The rationale was a bit of fun and on first-pick Donald slides to 29 fairly often so I was hoping for that and coming away with Mack & Donald in round 1 because why not Donald was off the board but Hageman was still there and took the risk of him still being there at 36.

other option at 29: Ryan Shazier OLB OSU really like everything about this guy and would be very solid for us
2. (62) getting Niklaus here could be a stretch but im not sure if i like him enough and Marcus Smith is a good option but ultimately I would trade down for a mid 3rd and 4th
2nd mock: Dominique Easley absolute beast probably wouldnt mind taking him with the 2nd round pick if we picked hageman but we have other needs

3. (75) Weston Richburg C probably the top center unless you like Martin more would be a very smart choice in rebuilding our interior o line
no 2nd option because no trade in 2nd mock

I love every single pick here except Lyerla. Unfortunately, my personal projection also has every single pick here being gone at the points you pick them! Here's hoping you're right and I'm wrong.

Saw this mock on National Football Post. Yikes. Donald going 16th to Dallas and Hageman going 15th to Pitt. Can't see Pitt going DL after not hitting too well on Heyward or Ziggy Hood. They have us taking Ealy. Tuitt, Jernigan, Ford and Shazier are on the board at 29.

I have a feeling Zach Martin will drop a little like DeCastro did to 24 a couple of years ago. Many thought DeCastro was a Top 10 pick. If we take Martin, and play him at RG. Sets up our OL pretty cheap. Slide Connelly to center. Re-up Svitek on the cheap. Can take a C later in draft. 6th round or so. Just a hunch.

We just paid Wendell 4m per year. I'm thinking we're not going OIL until round 3. There's a good chance a decent guard or center lasts that long.

#29 Ealy/Ford - DE - This is becoming more and more likely. Unless someone falls who makes a trade up possible DE is the way to go IMO. If both these guys are gone maybe Shazer but likely a trade down.


#62 ASJ/Niklas - TE - A trade up of the 2nd round pick is becoming less likely IMO as i think we will need our 3rd badly. If ASJ falls this far (or a few spots before and requires a minor trade up) it is a big win for us. Niklas would be okay too though.

#93 Richberg/Dozier - C/OG - We are going to trade a OL man before pick 100. The Wendell signing guareenteed this as I am sure BB ideally has no intention of paying Wendell that much. If someone falls this far who should not maybe we take them. Otherwise we sign an OL to either push Wendell directly or allow Connolly to take that spot.

#130 Tripp/Jones/Hubbard - OLB - We need an athelitic LB or 2. One of these guys hopefully falls to us. I would love to get 2 if I could. All offer slightly different skill sets but are steals in round 4.

#140 Exum/Dixon - SS - The more I think about it the more i think this is the guy BB would prefer. Bill loves to convert former CBs to safety as they offer versatility. A SS is possible earlier (pick 62 i think) but I think we grab one no later than here. It is the last piece of our D.

With all major needs filled the Patriots go for BPA with relative need.

6A - Bordine - OG/C - BB picks up another versitile OL. If Wendell is cut it will open up another spot and this under the rador prospect could be a good depth signing.

6B - De'Anthony Thomas - RB - No surprise here from me. I love this player and we need depth help as RB. Thomas is good for 10 touches a game and can back up Vereen with his receiving ability.

7 - Larry Webster - DE/OLB - The Patriots get another Edge player with length and speed. Webster has the talent to go far in the NFL if harnessed.

Also TE is of course possible in the last 3 picks and we will pick up an undrafted one if we don't draft one here.

Trade Pic # 1 2014 to Cleveland for # 4 and 26. Let them get their pick of the QB litter.

Then wheel and deal picks to load up and stock up w/ OL, DL, TE, QB,WR. and other needs.

That would give us 3 1st Round, 2 2nd rounds and the rest of our pics to trade back or stay put and load up, and give us an extra 1 next year.

I know, I know who is going to be our QB? Who is going to be our QB if Brady gets hit by a car full of nuns this summer? Or gets hurt week one, then what?

I'm just trying to put more eggs in the basket to help us win and be more than one dimensional.

