Did Brady know it was going to be this tough after he took his pay cut?

Because to me it seems as if the team really let him out to dry this year. I get getting younger as it has to be done sooner or later...but do you really do it when your QB maybe only has 3 really good years left? Waste a year of those 3?

When Brady took the cut...do you think he did it to say...i am doing this to put more weapons around me? Or to help the team in general? You think he expected them to go after players like Boldin, Sanders ( what a cheap offer that was ) ect

Because they paid Amendola..but to replace Welker. They didn't go out and get him any extra help...really at all on O or D. Just rookies.

He saved them what...8.5 this year? And they have 10 mill in space as of right now i think?

When he took the pay cut he probably assumed he would have a healthy Gronk and non-incarcerated Hernandez around him.

That plus Amendola and a rookie WR to work in sounds pretty good.

Especially if Vereen doesn't break his wrist on the first play of the season...

Did brady take the pay cut before or after new of the gronk back injury? I assume the team knew before we found out in the papers

No, he didn't know one TE would be in jail and that his top WR, TE, and receiving RB would all be hurt for week 2.

Gosh, we've seen a huge increase in "Belichick should have been psychic" threads lately.

What have you done for me lately? brigade.

Hernandez, gronk, welker or amendola and then a rookie wr. Along with this oline and the running backs it seemed too good. But then it all went downhill after Hernandez. Just remember, its early and we are 2-0.

Brady lives in a mansion with a moat in front of it worth $25 million, he flies on a Gulfstream 5, and has wife that made a million bucks in the time that it took me to write this post, if you really believe Brady’s pay cut is even 1% relevant to anything you’re really reaching for something here, Brady like everyone else in the organization probably did not anticipate that the two tight end offense that the team invested $95 million into a year ago would be non-existent on opening day of 2013, and anyone who did anticipate that when Brady took his pay cut in March or 2013 could you please ask them if I will ever have a 3some with two pats cheerleaders?

They knew gronk was going to have a rough time to start this year. With Amendola you know he is going to miss time..you just don't know when or for how long

I think he took the cut to help keep Welker ... but Wes got a bit greedy ... so it is what it is.

Brady knowingly signed a contract making him one of the worst paid among the top quarterbacks.

Should he have expected the team to do better than dump Welker and count on four rookie receivers? Ya think?

Should Brady have expected that any receiver on the active 53 might actually know the plays and have a clue? Was that not the responsibility of the coaches from Draft Day until now, to train up these kids?

In the end, Brady trusted (and trusts) Kraft and Belichick to do the best to bring super bowls to New England.

The defense has been improving every year for several years. We are 2-0 and very likely to make the playoffs. If the 2012 offense has been so devastated that they cannot hold their own coming into the playoffs, then there will no one to look to but to Belichick who chose the wide receivers and tight ends.

We can whine about the loss of one player in June. Excuses are great. How many catches did Hernandez have last year? Did he even have 60 (the answer is no)? For comparison, Lloyd had over 70 catches. So, sure, I would love to have someone as good Hernandez on the team. The reality is that we didn't ahve him much last year, and we did fine.

The news about Brady's new contract came on the same day as the news about Gronk's infection. If Brady didn't know about the infection or didn't understand the timetable of it, then there would have been no reason to expect that Gronk wouldn't be ready to start the season.

I honestly think they came to him offering a 5 year extension and him and his agent came to the conclusion that although I am Tom Brady and I rule, it is still a good idea to jump at a 5 year contract extension when you’re a 36 year old NFL player.

I don’t think they did, at least not at the time in early March when Brady resigned/restructured; he did not have back surgery till months later.

Well it's tough to say becasue we don't know at what point Gronks back became an issue i guess...did he have problems with it last year or just this offseason ect

Before his extension Brady was scheduled to receive in cash $30 million in 2013 and 2014. He is now scheduled to receive $33 million.

I view that as a pay raise.

It doesn't really matter when they decided he needed surgery. That surgery couldn't be done until his arm was taken care of, which pushed the back surgery to the point where it has knocked him out of regular season games. No infection in his arm and they could have given him a better chance at being back in time for the regular season.

Yes, Brady got a $3M raise to sign a 5-year extension at half the going rate for top quarterbacks. Do you disagree?

I do not question the deal. Both parties freely agreed, and would probably do it again, even now. In any case, it is what it is, a great, great deal for the patriots.

It wasn't really a "cut." He got a $30 million signing bonus, and a 5 year deal with guaranteed money. He really just move dollars around to give a low cap number this year and next.

I am just talking about when they first found out about his back issues...did it bother him last year and we didn't know..or did it only pop up in the offseason
