you lost me at "Cut Wilfork"

you lost me at "Cut Wilfork"

I will be shocked if Wilfork is able to play at a decent level next season. There aren't a ton of 325+ lb. (conservatively) 32 year old tackles with Achilles' tendon ruptures to use as a case study; but the tendon is critical in the ability to push off and generate power, which is a huge part of Wilfork's game, and athletes who tear their Achilles' tendon often never achieve the same degree of explosiveness or power as prior to the injury. Age and increased weight load would both increase the likelihood that Wilfork post-injury will not be anything like Wilfork pre-injury.

Do you want to bet next season on committing big money - even if his contract is restructured - on that scenario? I don't.

The sentimental thing to do is to restructure Wilfork. The prudent thing to do is to move on for now, until he can prove that he can play. If that means burning the bridge, then so be it.

Here's my first go

1. ASJ, TE, Washington- imo the best overall tight end. Holds onto the ball when hit.

2. David Fales, QB, San Jose St.- Gunslinger with a quick release. Also seems to excel at the throws Brady doesn't. Back shoulders and deep bombs. Would be nice to see him develop the rest of his game from watching Brady.

3. Calvin Barnett, DT, Oklahoma St.- I just like his game.

4. Chris Burnette, OG, Georgia- I have always liked the pocket Murray had to work w/ and he is part of the reason for it.

6. Jordan Tripp, LB, Montana-decent in the senior bowl

6. Ross ****rell, CB, Duke- Whenever I watched a Duke game, quarterbacks struggled to complete passes in his area.

7. James Gayle, DE, Virginia Tech- Very high on him. Almost as much as I was Buchannon last year who also went in the seventh.

Guys I strongly considered but didn't make the mock were Robinson, Tuitt, Seatrunk, Van Noy, and Marcus Smith. I tried to make this as realistic as I possibly could, hence no projected trades from me. Hope you like.

I love your first pick and like your last two. I'm not so keen on the middle personally but it is nice to consider new names which your mock has given us so I do like that about it. Good job.

For reference: I have us after FA with: Chandler TE, Sanders WR and Talib CB as the major starting position signings.

Restructure Wilfork, Mankins. I am assuming Kelly, Wilfork and Mayo are fit next year.

I have Mallett traded because why not it's a mock draft.

1. Aaron Donald DT - This pick could change but I have just been very very impressed with Donald's tape. He looks dominant and with Wilfork and Kelly's age. I think this is a move for the future. He will be in the rotation especially on passing downs.

2a Travis Swanson C - Easy pick for me here. There is no doubt that the line underperformed last year and IMO that came from the middle. Swanson has the potential to correct that straight away.

2b Paul Richardson WR - After addressing TE and WR in FA but losing Edelman. I have given TB another young dynamic guy to throw into the mix. I personally am not that high on KT but do think Boyce has some very good potential. I want to give TB as many weapons as possible.

3. Marcus Smith DE/OLB - Adds athleticm. I don't want to be SOSing Andre Carter types again mid season without any injury to the DE position. Addressed pass rush interior at 1 now outside speed at 3. I also believe he could displace fletcher in the LB core. Will definitely make it as a ster in the mean time (possible slight trade up needed here)

4. AJ McCaron QB - Replacement for the traded out Mallett

6. Marqueston Huff FS - Annual help us at S pick. Hoping to strike here

6. Ricardo Allen CB - Hopefully to add some depth at already deep position

7. Taylor Hart DE - Outside Rush hopefully

Basically tried to shore up team needs in FA allowing to add talent at positions where they could have most effect during the draft.

Basically gave TB 3 new weapons to throw at. Hopefully stabilised the OL.

Added youth and playmaking to the interior DL.

If Talib goes, we need to add depth to the CB Corp.

You put a tremendous amount of work into this. Nice job. I'll have to look at it in more detail tomorrow.

Sorry just finished the last bit for starting line-ups.

If Swanson doesn't work out as planned we can always have Cannon at RG and Connelly to C in the mean time.

