I was listening to WEEI this afternoon and Jerry Thornton of Barstool Sports was cohosting. Right before he left, he said "a friend of a friend" has told him that the Pats and Big Vince have agreed in principle to an extension.

Thornton did break the Pats signing LaFell on Twitter before anyone else. So he does have connections. He didn't seem as confident with the Big Vince rumor as the LaFell one, but Ben Volin also said today that Vince asking for release was just a negotiating tactic and he would be back.

May be nothing, but I figured I would pass the info along since I haven't seen it anywhere here.

I hope it's true

Someone needs to check Bianca's twitter feed

Extending Wilfork and lowering his cap hit has been my preference from the beginning. I hope this is something that comes to pass.

This would be awesome. Would love to see Vince return in red white and blue. I thought they would have cut him last week if they were going to.

Personally, I am torn. If he can be at least 70-80% of 2012 Vince on a lower cap hit, it is worth making a deal. Much less and I think the Pats should move on. I just fear he may be much less.

From an emotional standpoint, I want to see him retire never playing any other uniform. From a reality standpoint, I wonder if it is time to cut bait.

Assuming the prognosis on the Achilles is good, it's the only thing that makes sense

The Patriots could use him - just not at that price or cap hit

Whatever he gets from the Pats in a re-structuring is MUCH more than he'd command on the open market

I love Vince, but if he refuses to re-structure (and soon) he leaves the Pats with no choice but to cut him (and I think they still may want to make a few more free agency moves and the cap relief would allow for that)

I was wondering why they haven't released him yet..they are still talking obviously.

It really comes down to the finances and evaluating (hoping) Vince makes a full recovery from his achilles injury. That's the sticking point for me. The recovery from surgery and a return to the NFL.

As someone who is currently recovering from achilles surgery and thus having had a first hand experience of how debilitating it is, I wish Vince the best of luck for making a good comeback. I don't know what the recovery will be physically, but it has most certainly taken a psychological toll.

BTW, watching Jets Insider will be fun if he does extend his contract. All last week they all were dancing up and down how Revis has already torn apart the locker room and the Pats are going to be "screwed" without Big Vince anchoring the run defense that already sucks.

You know the same guys will spin it how Vince is old, fat, and can never come back from the achilles tear and the Pats were stupid not to cut him when they could.

If the restructure is very Patriots-friendly (i.e., yielding significant cap space), I think it would be worthwhile even if he's only 70-percent of his former self. Put him in there on running downs, then take him out.

I'm REALLY anxious to know how his rehab is going and what his capabilities are. There hasn't been a peep about this anywhere.

Brady has been in decline since 2001. Let's not forget that.

In fairness to Jets fans, they didn't think he was declining until about 2009. Up until then, he was just a mediocre QB who was a product of Belichick. Granted they also thought Belichick sucked and he was just a product of Brady. So go figure.

I rather cut him and pick up Allen.

I doubt that is an option unless Allen comes down from his ridiculous contract demands.

I think he would settle for Ware's 3 for 30 deal.

Yeah, and that's a ridiculous demand.

You know, the kind that he needs to come down from.
