We tried this last year so let's give it a go again this year. The trick is to picks a full team from the players in this draft.

The rules:

.

1. The aim is to create a team of 22 starters on offense and defense from this draft. No special teams.

2. You will be allowed three picks per round ( 3x7=21). Whilst you can have as many UDFA ranked players as you like to get to 22, you must have at least one UDFA (3x7)+1.

3. We will be using CBS Sport's rankings for this exercise.

4. You can choose whichever formation you like. You can go 3-4, 4-3, 4-2-5 etc on defense, go with a FB on offense, five wide or TE heavy. The choice is yours but please ensure it's both legal and realistic.

5. Please specify the CBS ranking/or round for each prospect.

6. No unreasonable projecting. We're looking for a team to win as early as possible. So no trying to tell us that this UDFA QB you've chosen that no-one has heard of will be the next Tom Brady.

I'll be entering my team shortly. If you have any questions, please ask and feel free to comment (politely) on peoples choices. And have fun!

Edit: One more rule. We're only focused on the rankings of the prospects, not their projected rounds. So your available 2nd round prospects are those ranked 33-64 and any prospect ranked later than 224 is considered a UDFA.

Wasn't there a total draft position rule or something last year to prevent every single entry from starting like below?

QB Teddy Bridgewater
DE Jadeveon Clowney
OT Jake Matthews

Here's mine:

QB Zack Mettenberger (4)

RB Antonio Andrews (6)

WR Brandon Coleman (5)

WR Sammy Watkins (1)

WR Robert Herron (3)

TE CJ Fiedorowicz (4)

OT Jake Matthews (1)

OG Anthony Steen (4)

OC Gabe Ikhard (7)

OG John Halapaio (6)

The rules above were copied and pasted from last year so no. I shall leave that up to each person's integrity

QB- Jimmy Garoppolo (2)
RB- Storm Johnson (7)
TE- Austin Seferian-Jenkins (2)
WR- Sammy Watkins (1)
WR- Jared Abbrederis (3)
slot WR- Jeremy Gallon (UDFA)
LT- Seantrel Henderson (5)
LG- Gabe Jackson (3)
C- Bryan Stork (4)
RG- John Urschel (7)
RT- Billy Turner (4)

Tampa 2 Defense

DE- Jadeveon Clowney (1)
DT- Dominique Easley (3)
DT- Daniel McCullers (4)
DE- Dee Ford (1)
OLB- Kyle Van Noy (2)
ILB- Max Bullough (6)
OLB- Ronald Powell (5)
CB- Antone Exum (5)
CB- Aaron Colvin (6)
FS- Jonathan Dowling (UDFA)
SS- Brock Vereen (UDFA)

The OL is low on talent, so the offense would be a shotgun, quick passing attack to suit to Garoppolo's strengths. Screens to Watkins/Johnson, while ASJ/Abbrederis/Gallon work the middle of the field. Watkins/ASJ should provide a good redzone offense.

The defense is all about the pass rush and the speed at OLB, because if they don't apply pressure the secondary will not fair so well.

Ya I saw the other thread bump right after. I should stop posting for the night I'm too tired.

That's a good team. I was tempted to go for Henderson at LT too (he's one of my "The Pats might surprise us" picks.

Caveats:

1. I'm drafting for the Pats, so I'm picking as much as possible players I think would fit the team and BB's overall approach.
2. I'm assuming a hybrid defense with multiple fronts, but predominantly a 4-man front.
3. I'm going to modify the rules, as I'm drafting 12 players each on offense and defense, adding an extra TE/move TE on offense and a 5th DB on defense; I'll allow myself 1 extra day 2 pick and 1 extra day 3 picks to address these, and will identify them as such.
4. No comp picks, so cutoffs by round are 1-32, 33-64, 65-96, 97-128, 129-160, 161-192 and 193-225. Anything over 225 qualifies as a UDFA.