Added youth and playmaking to the interior DL. You saw what Collins did to the playmaking of this D, Smith has the potential to have a similar effect. IMO Fletcher is a good backup but he had his chance to prove himself this year and he was overtaken. The Nickel especially becomes very exciting and dynamic.

Making the front 7:
Base 3-4
DL: Kelly-Wilfork - Jones
LB: Ninko - Mayo - Hightower-Collins
4-3
DL: Ninkovich - Wilfork - Kelly-Jones
LB: Mayo - Hightower - Collins
Nickel
DL: Smith - Jones/Kelly - Donald - Jones
LB: Mayo - Collins

If all goes to plan, we lose Wendell but upgrade with Swanson. Add a bit more youth to our DL maybe a year early but better than a year late. I have chosen to keep Connolly for now but the ideal scenario is Cannon takes over at RG and Connolly is then cut in camp for cap savings (is that right?). Making a line of:

OL: Solder-Mankins-Swanson-Cannon-Vollmer

I also addressed TB's weapons with TE and WR in FA but also hoping to catch lightning in a bottle in the 3rd with a talented good value WR. Letting Edelman go is tough but IMO necessary.

2 TE 2 WR 1 RB: Sanders, Dobson, Gronk, Chandler and Ridley
1 TE 3 WR 1 RB: Sanders, Amendola, Dobson, Gronk and Ridley
4WR 1 RB: Sanders, Amendola, Boyce, Dobson and Vereen

This will be a crazy draft, maybe the best one in years. I wouldn;t be suprised if Evans fall down to the early 20s or late teens. If he does, is it worth it to trade up and get that physical WR

Quick mock from me. I'm using NFL draft scout rankings as a guide but not too strictly as there will no doubt be movement between now and May. My aim with this mock? Add playmakers on both sides of the ball. Add a penetrating DT, more DE depth, double dip at TE and add an explosive WR.

Tbh I haven't looked too much at the lower ends of the draft as yet.

I assume we re-sign Talib, sign Mack, let Edelman walk.

1. Aaron Donald DT
2a (trade Mallet - what the hell) Jace Amaro TE
2b Brandin Cooks WR
3 Marcus Smith DE
4 Anthony Steen G
5 Vinnie Sunseri (trade both 6s) SS
6 Richard Rogers (comp pick) TE
7 Aaron Colvin CB

I cant imagine any scenario where Amaro is available in round 2 but there's a lot of time between now and the draft for players to rise and fall so who knows. If that were to happen, I love love love your first 2 picks. I know a lot of people are high on Cooks. He's no doubt an electric play maker but I would much rather have Beckham in that spot. I also love the Rogers and Colvin picks late. Overall, I would definitely take this draft if it happened. Nice job!!!

I like the work put into these mocks.

3. Jaguars- Johnny Manziel QB Texas A&M
4. **TRADE** Vikings(From Browns) Teddy Bridgewater QB Lousiville
Vikings traded #8, #72, #104, 2015 4th for a new QB. This trade makes sense because the Browns wanted Manziel, he was taken already and the Vikings need to replace Gabbert.

27. Saints- Ra’Shede Hageman DT Minnesota
28. Panthers- Odell Beckham WR LSU
29. **TRADE** Raiders- Derek Carr QB Fresno State
Raiders traded #36, #103, #197. We all know the Patriots love trading down to acquire picks especially in a deep draft like this. Raiders are in need of a QB. They traded up to get their QB.

32. Seahawks- David Yankey OG Stanford
Round 2

39. Jaguars- Kyle Van Noy OLB BYU
40. Vikings- Trent Murphy DE Stanford
41. Bills- Cyril Richardson OG Baylor
42. Patriots(From Titans)- Austin Seferin-Jenkins TE Washington
Ummmmm, we already took a TE in the first round? 2 back to back TEs, what are you crazy? Think about it this way, 2 big TE that can block and catch the ball. Gronk always gets injured. Also, with all of the picks the Patriots acquire, they have enough to get more team needs.
43. Giants- Trevor Reilly OLB Utah
44. **TRADE**Cardinals(From Rams)- Morgan Moses OT Virginia
Cardinals traded #52, #116, #148, 2015 6th. My friend is a cardinals fan and this is his binky, I figure I give him the benefit of the doubt.

