Another Brady vs. Manning

Brady and Manning recently began drives in the 4th quarter at approximately the same time and under similar circumstances. Broncos start a drive with 2:36 left in the 4th vs. SD. Pats begin with 2:35 left in the 4th vs. CLE.

Not sure how the attachment will look, but Brady more efficient in the no-huddle (and nevermind the TD scoring or the winning). I added the blue column to identify the time from the last play. Brady goes faster.

What a coincidence though that with about 2 1/2 minutes left in the game both were in a very similar situation.

The reality is Manning was throwing short balls over the middle and kept the clock moving, there was no reason to not be throwing sideline outs to slow the clock other than a lack of confidence his arm could do it.

The two things you absolutely need in that situation are
- points
- as much time remaining on the clock as possible.

You obviously need a successful onside kick, too, but that is moot if you don't accomplish the above. Peyton kept throwing to the middle of the field, and low, so his receivers couldn't even try to get to the sideline. Why not kick a FG as soon as you're in range? There was even time for a couple of end zone shots.

I love Peyton, but the Pats made the logistics of that same situation look almost simple. Not sure what the Broncos were doing there.

Bingo. People jumped on the "see, Manning still has the arm AND can throw in the cold" because of those seam pass TDs to a wide-open Decker. Good lord, both Chad Pennington and I could have thrown those.

****ty coaches on a short week is not conducive to running an effective 2 minute drill imo, Thursday night games this year have been a disaster

You cannot claim that Peyton is the "field general", "calls his own plays" and is the "de-facto offensive coordinator" and then not fault HIM for the strategy. It's obvious that he's aware that he's no longer got the laser arm strength he once had and was unable to pull a Brady.

As I watched the end of the game last night, I was thinking exactly what the OP wrote. Manning was very un-Bradylike in a similar situation--only the Patriot needed 2 TDs, and Manning's job was much easier. He could have simply played for a long FG, onside kick, then TD.

Eventually this thing has to be kissed on the cheek and put to bed.

Brady is better in every situation. that's it. End of it. Not only is he a better qb, he is a better leader and teammate.

Dude wants the records more than he wants his team to win.

I hope get gets it. Hope he gets like 54 TDs.
I hope next season with a healthy squad, Brady has 54 TDs to tie, and the last play of the last week they have 1st and goal at the 1/2 yard line and Brady calls a run play from the line and ends the game with a rushing TD with whatever of the 1000 running backs that have next season.