By Round:

1. Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn (NFL DraftScout #4). The best prospect in this draft, IMO, and the best OT prospect since Joe Thomas.
1. Blake Bortles, QB, Central Florida (#5). Best pro prospect at the most important position in football.
1. Timmy Jernigan, DT, Florida St. (#23). 6'2" 298#. Strong against the run but able to penetrate. A close call with Ra'Shede Hageman, but Jernigan is more consistent.
2. Trent Murphy, DE, Stanford (#44). 6'6" 265#. I think this guy was made to play for BB.
2. Kyle Van Noy, OLB, BYU (#39). 6'3" 245#. Great instincts and range. Can cover or rush the passer.
2. Morgan Moses, OT, Virginia (#34). 6'6" 325#. A beast who will be a dominant RT.
[2. Extra day 2 pick for nickel back: Lamarcus Joyner, DB, Florida St. (#48). 5'9" 190#. Jack of all trades who can play CB, slot CB or S.]
3. Marcus Smith, OLB, Louisville (#79). 6'3" 258#. Great explosiveness, able to play in space.
3. Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB, Nebraska. Big, physical CB who can play press-man. Tough call between Jean-Baptiste and OC Weston Richburg,
3. Troy Niklas, TE, Notre Dame (#68). 6'7" 265#.
4. Devonta Freeman, RB, Florida St. (#101). My "flex back" - a Ray Rice clone who can run the ball or be a receiving threat.
4. Donte Moncrieff, WR, Mississippi. 6'2" 215#. Big, physical WR.
4. Christian Jones, MLB, Florida St. (#115). 6'3" 236#. Shades of Sean Lee.
5. Brandon Thomas, OG, Clemson (#138). 6'4" 316#.
5. Dion Bailey, S, USC. 6' 200# (#128). Bailey played OLB for 2 years at 200#. He's tough. LSU S Craig Losten (#131) is also an option. I'm torn between those two.
5. Brandon Coleman, WR, Rutgers (#147). 6'6" 220#.
6. Marcus Martin, C, USC (#179). 6'3" 310#.
6. Brandon Linder, OG, Miami (#178). 6'6" 316#.
6. Michael Campanaro, WR, Wake Forest (#191). 5'10" 190#. Slot receiver with smarts and toughness. Runs crisp routes, not afraid to go over the middle. Brady will love him.
7. Aaron Lynch, DE, USF (#206). 6'6" 260#. Athletically, he has everything needed to be a stud RDE. He's immature and a bit of a risk, but worth taking.
7. DeAndre Coleman, DT, Cal (#212). 6'5" 315#.
7. Aaron Colvin, CB, Oklahoma (#222). 5' 11 1/2" 194#. A stud who is coming off an ACL injury.
[7. Extra day 3 pick for move TE: Richard Rodgers, Move TE, Cal (#213). 6'4" 245#.]
UDFA. Jonathan Dowling, DB, Western Kentucky. 6' 2 1/2" 198#.

I love that secondary. And that's not damning by faint praise, I really do.

I am considering maybe changing this offense a little by dropping either Benjamin or Watkins and adding Amaro by the way

With such restrictions on drafting I think it is very difficult to put together a talented, versatile team, so I just stuck with the basics; run the ball and play defense.

On offense I went for a two TE I-formation with a big power back to just pound the rock. I think I have 3 potentially elite O-lineman with the top run blocking LT in the Draft, a monster RG and a really athletic LG that is excellent at pulling. Adding to that I think I’ve got two really underrated players that are both good in the run game at C and RT. I’ve got the best blocking TE in the draft who is also a decent receiving option as well as an athletic move TE and versatile FB. I might not be pretty but this would be a really tough offense that will just run it down your throat and hurt you with play action.

Personally I love this 3-4 defense. I’ve got size and length up front with a 342lb anchor, two 6’6” bookends and two 6’5” studs rushing from the edge. I love the combination of instincts and intelligence of Bullough with the speed and athleticism of Christian Jones at ILB. My secondary is probably the weakness of my defense but I think it has upside. SJB and Colvin both have potential as man to man cover CB’s and Dowling and Sunseri should have a chance to make some plays with the front 7 they are playing behind.