63. Broncos- Chris Smith DE Arkansas
64. Seahawks- Paul Richardson WR Colorado

Patriots 7 Round Mock Draft(Look about for rounds 1+2)
93. Ahmad Dixon SS Baylor
Face it, we need a true SS. Gregory is more of a FS.
117. Billy Turner OT North Dakota State
I am a firm believer that in order to move our offense up and down the field, we need to block and we need depth. Turner is a perfect fit for out system.
125. AJ McCarron QB Alabama
I am really high on this QB. I think after the combine he will move up in the draft, but now for this mock. We got him to replace Mallett and possibly replace Brady when he retires.
133(From Browns). Brandon Thomas OG Clemson
I think this guy will eventually replace Mankins, but he could state at RG right now.
139.(From Titans) Tyler Lawson OC Utah State
By drafting Lawson, we could either trade or cut Wendell.
182. TRADED for 2015 5th
189. Kevin Norwood WR Alabama
Had a great game at the Senior Bowl, would be nice for the future that McCarron had his buddy to throw to.
221. Aaron Colvin CB Oklahoma
If Talib goes, we need to add depth to the CB Corp.

Looking at this in more detail, a couple of comments:

- I personally don't like the double TE option (no surprise to Manx). Too much on one position in a loaded draft. Take Hageman at 26 and ASJ at 42, or take Amaro at 26 and Trent Murphy at 36 (no trade back) or Tuitt at 42 and I think it's fine.
- I love Billy Turner and I like the Tyler Larsen and Brandon Thomas picks, but it's too many rookie linemen. Can't see that happening.
- Love the Aaron Colvin pick, but I doubt he lasts to 221.

Again, I'm nitpicking, and just giving my personal preferences. You went to a lot of work, and it's a fine effort.

Sorry just finished the last bit for starting line-ups.

Like the effort, and many of the picks, but adding Scott Chandler - and only Chandler -
isn't nearly enough help at TE. Gronk will not be ready until at least week 7, and drafting
a Move TE of the future is an absolute, inarguable must.

I can live with what you have here with the trades.
I would like to see us keep Talib, Blount and not cut Mankins.

With our first two picks as you have outlined take the best available TE or DB that fits into our system, in either order.

With the rest of our pics go with BEEF OL, DL and Bolo for a B/U QB. If they take beef with the first pic would I lose any sleep, of course not.

I still have faith that at least one of last years WR's will become servicable

Excuse me while I go look and see who Rutgers has entering the draft

Citation, please, because that's not in the same universe as what I've been hearing.

8-12 month recovery period; if an average of 10 months is used, then Gronk will not be
available until October 1st; and this time around, he'll likely be placed on Reserve/PUP.

A timetable for Rob Gronkowski's return from looming ACL surgery has been set even before he's gone under the knife. Sources told The Boston Herald and NFL Network that the brilliant but brittle tight end will be ready for the start of next season.

Aggressive timeline set for Gronkowski return | Comcast SportsNet - CSNNE.com

The Patriots tentatively expect him to be ready for the start of the 2014 season. The early reports have all been positive, but being that it's the Patriots we're unlikely to hear much more on Gronkowski before late-spring or early-summer.

I hope they're right; but considering all that's happened to him earlier, I would caution against
an aggressive recovery timeline.

And even if Gronk is on the Opening Day 53, a Move TE to replace The Prisoner should still be
a top-100 draft priority.

Welker was ready for the start of the season but it took him a year to get right. He is more dependent upon quick cuts and short area quickness than Gronk but I don't know that we can count on a 100% Gronk.
