonna be a safety. We can't be breaking tradition can we?

In that case it will be... Vinnie Sunseri - SS

He is like a coach on the feild which Belichick loves. Why it is BB loves smart players with lowish talent instead of raw players who are super talented and try to coach em up?

I'll go the Sebastian Vollmer route: a small-conference athletic marvel. This year that probably means a DE like Larry Webster.

I'm guessing you mean at safety specifically? Because last year's top 2 draft picks, Collins and Dobson, surely fit your description.

I meant specifically with his "surprise reaches" I guess I should have clarified it more but I thought people would know what I meant.

Lache Seastrunk or Charles Sims

OK, then I still disagree because guys like Sebastian Vollmer, Nate Ebner, Logan Mankins and Matthew Slater were "surprise reaches" with fabulous athleticism. Any chance a certain pair of safeties could be weighing a little too heavy on your mind?

David Fales QB San Jose St

I'm so torn on Fales. He seems to ME to fit the Patriots mold, but the QBs they've actually drafted in the past decade were all big, tall guys with impressive arm strength.

Seastrunk and Sims have 3rd round projections by some so they obviously won't be BB's headscratchers. I'll say someone like Alfred Blue of LSU, though even he may have too high of a grade.

Ah, I totally missed that this was supposed to be "surprise/headscratcher" picks. I'm going James White or Michael Sam in the third. But I thought BB surprises happen in the 2nd?

Vollmer was a 'reach'. But he's a physical freak for the OT position - 6'8 and moves as nimbly as a dancing bear. Really the only recent reach in the 2nd that I can think of is Tavon Wilson, and any GM will have their share of reaches when drafting at the bottom of the round on a consistent basis.

I'm not going to crucify BB for one missed pick. Jamie Collins in the 2nd is the opposite of Tavon Wilson. Collins is an athletically gifted freak who really came on as the season came to a close.

He's Hoyerific!

I think Boseko Lokombo is a candidate.

Colt Lyerla

As bad as his character concerns are he would be one hell of a toss up between steal and bust in the 3rd. Ability wise he might be the 2nd best TE in his draft as a receiving threat.

C.J. Fiedorowicz. Troy Niklas concussion history has the Pats a little weary of taking him at TE.