Havent made one of these in a long time. With the FA frenzy coming to an end and having now a more clear understanding on some of the hot topics of the pats offseason this is as good a time as any to make one.

1. Kony Ealy, DE - I like him. And i think he compares well to Jones. Jones was more explosive coming out but Ealy is heavier and his 3 cone is amazing for such a big guy. "Moves like a linebacker" i've heard.
There isnt a lot of options at DE in this draft so if we want one(and god knows how much we need one, god aka bill) we have to grab him here.
Other options are Ford and Tuitt.

2. Seferian-Jenkins, TE - Not much to say other than that i doubt is here come draft day but for now i will have him. If Manx theory that we wont draft a TE early is right (which seems very plausible to me) i could see Tripp or a safety drafted here. Easley perhaps?

3. Jordan Tripp, LB - Seems to be on everyone board and righfully so as he looks a perfect fit. Could see him go late second, rumors are there's a few others teams who like him as much as we do around here. A TE or a RB are possibilities. CJ Fiedosewizcsbzz

4. Jerrick Mckinnon, RB - Played QB, FB, WR, defensive back, can return kicks..does that ring a bell or what? And what about that combine? Impressive athlete with tremendous versatility, think BB will like him?
Other options are Taliafierro and Dri Archer, not necessarily here but guys i think fit with what we need.

6. Matt Patchan, OT - He could go higher but ultimately i think he will fall due to his injury history. Could allow Cannon to move inside and be the backup tackle or just learn on Vollmer's shadow.

6. John Urschell, OL - With Wendell re signing and draft history showing BB tends not to draft interior OL early this brilliant mind who opted for football looks as good as any other pick here. Development guy.

7. Brock Vereen, DB - We couldnt leave the draft without a safety. "Top-notch intangibles"*can be read in his nhl combine profile. Not the greatest tackler but very good athlete who can contribute in special teams. Another very BB pick. That or some guy from rutgers.

Definitely forgiven. This is very close to how one of my mocks would look. Every pick there is believable. My only change would be Dee Ford over Ealy but even then, Ealy might be the better logical fit. Really good job.

I can't believe those reports are accurate. I have a hard time believing someone who's drawn no interest on the market suddenly becomes one of the highest-paid guys on the team in AAV.

From what I'm reading, if he's cut before camp, then he basically becomes an $850,000 insurance policy. Let's hope they draft a bad ass center to make that happen.

He is a BB type player who tested well. You're right, he could very well be this year's reach. I'd say it's even more likely if we draft Hageman.

I wasn't trying to put a definition behind "bad ass". I am looking for a stronger center with good mobility that is able to get downfield quickly in the short passing game. That's why I mocked Stork.

The Patriots haven't drafted OL with vertical jumps under 28" and most of the centers in this draft fail that measure. Bryan Stork didn't test at the combine so I don't know about him. But certainly Richburg (26.5), Swanson (26) and Martin (22) fall short. Bodine of N Carolina had a 29".

I've been beating the drum for VJ as key to Pats OL picks for years, but I make something of an exception for centers. At that position they seem to be willing to accept lesser athletes to secure other qualities -- presumably including mental qualities that are hard for us to see. (I can't believe that Rich Ohrnberger could jump at all!)

That might be right. I tend to base my opinion on empirical data and adjust when that data adjusts. If they do draft a center with a below par VJ, I'll adjust my thinking...and hopefully not worry about the problem for a generation

I just want to say that Nikita Whitlock is one of the stoutest 250lbers I've seen. Guy plays NT for Wake Forest for goodness sake. I think he's a great BB fit as a UDFA as a special teamer and either FB or LB. He would be a fantastic fit as a SILB in a 2 gap 3-4.

Firstly, I want t apologise for putting this in the wrong thread.

Secondly I just want to point out two stats regarding Whitlock.

Remember that Whitlock is playing a NT in a 3-4 at 5'11" and 250lbs. He had 9 sacks this year and 18 tackles for loss. That's only 2 sacks less than Donald and only 10 tfl less than Donald. That's some production for a 250lb NT