Overall I'm pretty happy with this team.

Our mocks agree on 9 players: Greg Robinson, Marcus Martin, Troy Niklas, Richard Rodgers, Trent Murphy, Christian Jones, Stanley Jean-Baptiste, Aaron Colvin and Jonathan Dowling. I almost had Ra'Shede Hageman and Cameron Fleming, and I thought about including Trey Millard instead of a 3rd WR. So I obviously like your mock.

I love your guards. Sua-Filo and Jackson is a tremendous combination. I chose to go with Morgan Moses to pair with Robinson outside, but you can't go wrong with what you chose.

My only quibble is that I really don't see us running a 3-4 base, and I don't think Clowney is particularly well suited to be a 3-4 OLB. He's best with his hand down rushing. But that's JMHO.

Great job.

[Nickel DB (extra pick): Lamarcus Joyner, Florida St. (2)]

As people having been touting their drafts, I'll tout mine. I really like this draft:

1. I think you have to build around a franchise QB, and I think Bortles is the best QB in the draft.
2. You have to protect your franchise QB. I think Greg Robinson is the best player in the draft, and another Walter Jones. Morgan Moses was a beast at the Senior Bowl, and would be a dominant RT in the DJ Fluker mold. I was tempted to go with a dominant LG - Wilfork#75 went with Xavier Fua-Silo, and with Cameron Fleming at RT, which would be fine - but I think that Brandon Thomas played quite well at the Senior Bowl, and held his own. Tony Pauline reports rumors that Marcus Martin could end up being the first center taken in May.
3. I was tempted to go with a pure "power" offense like Wilfork#75 did and put Trey Millard in their, but I went with 2 TEs and 3 WRs. Devonta Freeman is my favorite RB in this draft by far, and provides the ability to run the ball inside or out or to be a receiving threat. I went with 2 big, physical WRs and one underneath slot guy. I believe you can get solid receivers later in the draft, and this reflects my philosophy of how I'd build my team - and also what I think BB would do. I'd be happy to replace the slot receiver with Millard.
4. On defense, I don't see us going back to a 3-4 like Wilfork#75 did, so I tried to build a front 7 that could play multiple fronts - 3-4, 4-3 over, 4-3 under, 4-2-5, 2-4-5 and ameboid fronts. Trent Murphy, Kyle Van Noy, Christian Jones and Marcus Smith are all tremendously versatile players who can be moved all over the place, and they are the key to my defense. I think you can get a quality NT later in the draft, and I picked DeAndre Coleman over Justin Ellis because I think he offers more versatility and ability to penetrate - he's more of a 3 down player, IMHO. Timmy Jernigan vs. Ra'Shede Hageman was a tough call - Hageman provides more versatility, but Jernigan is more consistent. I could go either way on that one. Aaron Lynch has the physical tools to be a beast a RDE.
5. Unlike Manx, I didn't invest high picks in my secondary (except for nickel back/all-purpose DB Lamarcus Joyner). I think you can get studs in the 3rd round and on, particularly going the "Seattle" route with big, physical DBs. I really like Stanley Jean-Baptiste and Aaron Colvin as the CBs, and I think Jonathan Dowling has the same kind of physical upside as Aaron Lynch. SS was the hardest position for me to pick - I went with Dion Bailey over Craig Loston, but Manx may have talked me into changing to Anton Exum, if I can figure out the picks and rounds.

I wanted a physical team that could play multiple schemes on both offense and defense, and I liked this team much more than I thought I would when I started the exercise.

I just don't know that any of the QBs are worthy of that top billing so I built my front 7 first to pressure the QB. Passer rating vs Defensive passer rating.

RB Antonio Andrews (6)

OC Gabe Ikhard (7)

OG John Halapaio (6)

OLB Adrian Hubbard (5)

OLB Marcus Smith (3)

CB Kyle Fuller (2)

We had a lot of players in common but of the ones we didn't these are the ones I tried to fit in and thought long and hard and like a lot.
