I agree ... cannot compare the 2 ... Brady's issues were about size and conditioning. Sometimes I wonder if Tebow would be better off triming down his upper a body a bit ... less bulk.

It’s not his bulk that’s the issue, it’s a lack of flexibility in his upper body. Some massage therapy and yoga would do wonders for him, then he’d be in a much better position to improve his mechanics.

Comically wrong ? Tell me, how do you square "win-now" mode with blowing up and rebuilding your entire receiving corps and then grabbing WRs with 2nd and 4th round picks and bringing in a couple of low level FA WRs and some UDFA WRs ?

That isn't "win now" mode. Win now is trading up and grabbing elite level WR talent or bringing in elite WRs through trades or FA.

Bill Belichick is the walking antithesis of "win now" mentality.

Belichick has an always win mentality; he builds the roster in a way that allows him to rebuild positional groups without spending beyond his means or sacrificing having a competitive squad overall. He also pads his bets consistently to protect against failure as much as possible; in 12’ he was rebuilding right defensive end he took Jones to be his player but he protected himself by signing Trevor Scott as a free agent, this season he is rebuilding the X wide receiver he took Dobson to be his player but protected himself by signing Michael Jenkins.

That's Demos' point.

Disagree completely, he was suggesting they are in an offensive rebuild thus there is room to completely waste a roster sPot on Tebow .

no dog in this fight - but that's how I took demos post.

Could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time. Nor the last.

Rebuild the entire receiving core huh? I did not realize that the New England Patriots cut Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski, and Shane Vereen.

Danny Amendola says hi!

I agree with much of what you said, but he's rebuilding pretty much the entire receiving corps, not just the X wide receiver.

That said, "always win" mentality isn't the same as "win now" mode that SB1 keeps talking about. A "win now" mode mortgages the team's future in order to try and "win now". It forgoes things like player development or even worrying about salary cap ramifications in the long term.

cant you do both? The Broncos are all win now with an old PM but they also have worked the draft and have some young uns to work with as well.

The future doesn't necessarily have to be mortgaged in a win now system.

Danny Amendola says hi!

Gronk is a TE and Bill had already taken care of that position, funny enough, through the draft. Edelman and Vereen accounted for 30 catches and 384 yards to begin with. Secondly, Vereen is a RB isn't he ? Edelman is primarily a return guy. Even if you count Edelman as a WR, that's what ? 1 out of 6 returning ?

As for Amendola, touché of sorts. Bringing in Amendola didn't add to the firepower as he's a replacement for Welker. There's definite benefits with the move, to be sure, but that's not the kind of thing I was talking about. A "win now" type team would have kept Welker (or brought in Amendola), BUT, they also would have added to the mix by going after guys like Bowe or Wallace.

Danny Amendola's contract says otherwise:

Danny Amendola - New England Patriots - 2013 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com

3/13/2013: Signed a five-year, $28.5 million contract. The deal contains $10 million guaranteed -- a $6 million signing bonus, Amendola's first-year base salary, and $2 million of his second-year salary. Another $3.3 million is available through incentives. Amendola is eligible for per-game roster bonuses totaling $500,000 annually throughout the contract's life. 2013: $2 million, 2014: $3 million, 2015: $4 million, 2016: $5 million, 2017: $6 million, 2018: Free Agent

I think you can try to do both, but I don't know it works. Manning and Welker are tying up $21.6 mil of the Broncos' cap. Next year it jumps to $25.5 mil. They'd better do it quick because they are going to lose either Decker or DT or both because of cap space.

Even if it can be done, they'd still have some guys on their final 53 roster who aren't expected to make real contributions this year. Guys that are developing and who will be expected to contribute next year.

SB1 disagrees with this. He thinks that the Pats are in "win now" mode and that all 53 guys on the roster must contribute this year. That's shortsighted thinking.

I believe when you hear the approach "win now", it implies you have lost your ability to win tomorrow. It is typified by the Raiders, Redskins , and pre-salary cap 49ers that overspent on free agents, traded draft picks freely, overpaid current players with long-term deals, and largely put themselves into a personnel management nightmare impossible to escape from. The team either succeeds with current configuration or fails. The "win now" approach is usually suggested by high dead money figures from player gambles lost.

BB certainly designs his team to win in the present, and has done so for some time, but he constantly cycles new blood in, generally avoids risky long-term agreements, and seeks long-term commitments from key pieces to insure the team remains competitive well into the future.

Yes, teams like Oakland, Washington and Miami might have signed Wallace or Bowe in our situation. The effect on the 2014 cap would have been ignored.

Anyone who thinks that patriots aren't about winning need to look at the number of wins each year since Kraft bought the team, and especially in the Belichick-Brady era.

Of course the Pats are about winning. The question is how they go about it. What approach they take. I don't think you can have the sustained success that the Pats have had by taking a "win now" approach.

Figure it out, Mr. "Win Now" approach.

Figure out what your mind has deduced from reading the details of Amendola's contract ?

That's funny. If you have something to say, step up to the plate and say it.

Here's the thing.

"Win now" = you have one of the greatest QB's and coaches of all time, so it's a good idea to do whatever it takes to give your team the best chance to win.

"WIN NOW!!" = you have one of the greatest QB's and coaches of all time who are both in the late afternoons of their careers, so it's a really good idea to do whatever it takes to give your team the best chance to win, er, now because things might not be so rosy for this team in a few years.

And if you have a certain QB project who can't throw and can't help your team win today taking roster space, time and money because you want him to "sit and learn" just in case the 0.01% chance he becomes Steve Young actually materializes... that is not quite what I call giving your team the best chance to win now.

Hence, in 2013 the Patriots should be considered a WIN NOW team. Fact.

With that said, I agree that the term "Win now" could be interpreted as trying to win today at the expense of the future. That may be true for some teams, but that is not true for this team and that is not what I meant. At all.

Why should I?

You're the expert on all things all Patriots.
