The Senior Bowl Thread

Is it me or is that a lot lighter than advertised? I thought he was supposed to be in the 270 range.

He's listed as 261 by Stanford. This is too light for him IMHO, which is ok by me, as I'd love him to slip a bit.

not a fan of keith mcgill at all for me he's a 5th or 6th rounder at best if im taking a big seahawks type CB im taking stanley jean baptiste hes a solid late 2nd early 3rd prospect for me wouldnt mind murphy dropping if we can get another pick in the early to mid 2nd round

I love the 4-3 Under modified base the Seahawks use. Hightower doesn't really fit, but Mayo inside with Collins at SAM and Marcus Smith at Leo would be ideal, and give us tremendous athleticism. I originally had Armond Armstead pegged to play LDE in a 4-3 under, but there are lots of ways to go on the front 4.

I think Hightower could fit as a SLB potentially. Draft Smith and then you could interchange Hightower, Collins and smith as SLB, WLB and even Leo depending on the down with Mayo a permanent mike.

Here's what I've been waiting for.

Marcus Smith:

6034, 258, 33 1/4" arms.

That makes him almost identical to Collins. Smith is 8lbs heavier but his arms are 1/2" shorter. But that's really good for size in terms of making him a BB linebacker.

Noteable weigh-in results for me:

- WR Cody Hoffman, BYU: 6' 3 7/8" 218#, 33" arms, 9 7/8" hands.
- WR Jordan Matthews, Vanderbilt: 6' 5/8" 209#, 32 5/8" arms, 10 1/2" hands
- OC Travis Swanson, Arkansas: 6'5" 310#, 32 7/8" arms. Is he too talk to be an effective center?
- OC Bryan Stork, Florida St.: 6' 3 1/2" 306#, 31# arms
- OC Tyler Larsen, Utah St.: 6' 3 1.2" 317#, 30 1/2" arms. Heavier than I expected.
- OL Billy Turner, North Dakota St.: 6'5" 316#, 33 1/4" arms.
- DT DeAndre Coleman, Cal: 6'5" 315#, 34" arms, 81 1/2" wingspan. Beastly.
- DT Ra'Shede Hageman, Minnesota: 6'6" 318#, 33 3/4" arms, 81 1/4" wingspan. Almost identical frame to DeAndre Coleman.
- DE Trent Murphy, Stanford: 6' 5 3/8", 252#, 33 1/8" arms, 80 3/8" wingspan. Too light to be a true DE, needs to bulk up.
- DE Will Clarke, West Virginia: 6' 6 1/8" 271#, 33 3/8" arms, 79 1/2 wingspan. This is sort of where I would like to see Trent Murphy.
- LB Marcus Smith, Louisville: 6' 3 1/2" 258#, 33 1/4" arms, 80 1/2" wingspan.
- LB Kyle Van Noy, BYU: 6' 3" 1/4" 244#, 32" arms, 78" wingspan.

That's sort of the way I see it. Draft Smith and you have 4 studs who you can move around. Collins would be my first choice at SAM with Smith at Leo, but certainly Hightower can play SAM, MLB and Leo, depending on the matchup. Move guys around, keep them fresh, have good depth in case of injuries. Fletcher can play all LB positions and Leo, so he's ideal depth, and a great STer. That's a tremendous 5 man rotation.

Sleeper of the week for me: LS Tyler Ott, Harvard. 6' 2 3/4" 252#. He also played TE for Harvard, and had 4 TDs and 188 yards receiving. He could be a UDFA cheap replacement for Danny Aiken (we shouldn't overpay for a LS who snaps way over the punter's head), and extra depth as a TE/FB/Move TE.

Yeah. I'm actually really excited by the potential of this. If you like at the Seattle defensive starters, their defense wasn't built at an expensive price aside from Earl Thomas who could be equated by McCourty and Bruce Irvin and Jamie Collins are scrubs in effect. All we probably need would be Marcus smith (Trent Murphy for you) and maybe a big safety and big corner to backup Talib/Dennard.

Of course I want both Murphy and Smith/Van Noy. But I don't want Murphy as a pure OLB, more as a DE who can be moved around, and stood up at times.

Just a reminder: the RFA tender is an option. It is not mandatory, and it can be revised (Hoomanawanui, for example, renegotiated downward to stay).

Also, FWIW, I suspect that if the Pats did take Ott to replace Aiken, his TE days would come to an end.

I don't think the height is the issue, when I watched film on him he seemed to be very forward heavy and didn't move very fluidly, I think with him the root issue is a lack of lower body flexibility, at this point I wouldn't want to use an early pick on him.

I have a git feeling we might be better off with Hroniss Grasu or Weston Richburg but I need to watch more film before I commit on those guys.

I understand that. They don't have to tender him at all, just offer him a deal. It's not like the market for LS is tight, or that he's extraordinary. There's no way in hell I'd pay $1M+ for a long snapper.

As for Ott, I wouldn't expect the LSer to be a part of the regular rotation, and didn't mean to imply that he should be. But having some additional depth for emergency purposes is a plus.

Grasu didn't declare, and isn't in the 2014 draft.

The height issue plays in to the flexibility one. The taller you are, the more lower body flexibility you have to have to be effective. Take away that flexibility and you're "forward heavy" as a center. With that said, Mike Pouncey was 6'5" and Maurkice Pouncey 6' 4 1/2", and both are obviously very good centers. But I tend to look for guys more like Alex Mack (6' 3 7/8"), Travis Frederick (6' 3 5/8"), Eric Woods (6' 3 7/8") and Ryan Kalil (6' 2 6/8").

FWIW, I'm thinking two/three years, minimum salary, with about $50K/year for a signing bonus.

Sounds about right for me. For a LSer, the issue is whether you have a job or not, not about maximizing your salary. If the Pats offer him that, it's a good deal. If someone offers more, there are cheaper guys who can do that one thing adequately.
