Graham to the Broncos...

Nobody does less with more than the Denver Broncos. A 10-6 team at best this coming season.
I think they will be scary good this next year. Cutler is the real deal, they've surrounded him with a lot of weapons, and they are taking steps to shore up the defense. They need a running back and some run support, but if they fill those two needs they will be a real juggernaut next season, IMO.

With Graham gone to the Broncos and Asante franchised, the rest of

the guys we stand to lose are chopped liver. From here on out things

should be getting better.

the worst we can lose now is TBC or guys to retirement(scary thought)

Dale and Holley mentioned that some one is reporting that Graham's signing bonus will be in the $10 million range.

10 million guaranteed. That includes signing bonus, first year salary, and any reporting/workout bonuses or a buyout clause. I have a feeling it's not going to be a whole lot better than the Patriots offered. Heck, Broncos maybe gave him a 5 million SB, 4 million annual salary, and 1 million in other bonuses. That's not all that extravagant, especially with the new cap figures.

If Cutler is the real deal, Denver is now the Super Bowl favorite with their moves since the end of the season.

Doesn't matter. Cutler has never known how to win or be a champion. He may eventually put up the stats, but he's never thrived under pressure. This will carry over into the NFL.

Graham to the donkeys was almost a fait accompli.

Still, I'm very interested in knowing the exact details of the offers of both DEN and NE. Did the donkeys blow everyone else out of the water, or did the patsies just feel that having one of the most complete TEs in the NFL wasn't worth the bother?

I think the Patriots decided that they didn't want to tie up a ton of cap space at the TE position when they could easily avoid doing so by going with what they've got, which is considerable, even without Graham. Watson and Thomas are nothing to scoff at.

I disagree. From what I saw of Cutler last season, he's got what it takes. I hope you are right, but I also hope the Patriots front office is not ignoring Denver as readily as you are.

I don't get all the Graham-love. I have nothing against him as a person - he always seemed like a decent enough guy, a good locker room guy whom BB named a captain.

But he was a tight end whose main value was as a blocker. As such, I think we made him a very fair offer at $4.4M/4 years. I'm glad he got more than that but I am also glad we didn't pay him more than that.

During his 5 year rookie contract, he played in 63 of a possible 80 games (79%) and started in 49 (61%). Over the past 3 seasons (to leave out his first two "learning curve" years) he missed 8 games with injuries (he missed at least two games every year of his 5 year career) and started only 34 of a possible 48 games (71%). He never had more than 38 catches in a season, and has averaged 24 catches for his career and 22 over the past 3 years. He makes some difficult catches but drops far too many easy ones.

Bon Voyage, Daniel. Your just another guy who played here now. We thank you for your contributions to two of our Super Bowls, but you're not worth crying over.

well, that'll get us a 4 next year. (unless we land someone big)

I think peyton had this knock on him as well. damn I can't believe i just said that he is supposed to be a loser.

Maybe good then scary like last season

Denver's major problem is on the D-line, yet they are loading up at positions where they could afford not to sign a high-profile player. Granted, Graham was an easy pickup since he's from Colorado. Even if the offers from Denver and NE weren't too different, he's going to miss having a reliable QB throwing his way for a while.

Oh well, now he's gone home where I think he wanted to go all along. Will miss seeing him knock heads with Brady, but it was inevitable IMO. Dave Thomas will fill in well I think.

Not to hijack the thread, but Peyton Manning isn't going to the win the Super Bowl every year for the rest of his career since he finally got over the hump. He's as not as old as Elway to retire, he'll have plenty of playoff failures for us to enjoy

Good for him. Het goes home, and gets a nice fat paycheck. But man am I glad we didn't throw that kind of money at him.

pft: Or Graham NOT to the Broncos....

REPORTS OF GRAHAM DEAL NOT TRUE

John Crowe of WSKO radio tells us that he has spoken to Jack Mills, the agent for tight end Daniel Graham, and that Mills says that no deal has been reached between the Broncos and Graham.

Mills will appear on WSKO at 3:30 p.m. EST to address the situation. The spot can be heard right here.

THE SKY IS FALLING!! Wait a minute...

as per Reiss:

No Graham deal
Tight end Daniel Graham has not signed a contract -- or even discussed contract terms -- with the Denver Broncos today, according to Tom Mills of Ascent Sports Management. Graham is represented by Tom and Jack Mills.

An ESPN Radio report indicated Graham had signed a contract with the Broncos. Mills said Graham's visit with the Broncos, in fact, hasn't even taken place yet. Although it was initially scheduled for this morning, the visit will now start later today.
