Re: Backup QB Situation

While Mallett wasn't great, he really didn't have a chance to settle into a rhythm before he was hurt. Tebow should be cut. He isn't good and they have to design plays for him that would not otherwise be included in our playbook. He is a wasted roster spot. If they want a third QB they should find a pocket passer similar to Brady & Mallett.

Pretty sure Bill nor McDaniels don't see this as a negative. Nor have I ever seen this as a negative with Tebow. That's actually the point.

I don't know why we signed Tebow but one thing I am 100% certain of is this: they didn't bring in Tebow to run TB's offense.

Edit: Now that I think of it, he could have simply been brought in to help our D prep against other spread option offenses out there...

31 pages already? You guys love talking some Tebow. And it ain't really the new members either. Good discussion for the most part, but it's really 31 pages of points that have been made before on both sides thousands of times. That's really all it's going to be... regurgitations of the same points.

Enjoy thread. I have nothing to add that I haven't said before.

Sorry I've been off site most of the offseason. Been slacking off. They'll double now that I'm back

I would argue that it's the first two more than anything else but you are right. And BB and Brady don't have a lot of years left so it's more important than ever that they do everything they can to win now. We don't know what the future will bring after that.

But I'm saying this team this century has never been in the business of just signing a player simply to "learn and develop", they would rather get someone who could help the team win TODAY... And perhaps Tebow can do the latter at some position. We shall see in the coming weeks.

Tom Brady QB #4 circa 2000 says hello

Might want to drop this line of thought until you understand how teams build positional depth.

I just checked in and I'm not reading all these pages. My appetite is apparently weak. Let me know if there's something I should know.

He does have the “will”, he may have the “chops”, but he does NOT have the tools. An NFL quarterback must have the mental capacity to move quickly thru reads, make intelligent decisions, and have the ability to envision the direction of a play under extreme pressure. Tebow does not have that, and it is not something that can be fixed in my opinion.

Agreed. This is the biggest problem with Tebow, I think: he's stupid. He doesn't have the mental agility to digest the complexity of the Patriots playbook and to make the necessary quick, smart decisions. THAT can never be fixed, no matter how much certain people may want it.

Damned if Josh wouldn't have figured that out in the many hours he spent with Tebow prior to moving up in the draft to take him in the first round.

Then again, there have been many coaches/analysts who have gone on record as saying that Tebow possesses a very good Football IQ.

I am just curious. Do you remember who said this and when?

The year 2000 was last century BTW. Brady is a great example of exactly why the Patriots should be bringing in a developmental QB instead of wasting time with this circus sideshow.

Ummm, no. The year 2000 was the start of the 21st century. The 20th century ended on Dec. 31st, 1999 at the stroke of midnight.

Thanks for playing though.

Josh, Marc Trestman, and John Gruden come immediately to mind.
Josh is his coach (what's he going to say?), Gruden loves everybody and if Trestman was in love with him why did he let him clear waivers when his starter is a wuss like Cutler?

Remember the 2 rules of defending Tebow:

1. Anything that has ever been said positive about him can and should be used as a way to show how _______ he is. Typical terms might be talented, smart, hard worker, great guy, etc.

2. Anytime Tebow does not perform well it is ok because the coaches "expected him to not do well".

See, once you learn the rule of Tim Tebow homerism it is much easier to communicate with the Tim Tebow homers.

Yeah, sure pal, whatever you say. Wallow in your own ignorance.

Oh, please. Tim Tebow speaks and the only thing that comes to mind is Forrest Gump. "Football IQ", for a quarterback is not enough. You HAVE to be an intelligent, nimble-minded person to play this particular position. Tim is learning-disabled. This is not a person who will ever rise above his instincts in playing a position that requires a perfectionist. Tom Brady is like watching a surgeon at work; Tim Tebow is like watching a butcher. He just doesn't have the mental tools. You can see it when plays break down and he reverts to schoolyard ball, running backwards that one occasion for what, 20 yards? It's painful to watch.

Yep. This is how some of the Pro Tebow posters come across. No matter what you tell them or show them or they see, it will never bring them to reality.

It it ever comes to someone defending a player by pointing out all the nice things that have been said about that player - you are probably talking about a bad player.

I'm still hopeful the Pats will cut this mechanically defective and non reading defense train wreck. The Pats whacked Brian Hoyer and he looked like Montana compared to Timmy.
